Check this out: I'm 162 this morning. That's 4 lbs in 11 days. I'm sore from working out, but other than that, I feel awesome. I expect that it'll be a few days before I lose another lb., but who knows? Maybe if I keep this up, I can still reach my goal by mid-June.

Yesterday, I went for a 30 minute walk, and the day before, I did 20 minutes of cardio blast and a structured Chest & Back workout - I'm beginning to increase my weights for my workouts now. I'm on my 3rd round of structured workouts (I've been working out for about 2 1/2 weeks).

------------------

So, here's yesterday:

2 eggs (olive oil spray) / strawberries / pineapple

Small portion of Bok Choy & Chicken / Big Fuji apple

Chicken with about 1/3 C. Rice & 1/3 Cup Beans (threw in some olive oil cuz I don't believe that restricting fat too much is really that good for you).

A Redbridge

Salmon with 1/4 Cup Brown Rice & some baked eggplant

Another cup of strawberries & about 1/3 cup of baked banana chips

-------------------

I'll try not to post all the time ... I'm just so stoked !

So, have great days,

k

well I lost 5 lb. in the last week since starting the gluten free diet... went from 203 down to 197... I was on weight watchers before and having a really hard time losing and I haven't been even paying attention to calories anymore... just eating when I'm hungry... who knew that gluten was what stopped me from losing weight! I've even been snacking on those sesame seed candies practically non stop!

HI I am new to this site and just saw this thread, I know this is rather old but if you are still doing the weight loss thread I would love to sign up. I don't get a chance to get on the computer much but I would love a place to go to when I do get on. I am allergic to wheat, soy, eggs, nuts, tree nuts, and all citrus, and my son is allergic to milk. I just found all of this out about 6 months ago when I kept breaking out in hives all over my body and I felt like crud all of the time. So I have about 25 lbs to loose, I have been trying to loose them for about 5 years since my son was born. I am trying to count calories since nothing else seems to work. I have been stuck at this same weight of 148 to 151 forever and I can't seem to get below the 145 mark. I just joined a gym and I am doing burst training and weights. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Way to go Aleshia and Kat! Your progress is great!

I'm trying to eat a lot less calories for now. I was told to limit my exercising until I can get my iron back up. So...I quit karate for now. :( I did jog Monday - I'm so afriad to stop completely.

It's bummed me out but at least I know why I would feel so lousy after a couple days of really good exercising and have to quit. Hopefully within a couple weeks I'll be able to get back into my routine.

Keep it up ladies!

Well, I have been off the steroid cream for 2 weeks and really don't see a lot of change yet. My stomach pain has subsided. That is good :D and I lost a whole whopping 2 pounds  I have noticed a huge correlation between the amount of stress I am having and my weight even though my eating doesn't really change. so today I will try to cut out the chips (easier said than done- ). I can't figure out if I should go back to protein shakes and less real food, or keep having the eggs and salad thing. I am not a vegetarian, I am just trying to cut the calories. Since I am a chip fan, I have to cut somewhere... probably should have been the chips B)

Meals yesterday look about the same:

No am workout- it was snowing in CO.

7:30- 6 dates and 1 t. peanut butter- handful of sweet potato chips

10:30- Brunch- 2 eggwhite and veggie omelet, handful of chips and 6 dates

2:00- 6 dates and peanut butter- chips

run 5 miles

6:00- taco salad- with chicken- no cheese.

I had lost one more pound, but then went back up one. I am off to swim and then bike before work.

hightop girl,

I'm just wondering if you weigh yourself the same time every day? I know my weight fluctuates about 3 lbs each day so I just take what my morning weight says. It's supposed to be more consistent after not eating over night. Forgive me if this was mentioned before, I'm not sure.

Guest hightop girl

I do weigh at the same time each day. It is pretty odd, but I am trying to not get too anxious about it.

I'm glad your not getting anxious about it. :)

You do get a lot of exercise compared to most people. I wonder about your intake of calories too like others have mentioned. I found something online about the amount of calories you should be taking in compared to your exercise regimen. It's at Open Original Shared Link. I'm sure there are sites that are much better, but something you might like to check out. :)

thanks. a lb. of it was back again this morning... maybe since I have found more carb substitutes hehe :)

sorry you can't exercise... I would love to have a prescription from my dr. telling me to not exercise! must be hard when you actually want to though. and I am feeling better lately and actually enjoy going for a walk now where before it was a huge chore!

