Peanut Butter

I bought organic, gluten-free peanut butter at Whole Foods. It states on the label to refrigerate after opening. I have never refrigerated peanut butter before.

It is rock hard and not easy to use after it has been in the refrigerator.

Would it be OK not to refrigerate?

I have to say I have never seen a Peanut Butter jar that says fridge after opening either, but I would follow the instructions. Just in case. The way I see it, why run the risk of getting sick or ruining a a jar of PB.

Coming from Peanut Country....... Peanut Oil does not have a long shelf life and it will go rancid fairly quickly. If you bought organic peanut butter, it may not have any preservatives in it and, thus, it is recommended that it be refrigerated.

I always refrigerate my opened jars of peanut butter.

Good to know Thanks Momma Goose!

All natural peanut butters (and nut butters) are in the fridge... Stuff with hydrogenated what-nots have shelf life.

I keep my PB in the fridge, but I microwave for 10 seconds before using. It softens it a bit.

I keep my organic peanut butter in the fridge. As long as you mix the oil well before using it and putting it in the fridge, it'll stay soft and usable.

Dear newceliac,

This is a problem many people have. Stirring it up well helps. However, after a while, it does get hard. I have a Magic Bullet, and it helps fix that issue. Heating it helps as well. Someone else suggested I store it upside down in the fridge so the oil goes to the bottom and it is easier to stir up. Although it is not organic, Jif is gluten-free.

Sincerely,

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
