Yes, I love your nursery picture, too! How sweat!

Since my doctor's appointment yesterday there are some exciting news. So, she checked me, right? First she was like 'wow, you're almost completely effaced, I can feel the baby's head down there.' I was so shocked, I forgot to ask about the percentage, so I met her again outside on the floor. And I was like 'how much percentage do you think, I'm effaced?' She's like 'Hm, a good 80%'... Yippiieee!... However, we still could have them the same day, just cause I'm 80% effaced, doesn't mean, I'm going sooner. It might be a sign though  .

Guhlia Rising Star

Last time I was 80% effaced for a week or two and nothing happened. Keep in mind though that I was VERY sick with Celiac at that point. I don't think my body was functioning properly. I'm hoping that this time things move along quicker and easier. I am really committed to a natural child birth. That will set this pregnancy apart from the last one and make Annika a first baby as well as Tori. Tori was my first child, hopefully this will be my first real birth. :) I'm so excited! I'm sure that you, Stef, will move along much quicker than I did last time. Especially since you're healthy and in good shape. I think you're going to go pretty soon. Maybe next week??? Just hang in there.

Thanks about the nursery picture. :) It took me almost a month to find a bedding set that matches blue carpet. I really like it. The room is so tiny that furniture hardly fits in it, but I think it looks nice. I've been working on the nursery a little bit every day and we are definitely ready for the baby to come. All I have to do yet is rewash the sheets since they've been on the mattress for a week now. I think I'll probably try to do that once I start going into labor since the first hours will be spent here at home. I managed to find a tall book case for her room for under $100 that doesn't look cheesy and I got a really nice glider now too. The glider doesn't match AT ALL, it's this lime green minky material, but it is SO comfortable. I know I'm going to just love it for nursing. I have one of the drapes over it right now since I accidentally screwed up and got three drapes. It doesn't look too bad. I don't really care because its so comfortable. Wow, that turned into a really long ramble. Can you tell I'm excited???

Stef, are you planning on nursing or formula? If you're uncomfortable answering that, just forget I said anything. :)

I like the nursery photo too. Sounds like everything is ready except Annika. :D

She'll be along shortly :D

I'm just so excited for both of you ladies!

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

Oh yes, I'm so excited, it ain't funny no more! I could jump up and down from excitement  . Well, I've "only" been cleaning up the nursery so far. Since I got so much things at the baby shower, only half of it fit into my car. The other half is still at my mother-in-laws house near Bellefonte, which is over an hour for us and it's mostly furniture. They said, they will bring it down to our house with my husbands fixed truck (they were planning on putting it onto the truck), which we brought to them July 22nd (the day of the shower) and haven't gotten it back yet. So I really couldn't do much with the furniture in that room, since I don't have it yet. There's a couch in there now and a shelf. And the shelf was a book shelf in my old martial arts school. I couldn't take this shelf with us, when we moved the school into a new location, so now it's in Lukas's room. I filled it up with necessary items, but I still want to do it better. So I'm working on needle canvas boxes/cubes right now, that will have the color of the nursery and where I can put stuff in. On the four sides of those cubes will be the letters for Lukas and then with asian signs as well (like underneath or beside our normal writing), which is spelled "Lu"-"Ka"-"Su" in japanese syllabels. I still have to look up the writing though... lol. That will be fuuun! And the good part is, when I'm in the hospital for a few days, I can also spend the time with the needle canvas and do the rest, that still needs done. Then the other thing I did was, painting some wooden hearts of different sizes in green and I still want to put white baby foot prints on and finish them with a clear lack. Then on the three bigest hearts there will be a picture of each one of us, Brock (my husband), Lukas and myself. And then I will paint another wooden plack green and write "The family that kicks together, sticks together" on it. Then I already painted the letters for Lukas in different colors and glued some tiny little green hearts onto them. Then I glued some ribbon onto them and now I can attach the letters to some nails. So the letters, the hearts and the plaque all will hang on the wall there where the crib is :D . I'm very satisfied with what I've done already, even though it isn't much yet  .

Stef--your wall hanging sounds great! :)

Are you sure you're going to be in a few days. Usually VB is sent home the same day or next day. I was in 3 days with my daughter (firstborn) after c-section and only 2 for the other c-sections. I wanted to stay 3 with my last but they said since I was up and around I was being discharged......the place wasn't packed either so that wasn't a reason.