Oh gosh, I know I try to eat only half the carbs or less because they are so packed in a normal size portion of gluten free food!

I wouldn't mind not exercising, but I will almost certainly gain weight until I can again. I did do pretty well cutting the calories yesterday, so maybe that will compensate (hopefully... )

Good for you, glad your feeling better lately. It's got to be nice to actually enjoy exercising! ;)

I finally lost the last 2 pounds of the 5 I gained from the steroid cream, but I probably blew it today. I started out with my normal morning snack then brunch. Then I had a 54 mile bike and 5 mile run to do. I am still trying to figure out what I am going to fuel with in the 1/2 ironman, so I bought a snickers bar. I just figure if I am going to actually eat 250 calories, I out to like it. So I ate that on the ride, then had some dates and potato chips right before the run. Then I got 2 soft fish tacos from the Mexican restaurant I can trust. I had both of them and a salad + guacamole and a few tortilla chips for dinner. I am pretty stuffed. I would normally only have one of the tacos. I did get rid of the extra tortilla they wrap them in. It is probably too much and my weight will be back up, but boy did it taste good and it is more protein than usual! :P

Oh well, back on the low cal bandwagon tomorrow.

I am glad to see that you all are having success.

Guest hightop girl

Well, as predicted, I am back up 2 pounds. I am sure it is a lot of water retention. I am really sore and craved salt yesterday.

UR Groovey_ How is it going?

Well, after a weekend of gluttony, I was up 3 lbs on the scale this morning. This was predictable. I went on a salt binge. Tortilla chips, cheese, salami ... when I break the rules, I really go for it ! I can feel the puffiness in my fingers. The cool thing is that the 3 extra lbs brought me to 165 instead of 170. So, I'm jumping back on today. I'm not disturbed ... it was semi-intentional. I decided to take the weekend off (I mean, really, how much real, actual weight in fat can you gain in 2 days?).

Like Liz said before, though, you may need the salt because of your exercise. Though, I would imagine, it must be difficult to find the balance between not enough & too much. Is low carb a good idea for you? I would imagine that a 54 mile bike ride & 5 mile run probably depletes your glycogen stores. I would think you would be able to take in quite a bit of carbohydrate with that level of activity . (?) Although, I'm pretty sure that potato chips are not the most desirable carbohydrate around ;)

I'll let you guys know how my recovery goes. I expect that I'll be 160 by next Monday, because I'm really going to get back on it.

Take care all,

k

I'm still trying to hang in here. I've been doing great with the exercise - not as much as hightop girl, but still doing between 30 and 75 minutes of working out almost every day. And I've been good about not eating too many carbs and not much sugar. But yesterday ate way too much good, healthy food - black bean salsa with Fritos (okay, maybe those aren't healthy), Middle Eastern kebobs, saffron rice, salad... yummmmmm! No more family parties for a while! I've lost 1-1/2 pounds since my highest weight, but still have a goal to lose 26.5 more pounds. I'm a bit disgusted that it's that much. I started this when I only had 19 to go and those extra pounds seemed to come from nowhere. Oh well, just have to keep going.

Guest hightop girl

I am finally down 3 pounds this morning  I hope I don't screw it up celebrating! ;) I think you all are doing a good job getting exercise in. It is hard to start again. Everytime I stop and then start again, I swear I won't do that again. Getting back in shape is a lot of work and painful. After a few weeks, the soreness wears off, and the habit is formed again, and I enjoy it. I hope that is the point most of you are getting to...

I want to shed about 25 lbs. but it seems much harder for me after going gluten free....which makes no sense to me at all.I'm eating much more healthier now.I lived on breads, pastas, junk etc....prio to my dx.I was so sure that being gluten free was going to help me lose weight.I walk on my treadmill 30 mins a day.I have only lost 5-6 lbs so far...in a month.I guess I need to be patient and also watch my salt. I'll be giving it my best shot.

Hello everyone

I'm taking a break from school work, I have been really bad about posting I'm sorry for that. I have been doing horrible on my diet, last week I ate a Subway sandwhich full on and the next day I had Quisadilla's which involves flour, everything was good I felt ok ya a little tired but not too bad, only one episode in the bathroom and bam on Friday morning I noticed some little bumps popping up on my face under my lower lip, which spread to my upper lip around the corner of my mouth and up my nose, then spread to my cheek just a couple of spots close together and then some more on the other side of my face, a spot of two on my wrist and a little train on my pinky finger all blistery, itchy. I posted something on the DH thread about my visit to the Dermatologist office. But I am holding myself accountable for what I ate, it was good when I had it, but the results from have not been too fun.

