Extreme moodiness. I was irritable and weepy. I even broke down in tears in the grocery store the first week. After about 2 to 3 weeks I experienced a lifting in mood and a disappearence of my depression issues that had been a problem since I was a child. They never come back now unless glutened.

Thanks Raven,

I am experiencing moodiness right now, i am also avoiding people so i don't have to talk to them, even family, and small things are annoying me IE church bells in the distance, which i'd never even noticed before have suddely become very annoying, I have also cried over something that wasn't even that big of a deal.(how very manly of me)

I am also experiencing a kind floaty feeling sometimes, almost a out of body feeling.I'm still getting those depressive feeling, my face feels expressionless sometimes and my mood is just flat, also feel asthough my sense of humour has dissapeared.

Ive been reading that the withdrawal symptoms usually lasts for around 2-3 weeks so i'm just going to wether the storm and see how it goes, ive been gluten free as far as i'm aware for 2 weeks now and the funny thing is i felt mentally better the first week gluten free than i have the second week.

Definitely! I had mild body aches, a nasty headache, extreme moodiness and brain fog, even some mild intermittent nausea. It lasted the better part of 2 weeks, then slowly lifted. By the end of week 3, I felt much better. Both of my kids had similar periods of withdrawal, lasting around 2 weeks. Hope you feel better soon!!!

I've been gluten-free for a week and can't really tell if I feel better or not. I'm just depressed all around. I was in trader joes today and wanted to get some beer so badly and it ruined my day. people have been calling me all day and i haven't answered my phone once. when i go out i just wanna turn around and head back home...not sure if these are withdrawal symptoms or just a funk i'm going thru. I'm also waiting on test results to see what else is going on in my body cause I don't think gluten sensitivity is the only problem. i'm basically just a nervous wreck now

Thanks for the replies,

I can handle physical stuff but the mental side of it is really hard, for past few days ive had to drag myself out of bed, i just want to feel like my old self again, hopefully this week i'll see a break through at some point, just going to have to suck it up a bit longer.

anyone else please feel free to list your withdrawal symptoms if you had any.

Much appreciated

thanks

Andy.

PS

Ive just found this quote from the book "dangerous grains" and it explains a lot-

"The addictive nature of gluten is often overlooked. For some, the first days and weeks of following a gluten-free diet are characterized by food cravings, disorientation, irritability, sleepiness, depression, mental fogginess, fatigue, and/or shortness of breath. If you are a member of this group, the very fact that you are experiencing many of these symptoms should reinforce the need to exclude gluten from your diet. These are common symptoms of withdrawl of detoxification from gluten-derived opiods and brain neurochemical imbalances. The evidence suggests that about 70 percent of celiac patients will experience these symptoms when beginning a strict gluten-free diet."

Thank you ,it’s been a long road for me for having both now ,what upsets the most is that if they discovered that I also have cealiac earlier I would not have injested gluten if I was aware. Double whammy.

Some interesting articles regarding the use of Zinc Carnosine to help heal gastric ulcers, gastritis and intestinal permeability. I would consult a medical professional about it's use. https://www.nature.com/articles/ncpgasthep0778 https://www.rupahealth.com/post/clinical-applications-of-zinc-carnosine---evidence-review https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7146259/ https://www.fallbrookmedicalcenter.com/zinc-l-carnosine-benefits-dosage-and-safety/

He is. Which makes everything even more difficult. I’m not a believer in “staying for the kids” but I have nowhere to go and it’s not just me, it’s me plus my babies. We live in a beautiful place, lots of land in the country and me and the kids love the place we’ve called home for their entire lives. But Im seeing that he’ll never change, that my kids deserve a happy healthy Momma, and that staying in this as is will be the early death of me. Then I look at the scars covering my entire body…this disease and the chronic stress I’ve been enduring for years that tell me I’m no longer beautiful and no one will ever look at me with interest again. I try self care, try to give myself grace so I can just start loving myself enough to gain strength but the slightest sparkle in my eye and skip in my step attracts his wrath and it all comes crashing ten fold. Life is just absolutely railing me from every single direction leaving me wanting to wave that white flag bc I don’t feel like there’s much hope no matter what happens.