Sounds like you have a creative bent. I'm sure that will look real nice.....if you want to put up a picture at some point I wouldn't mind seeing it when it's done.

Hope the truck arrives real soon! :o That's been almost a month already.

Guhlia Rising Star

Sounds really neat, Stef! I can tell you're getting more and more excited. The last week or two are the hardest because you get so excited to meet the baby.

I'm hoping that ours waits another few days at least. Tomorrow is my b-day and I really don't want her to have to share her birthday with me. Plus, I have a cold and I'd really like to be healthier to give birth. Perhaps we'll go next week, but I'm not counting on it. The longer this pregnancy goes, the longer I feel like its going to go. I'm so scared I'm going to go past my due date by weeks again. Ugh... It'll all be worth it in the long run though. :)

What do they do if you're nursing? Make you stay there so you can nurse every few hours without a room or bed??? I was thinking about that the other day and it got me freaked out. Though, it would be nice to be able to leave to get food.

For those of you who read my rant on the nesting thread... I have some very good news! Not only did my husband not forget my birthday, he's out shopping right now with my daughter!!! I've had the whole evening to myself (rarely happens). I'm sick, so I really needed this break. It feels so good to be able to do laundry without having a little princess tripping me underfoot. :) I'm spending my lovely evening alone cleaning and it feels so good!!! I can't believe he actually remembered! Last year he didn't even remember to wish me a happy birthday. I haven't gotten a gift from him in years! This is really, truly going to be a special birthday. :) Now if only I could convince him to stay with me at the races tomorrow and watch Tori so I could actually enjoy the evening... Hmmm... :) LOL

They'll make sure you see a lactation consultant before you're discharged. My hubby brought food in for me for the last one. They wouldn't let me eat much but I knew what my body could handle as I'd done it 2 times prior.

I never left my room, it's just that I was up and around the room. With my last one I had my section and was wheeled right back to my room with the baby and they did the clean up/measurements/bath etc. in the room. Baby never left the room unless I was with him and that was only for the circ. Everything else was taken care of in the room, including the footprints.

Guhlia Rising Star

Don't they keep the baby longer than the mother if the mother is discharged the same day? I thought the baby had to stay overnight at least. Maybe I'm very wrong.

Baby goes with mother if there are no problems. Whether you stay over night depends on what time you get there. When I had my first one the was one woman that went home the evening of the day she came in. I think I've heard of people going home in a couple hours but don't quote me on that. That is probably more at the mothers request though......the doctor still has to ok the release.

Angie and Steff too,

Don't mean to interupt an ongoing discussion, but..

You two need to let someone on this site know about your delieveries. We are way too impatient to wait until you and Lucas and Annika get home.

Maye someone can call someone.

We are anxiously awaiting.

Guhlia Rising Star

I'll send a text out to Amanda if that's okay with her. I know that I can use my cell phone in the hospital waiting room. I'll probably be living in there when I'm not with Annika. :) Hopefully I'll have a successful VBAC and they'll let me go relatively quickly. Staying in the hospital is NOT going to be much fun with having to make my own meals and such.

I read the hospital site and they said that an 8 hour stay is mandatory and likely a maternity stay will last a minimum of 24 hours. That sounds good to me, I mean the 24 hours bit. :) Actually, 8 hours sounds good to me, but I'm not going to go through the whole deal of trying to get special permission for that. Just not worth it. I could probably use the sleep in the hospital anyway.

A decent nights sleep would definately be useful. How old is Tori? Is she excited?

stef-the-kicking-cuty Enthusiast

I would definitely like to call somebody on here. But I need somebody that's ok with that  . BTW, I can have my cell phone switched on in the hospital. When I was in there for three days in week 28, they said, I could always leave it on.

I'll pm you my number. We are on the West Coast.

Tori is 3-1/2. She's very excited. She can't wait until she can hold the baby. She's been getting more and more interested in other people's babies ever since we got pregnant. She's going to be a wonderful big sister.

Guhlia Rising Star

Just a quick update... I'm still hanging around... Last night I began to get VERY uncomfortable and I'm now having some contractions that are very different from the BH ones I've been experiencing. I doubt that I'll be lucky enough to go into labor soon though. The doctor said that since I never went into labor naturally last time that it would be treating this like a first pregnancy. Ugh... I hope that doesn't mean I go late again. I was two weeks late with Tori.