I have been eating better since last week so here are my meals

Hi Liz,

You just hang in there. It may seem like a lot, but you can do it. If you just lost 5 lbs, you'd be motivated and on your way. You can do that in a couple/few weeks. I know you want to lose all 26.5 lbs, but let's be honest ... when was the last time you actually reached 150 lbs? I know for me, it was maybe 10 years ago. I'm trying to concentrate on small goals, one at a time. It seems to be working out well for me. If I think about the ultimate goal, I get frustrated, but when I consider that I've lost 5 lbs in the last few weeks, I feel good about what I've accomplished to this point.

I hear ya ! I'm trying to continue working out more regularly so I don't have to face the soreness and shock of starting over again & again. Congrats on the 3 lbs !

Hi Donna,

Sorry 'bout the rash & such. Subway ... I miss subway. Those $5 Footlong commercials are killin' me !

----------------------------

So, anyhoo, I took a few days off and ate what I wanted to. I'm 162, so it looks like I didn't blow it too bad. I'm back on now. I'm going to see my sister & her fam-damily Saturday - perfect - they put in a new pool. Maybe I'll just wear my surf shorts !

Just popped in to let you guys know where I'm at & say hi !

Take care,

Well I was out of town for 3 days. I had a great time at gluten free restaurants, but I am sure i got glutened once while gone. I am pretty bloated tonight, so I am going to try to hold off on weighing for a couple of days. I would have thought I would be ok... ;)

On Thursday I rode my bike 40 min, ran 4 miles before my flight, but then had a late night dinner at a gluten free fish house (excellent but more calories than I usually have in a couple of days) Friday I ran 6 miles then swam 2000 meters. I had my normal morning meals, but then went to a gluten free pizza place. :D Then I am pretty sure the late dinner salad at Chipotle had something that did not work for me (I was too hungry to worry about whether it was CC'd). Yesterday I ran 10 miles and swam a little. Then went to a gluten free Peruvian restaurant. I was pretty excited about the great food so probably overdid it, but it was my mother's day treat. :P Today we flew home, so I had some scrambled eggs, potatoes and ham in the airport. I didn't even eat 1/2, but I did not feel good after I ate the little I did eat, then had a salad, my normal dates and chips (I was getting anxious about our plane ever leaving). When we got home I ran 5 miles, had a salad, a few chips and one bite of a snickers bar. It is a bit much for me. I guess I will be starting all over again tomorrow. :(

I hope you all did better than me over the weekend!

Hello all

I have been pretty good with eating this week, ok I know it is only Tuesday but I have been good with my diet. Hi,

I'm just maintaining. I haven't been able to get back the level of motivation that I had. Where did it go? I need it back. I'm off - to go figure out where I put it. I think I might know where it is ... it could be at the gym. I haven't looked for it there yet. It's gotta be somewhere.

I sure wish those sweaty, loud guys working on the addition next door would go away. They're on the roof ... they have been, for months. I'm really rather over it <_< . It was really fascinating at first ... watching a 1200 square foot house turn into the colosseum (sp?), but now, it's just old.

Oh yeah, I gotta go find that motivation thing  .

Take care,

Well I finally got the courage to get on the scales after having all that great gluten free food in Portland. Whew! I am exactly what I was when I left -- even after the one gluten incident.

So I am continuing with:

dates and peanut butter and a few chips ( I just totally crave them right now) at about 7:30 am

2 egg whites and veggie omelet at about 9:30

dates and a few chips

dates peanut butter and a few chips at noon

and a salad for dinner.

I am trying to convince myself that not gaining right now is a victory.

Motivation to work out is a funny thing. I don't have much trouble anymore but it is just a part of the day. Somehow food is more of an issue. So on the motivation end... maybe if you set a little goal of 3 times per week for 3 weeks and you can buy a new workout tshirt or shorts, or go to a movie, it might help. I remember when I first started running I would set goals like a new pair of shorts when I can run 3 miles without walking.

