Ian's

Hi, my local health food store just recently started selling Ian's gluten free chicken nuggets and fish sticks. I used to have to travel to Whole Foods to get them. Yesterday I went in and found that they are now also carrying the little TV dinners Ian's makes as well which is great because my son loves them. But to my surprise they also had a gluten free and casein free french bread pizza by Ian's. I have never seen this before even on their web site so I wonder if it is a new product. I was very excited because usually you can find a gluten free and lactose free pizza but this is the first time I have found one that is casein free also. And on the back of the box they are advertising gluten free french toast sticks. Obviously I am very excited. Thought I would pass it on.

I still have yet to see the french toast sticks, and I would love to try those.

How was the pizza?

Do you know if the pizza is egg free as well? I think the French toast sticks are, but I haven't seen it for real. Just on the website.

I'll try to find the web site but think they are egg free..........BUT...........THEIR STUFF IS USUALLY CASEIN FREE BUT WITH THE PIZZA NOT SURE IF IT HAS CHEESE.

I'LL TRY TO POST TOMORROW ABOUT IT. WILL TRY TO GET TO THE STORE TO SEE.

My son liked the pizza. He asked if he can bring it for lunch today. The cheese is completely dairy free. It is soy and I think it has tofu in it. The only allergen I see listed on the box is soy. So I am assuming it is egg free as it is one of the major allergens and would be listed along with the soy if it were in there, right?

I love the French toast sticks. They also recently came out with 120 calorie cookie snack packs. I tried the cinnamon ones and they are delicious.

I can't use soy but the eggs should be listed if used.

Aw phooey. I hadn't thought about soy. Daughter is allergic to that. I've been using rice cheese for pizza.

My son LOVES the chicken nuggets, patties and the tv dinner that Ian's provides--I was delighted to find the chicken nuggets at SAFEWAY yesterday. The other products, I have to go to the health food store to buy. The TV dinners are especially great to send with my son when he's sleeping over at a friend's house, so the parents there don't have to worry about providing safe food for him.

Yay for Ians! I'm going to look for the french toast and pizza, now that you folks have tuned me into them.

Susanna

Levels on my celiac panel were within normal range except ttg iga which was tagged as high (646 mg/dl). Is that typical?

A lot of people erroneously think soy is a problem for people needing to be on a gluten-free diet. Trents' comment above speaks to some celiacs also having a sensitivity to soy, but this is just some of them.  However, soy sauce is something anyone following a gluten-free diet should be wary of. Many soy sauces contain wheat, which is where the soy/gluten confusion comes into play. There is gluten-free soy sauce available, just read labels to be sure. I use San-J Tamari, which is gluten-free but does contain soy, in place of regular soy sauce.

I have many of those same CMP irregularities from time to time, with the exception that my potassium is always normal. What I can tell you is that it is normal for everything not to be normal when you get a CMP done. I used to get a CBC and CMP done annually and there were always some things out of spec. Docs don't get excited about it for the most part. It depends on the particular parameter (some are more important than others) and it depends on how far out of range it is. Docs also look for trends over time as opposed to isolated snapshots of this or that being out of spec at any given time. Our body chemistry is a dynamic entity.