I'm feeling slightly better this morning and no contractions yet today, but something is definitely different. I can't pinpoint what though. At least I'm not nauseous anymore like last night.

Oh my gosh, Angie!!! Sounds like something's brewing :D

I'll be thinking about you and waiting for news :)

I agree with Patti. Don't forget, you're into your due month (two weeks prior to two weeks after EDD).

Here's a link to the baby photo gallery for whenever little Annika decides to show herself.

Her picture should be posted within hours of her birth. Hopefully there won't be two Annika's on the same day. LOL I was afraid I'd forget to post the link, so I figured I'd better post it now while I'm thinking about it.

My coworkers nephew was born there last week. :)

Hi Jane: You may want to try the D3 I now take. I have reactions to fillers and many additives. Sports Research, it is based in the USA and I have had no bad reactions with this brand. The D3 does have coconut oil but it is non GMO, it is Gluten free, Soy free, Soybean free and Safflower oil free.  I have a cupboard full of supplements that did not agree with me -  I just keep trying and have finally settled on Sports Research. I take NAKA Women's Multi full spectrum, and have not felt sick after taking 2 capsules per day -  it is a Canadian company. I buy both from Amazon. I wish you well in your searching, I know how discouraging it all is. Florence.

highly unlikely  NOTHING and I mean NOTHING else has ever caused me these kinds of symptoms I have no problem with dates, they are a large part of my diet In fact, I eat a very high fiber, very high vegetable and bean diet and have for many years now. It's considered a whole foods plant based or plant forward diet (I do now eat some lean ground turkey but not much) I was off dairy for years but recently had to add back plain yogurt to meet calcium needs that I am not allowed to get from supplements (I have not had any problem with the yogurt)   I eat almost no processed foods. I don't eat out. almost everything I eat, I cook myself I am going to keep a food diary but to be honest, I already know that it's wheat products and also barley that are the problem, which is why I gradually stopped eating and buying them. When I was eating them, like back in early 2024, when I was in the middle of moving and ate out (always had bread or toast or rolls or a sub or pizza) I felt terrible but at that time was so busy and exhausted that I never stopped to think it was the food. Once I was in my new place, I continued to have bread from time to time and had such horrible joint pain that I was preparing for 2 total knee replacements as well as one hip! The surgery could not go forward as I was (and still am) actively losing calcium from my bones. That problem has yet to be properly diagnosed and treated   anyway over time I realized that I felt better when I stopped eating bread. Back at least 3 yrs ago I noticed that regular pasta made me sick so I switched to brown rice pasta and even though it costs a lot more, I really like it.   so gradually I just stopped buying and eating foods with gluten. I stopped getting raisin bran when I was constipated because it made me bloated and it didn't help the constipation any more (used to be a sure bet that it would in the past)   I made cookies and brownies using beans and rolled oats and dates and tahini and I LOVE them and have zero issues eating those I eat 1 or more cans of beans per day easily can eat a pound of broccoli - no problem! Brussels sprouts the same thing.   so yeh it's bread and related foods that are clearly the problem  there is zero doubt in my mind

Thank you for your post, @nanny marley It is interesting what you say about 'It's OK not to sleep'. Worrying about sleeping only makes it much harder to sleep.  One of my relatives is an insomniac and I am sure that is part of the problem.  Whereas I once had a neighbour who, if she couldn't sleep, would simply get up again, make a cup of tea, read, do a sudoku or some other small task, and then go back to bed when she felt sleepy again.  I can't think it did her any harm - she lived  well into her nineties. Last week I decided to try a Floradix Magnesium supplement which seems to be helping me to sleep better.  It is a liquid magnesium supplement, so easy to take.  It is gluten free (unlike the Floradix iron supplement).  Might be worth a try.

It could be a fructan intolerance? How do you do with dates?  https://www.dietvsdisease.org/sorry-your-gluten-sensitivity-is-actually-a-fructan-intolerance/

Thank’s for addressing the issue of mushrooms.  I was under the impression that only wild mushrooms were gluten-free.  Have been avoiding cultivated mushrooms for years. Also, the issue of smoked food was informative.  In France last year, where there is hardly any prepared take-out food that is gluten-free, I tried smoked chicken.  Major mistake!