Guest hightop girl

I am about to give up. I am back up 3 pounds. We did eat out last night. We had a cheese plate at a happy hour, and cheese sometimes seems to do this, and then went to a mexican restaurant. It was probably way too much sodium in one day, but it is frustrating none the less. Otherwise, my meals were the same. I did only work out once yesterday, but it was an 8 mile run, so I don't know what the problem could be. I hope you all are doing better than me.

Jestgar Rising Star

Hi all

I haven't posted in a while, but I've been dealing with other things.

For reasons not related to weight, I'm now grain, starch and sugar free (except for the occasional cheat.) Since I was having a lot of bloating I decided to to weigh myself after two weeks on the new regime and start counting from there. So 1 week into it, I'm down two pounds.

Have not been able to start working out in earnest 'cause I'm way too anemic and my heart can't take the extra stress. I have added a walk at the end of the day and I'll try to add small things throughout the day. Hopefully I'll get this anemia resolved over the next few months so I can at least start doing stuff in my garden.

I had a very rough month after diagnosis. No exaggeration, lost so much inflammatory weight, I looked like a bag of bones, underneath i had been literally starving to death. I did start feeling noticeably better after a month of very strict control of my kitchen and home. What are you eating for breakfast and lunch? I ignored my doc and ate oats, yes they were gluten free, but some brands are at the higher end of gluten free. Lots of celics can eat Bob's Red Mill gluten-free oats, but not me. I can now eat them, but they have to be grown and processed according to the "purity protocol" methods. I mail order them, Montana Gluten-Free brand. A food and symptoms and activities log can be helpful in tracking down issues. You might be totally aware, but I have to mention about the risk of airborne gluten. As the doc that diagnosed me warned . . Remember eyes, ears, nose, and mouth all lead to your stomach and intestines.  Are you getting any cross contamination? Airborne gluten? Any pets eating gluten (they eat it, lick themselves, you pet them...)? Any house remodeling? We live in an older home, always fixing something. I've gotten glutened from the dust from cutting into plaster walls, possibly also plywood (glues). The suggestions by many here on vitamin supplements also really helped me. I had some lingering allergies and asthma, which are now 99% gone. I was taking Albuterol inhaler every hour just to breathe, but thiamine in form of benfotiamine kicked that down to 1-2 times a day within a few days of starting it. Also, since cutting out inflammatory seed oils (canola, sunflower, grapeseed, etc) and cooking with real olive oil, avocado oil, ghee, and coconut oil, I have noticed even greater improvement overall and haven't used the inhaler in months! It takes time to weed out everything in your life that contains gluten, and it takes awhile to heal and rebuild your health. At first it's mentally exhausting, overwhelming, even obsessive, but it gets better and second nature.

Hi,  I care for my seven year old daughter with Celiac. After watching her for months, I have figured out that she has problem with two kinds of fats- animal fat and cooking oils. It basically makes her intestine sore enough that she feels spasms when she is upset. It only happens on days when she has eaten more fat than her usual every day diet. (Her usual diet has chia seeds, flaxseeds, and avocado/ pumpkin seeds for fat and an occasional chicken breast.) I stopped using cooking oils last year, and when I reintroduced eggs and dairy, both of which I had held off for a few months thinking it was an issue of the protein like some Celiac patients habe mentioned to be the case, she has reacted in the same fashion as she does with excess fats. So now I wonder if her reaction to dairy and eggs is not really because of protein but fat.   I don't really have a question, just wondering if anyone finds this familiar and if it gets better with time.  Thank you.

Hello, My name is Chanda and you are not the only one that gose through the same things. I have found that what's easiest for me is finding a few meals each week that last. I have such severe reactions to gluten that it shuts my entire body down. I struggle everyday with i can't eat enough it feels like, when I eat more I lose more weight. Make sure that you look at medication, vitamins and shampoo and conditioner also. They have different things that are less expensive at Walmart.

Thank you so much! I saw some tips around the forum to make a food diary and now that I know that the community also struggles with corn, egg and soy, the puzzle pieces came together! Just yesterday I tried eating eggs and yes, he’s guilty and charged. Those there are my 3 combo nausea troublemakers. I’m going to adjust my diet ☺️ Also thank you for the information about MCAS! I’m from South America and little it’s talked about it in here. It’s honestly such a game changer now for treatment and recovery. I know I’m free from SIBO and Candida since I’ve been tested for it, but I’m still going to make a endoscopy to test for H. Pylori and Eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Thank you again!! Have a blessed weekend 🤍

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.
