Im thinking of trying one of the four vegan gluten free breads. The kinds are white rice bread,

whole grain brown rice bread, multi grain bread and fruit and seed medley bread. The fruit and seed one sounds great with some jelly on it. Im also looking for recommendations if anyone has one for the other breads that are more of a sandwich flavor. Thanks so much :)

My daughter loves the one with the fruit and seeds in it. The only problem I have is that the slices tend to stick together. I am lucky to get 1/2 of the loaf in intact slices.

What I do is thaw it out just enough to get as many slices apart as I can, then I put them in 2 slice packets in sandwich bags, back into the same bag it came out of and refreeze it.

Thanks Julie :) Does it do it with all kinds or just the fruit sticking together? I dont mind partially thawing and refreezing though. I miss stollen bread so this sounds like a great alternative.

I'm sorry--I don't like ANY of them. No matter what I do (nuke, toast, bake), they crumble as soon as I try to get them out of the package. The taste isn't bad, but the texture is awful--coarse, dry, and crumbly. They also gave me stomach-aches, and I always felt like I'd swallowed a brick after one slice. :(

I finally decided that, even though there are other reasonably acceptable premade breads out there, homemade is SO much better, it's worth missing an hour or two of sleep to make them occasionally.

I have to agree with Fiddle-faddle. I do not care for any of their breads. Much to heavy and dense, IMO. It is nice that they are easy to find in most health food stores around me, but I really do not like the flavor and texture.

Their brown rice flour tortillas, however, are delicious.

I hope you find a variety of bread that works for you.

They have more than these four. I happen to have China black rice & rice pecan bread in my fridge right now. I see more types on their web site.

I haven't had the crumbling problem, myself. I buy them frozen, but then put them in the regular section of the fridge. I haven't noticed them going stale. I don't find the need to toast, nuke, etc., just eat as is. Could this be why mine don't fall apart?

Anyway, obviously taste is a personal thing. But I haven't found a homemade vegan recipe that I like any better. Not that I've searched that hard :lol: I don't eat that much bread. I'm more inclined to use the brown rice tortillas to make wraps -- they can hold more.

I don't mind the red rice, black rice and pecan kind. I buy mine frozen, too, so I have to toast them. They are a very dense bread. Some loaves crumble and some are just fine.

I rarely eat bread, but if I were going to eat it frequently I'd make my own.

Thanks :) Im going to try it. I miss bread and I just don't have the time to make it. I make so many other things and my life just doesnt give me enough time right now.

Are the brown rice tortillas better than the corn tortillas? I cant stand the corn tortillas unless I bake them a bit since they fall apart on me. Should I bake these too?

All of their breads that we've tried have stick together. I think it's because they are sweetned with fruit juice. I'm not sure that this would be anything like stollen. But I've never had it, so I can't say for sure.

The only one my daughter didn't like was some kind of almond bread. She said it was just horrid. My mom then tried a bite of it, spit it out and threw the whole loaf in the trash.

I think perhaps many of the loaves I've bought are really old. That might be why they crumble so easily. I don't think they are very hot sellers here. I buy some from my health food store. They're a small store and don't necessarily get a lot of traffic. I bought a couple of loaves that were marked down to next to nothing at one of the local groceries. Could be they were just very old. I don't know.

The brown rice tortillas are sooooo much better than corn tortilas. I personally hate the texture of corn tortillas. If you nuke the brown rice tortillas for 30 seconds or so, they are very pliable, and can be used to make a wrap or burrito. I also like to eat them cold with hummus or sunflower seed buter. Mmmm - yummy!

My husband and I like the Rice Pecan bread by FFL. However I LOVE the brown rice tortillas by FFL. Those are much better than most corn (white or yellow) tortillas for wraps. My favorite wraps are refried beans with guacamole and peanut butter and sliced peaches. YUM!

Thanks so much :) I bought the rice pecan bread, loved it :D Before celiac I use to buy Koepplinger's whole grain bread. It was a very dense and heavy bread before so its really nice since it was similar to this bread. I couldnt order the fruit bread since they didnt have it in the catalog to order from the local food store so I'm going to have to make a trip out of town to pick it up. If I get the bar code I should be able to order it locally the next time. Im anxious to try the brown rice tortillas, I usually use lettuce wraps so it will be a nice change.

      plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

      i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

      Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗

      I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again

      You may also need to supplement with B12 as this vitamin is also involved in iron assimilation and is often deficient in long-term undiagnosed celiac disease.
