I consider myself the Grand Duchess of eyeshadow colors (Donna is the Queen  ) since I have over 40 colors now. I have all of those colors you mentioned. I would definitely go with Good China. It is hands down the color I use most often for a hilighter or base. It is the perfect combination of beige/peach/pink. It works with everything. Floating Feathers is very white. I like it a lot with the purples. Rare silk is matte, and can have a tendency to look a little gray. On the EM site, I read a recommendation from someone to combine it with a little pick me up pink concealer to mellow it out. That works great.

Thanks for your input Colleen.

I have Rare Silk in my cart, I'm glad to know it has a grayness about it, that's not what I am looking for at all.

I'm going to trade it out with Good China right now.

Julie, I also use my trial foundations that are too light as eyeshadow bases and highlighters.

That is a really good tip Jess, thanks.

Hello everyone, I'm baaaaccccckkkkk (sort of, lol). I'm still not all here, but at least I can sit upright for more than a few minutes. I've had some sort of nasty viral thing....had a fever for a few days, but saw the doctor on Wednesday and she said my lungs were clear, so not bronchitis or pneumonia (yet anyway). I have a wicked cough that comes on suddenly...I actually pulled a muscle in my chest and head one one viscious attack. :P

I have to tell you guys...I feel horrible, been getting some bad stuff sneaking into my diet, and my Crohn's is acting up....I haven't worn makeup since Saturday, and I feel horrible, felt like I looked so washed out and nasty. I did my regular concealer/foundation/finishing powder routine, and was very conservative with the rest....Pick Me Up, a little bit of Corner Office, and a touch of Starry Eyed in the outer corners, very light....no liner, just mascara, and a touch of Corner Office on my cheeks....my husband came home and commented that he thought I wasn't feeling well, because I was absolutely glowing....well hello, thank you EM, I feel like crap and no one can tell! How great is that?

Hope you are feeling better by now! I haven't worn makeup in 7 days now! :o Didn't really care WHAT I looked like when I went to the doctor, and my only other ventures out were to the grocery store and to Walgreen's to get more kleenex and decongestant, lol. Didn't care what I looked like for any of that. :P Went out in my pajamas even.

Fellow cult members, please forgive me, but I have strayed.

Oh, okay, since you supplied GREAT application tips, I guess you are forgiven!

 Seriously, I'm going to try the silk dust tip!

Today i mixed mojave and plum dust and it gave me a great looking blush that im in love with. Yesterday i used plum dust as an eye shadow and it was very very pretty. Im in love with the pkum dust color lol.

See, isn't mixing fun!

Ok i felt i should bump this up since donna is sick.

Excellent job!

My big problem is not being able to consistantly create the same mix. Sometimes it is a little lighter, sometimes a little darker. I need something small enough to accurately measure the the components so I can get consistent mixing results.

I bought a little set of measuring spoons at Bed, Bath...they are really tiny, like 1/8th tsp, etc. I've been using those to make my mixes.

I haven't been feeling too well myself, but I got up the courage to try the Lavender Everydaywear. It's a rather heavy... way too heavy to be worn under foundation during the day, but it's wonderful to put on at night! It gets absorbed into the skin... and isn't lavender supposed to be anti-inflamatory and anti-acne?

Oooh, makes me want to try it! I haven't been too interested in the creams, but now maybe. :P

Face and Blush colors: New Car Smell (made the regular line up) and Wet Sand (that is new isn't it?)

New Car definitely is new, Wet Sand has been around a while...I must go check the site to see what's going on.

I HAVE AN ORDER ON MY DESK AT WORK!!!!! I haven't been at work for 6 work days, so knowing it's there is killing me, lol.

the redhead with the goldfinger eyes

 Totally cracked me up!!!!

Hope you are feeling better!

For a creamy beige/white brow bone highlighter would you guys recommend Floating Feathers, Good China, or Rare Silk?

I see you ordered Good China...excellent choice...LOVE that.

I consider myself the Grand Duchess of eyeshadow colors (Donna is the Queen  ) since I have over 40 colors now. I have all of those colors you mentioned. I would definitely go with Good China.

Excellent advice!

That looks like a great order ShadowSwallow. I am going to have the market cornered on all the light shades soon. I ordered a big bunch of mini's and another sample kit. I am determined to mix up a shade I like.

Oh, okay, since you supplied GREAT application tips, I guess you are forgiven!

Thanks. I really have liked my EM better since applying these tips. I hope it works for you.

I will have to find some online and try that. Someone suggested I get a coke spoon to measure. I said oh, yeah, and everyone will believe me when I say I only use it for measuring my makeup, lol.

Ain't it the truth.

Well, I got my latest order the fastest ever. 2 days from order to delivery priority mail. I was amazed. I am disappointed however, because the eyeshadow brush included with the mini eyeshadow kit is nothing like the last one.

The main reason I ordered the kit was to get the brush so I could leave it at my condo in Tulsa. What they sent instead was a really crummy dimestore looking angled brush. It looks like what you would get in a cheap set at walmart. In fact, my little $10 set from walmart has a much nicer brush than this one. I hope this is not a sign of things to come with EM.

Well you would definitely be the one to notice what all is new Donna.

Like Patti said, all is right with the world when you are back posting in the EM thread.

You and Mango both, where is Mango btw? I want to know how your EM is holding up in Ireland.

Good order Birdy, I am still waiting to place mine.

That is super fast delivery time.

I think this is the brush I got in my kit, it sounds very much like what you describe and I was so not impressed. I thought this is what all the brushes must be like and what has kept me from ordering any other EM brushes (I was actually confused by all the raves)

So, the regular EM brushes are nothing like this cheapy eye kit brush?

confusedks Enthusiast

I actually have been wondering why everyone raves about the EM brushes. I have a kabuki (I don't know what size it is) and it's pretty pathetic. It is not soft at all. It also doesn't say EM on it. It looks like a cheapie brush from a drug store.

I also have an eyeshadow brush I got from them, and I love it. It came with the mini E/S kit and it is really nice. It says EM on it, and has really great bristles.

I don't know whether to order a new kabuki or not?:rolleyes:

WW340 Rookie

The first mini eyeshadow kit I ordered came with a nice long handled brush with white bristles. It is a light colored wooden handle with everyday minerals written on it, and it has a metal collar where the bristles attach.

This new brush is a short black handled brush with very short brown angled bristles. It is very cheap looking and feeling. It does not have any writing on it, and it has a plastic collar where the bristles attach. It has very few bristles at all.

I have liked all the other brushes. My baby kabuki is soft and full. As is the flat top brush. I also have the concealer brush which looks a lot like the original eyeshadow brush, but it has longer bristles that are shaped a little differently.

If I knew how to attach pictures I would.

This is exactly what I got, it hurt my eye lids applying eye color it was so scratchy.

Hmm, between your and Kassandra's posts I am beginning to think they are sending different brushes out, maybe according to what they have/don't have in stock.

When they run out of something maybe they send the cheapy stuff out?

confused Community Regular

I dont like my short handled kabuki, it really hurts my face cuase it is so screatchy but i love my new flat top brush, i use that for everything lol. I havent used the kabuki since the first week i got it lol.

Like i said im starting to think about straying to other companies lol But i do know that iw ill never give up my Em eyeshadows, i really like all the colors i have lol.

But im getting tired of not finding the perfect foundation, i really want to find one color that i can use every day and be happy lmao

You and me both.

The flat top brush I have is amaaaaaaazzzing. I instantaneously ditched all of my BE brushes because of it.

I hear the old EM brushes lack greatness, however. Perhaps they still occasionally send those out.

I think that is exactly what they are doing. Too bad really, if that had been my first brush from them, I would never have ordered another mini kit. I get the kit to get the brush and try some colors I wouldn't otherwise order. The brush was really the deciding factor for me this last time. I didn't need all those colors, but thought what the heck, I might as well get the kit and another brush.

I so hear ya on that one. Maybe you could try what I did. Find a professional to help you get the right color in another brand, and then come back to EM. I think I am very close to the right mix in EM now that I know what I need in a color. And in the meantime I have something I can wear that looks good on me.

I found some small measuring spoons on ebay and ordered them, so maybe I can get a consistant mix.

I think I am going to write them and find out. That is not cool at all if they are sending out different brushes! The eyeshadow brush that I got and love I would pay a LOT more money than if it was the same as the kabuki. Hmm, I sure hope they are being ethical. <_<

Yeah, totally not fair if there is suppose to be a nice fluffy soft exclusive EM eye color brush sent out with the mini eye kit and I get this cheap plastic generic brand flimsy thing with the wire-like bristles...that's crazy.

Let us know if you get a response.

I will try to take a picture of my eye color brush and post it so we can compare what everyone got in their mini eye kits.

WW340 Rookie

OK, I have never done this, so we will see if I can make it work.

I took a picture of my EM brushes.

It totally worked, good job.

That is my brush, second from the right.

WW340 Rookie

Thanks, glad it worked.

Yes, that is my new one. The one next to it is what I have gotten in the past. There is a big difference between the two.

To make matters even worse, I just realized I did not get the special with my order, nor did I get the discount. I just now realized that. I don't know how that happened, because I know I put the code in and made sure I had enough to qualify. In fact, the code is still showing up in may cart.

Dang, now I am feeling even worse about that whole order.

Huge difference between the two brushes. I'm bummed.

I would contact the company and let them know the discount you entered wasn't reflected in your total, and that you didn't receive the special. I am sure they will remedy the situation if it is showing up in your oreder.

@Jane02, I hear you about the kale and collard greens.  I don't do dairy and must eat green leafies, too, to get sufficient calcium.  I must be very careful because some calcium supplements are made from ground up crustacean shells.  When I was deficient in Vitamin D, I took high doses of Vitamin D to correct the deficiency quickly.  This is safe and nontoxic.  Vitamin D level should be above 70 nmol/L.  Lifeguards and indigenous Pacific Islanders typically have levels between 80-100 nmol/L.   Levels lower than this are based on amount needed to prevent disease like rickets and osteomalacia. We need more thiamine when we're physically ill, emotionally and mentally stressed, and if we exercise like an athlete or laborer.  We need more thiamine if we eat a diet high in simple carbohydrates.  For every 500 kcal of carbohydrates, we need 500-1000 mg more of thiamine to process the carbs into energy.  If there's insufficient thiamine the carbs get stored as fat.  Again, recommended levels set for thiamine are based on minimum amounts needed to prevent disease.  This is often not adequate for optimum health, nor sufficient for people with absorption problems such as Celiac disease.  Gluten free processed foods are not enriched with vitamins like their gluten containing counterparts.  Adding a B Complex and additional thiamine improves health for Celiacs.  Thiamine is safe and nontoxic even in high doses.  Thiamine helps the mitochondria in cells to function.  Thiamine interacts with each of the other B vitamins.  They are all water soluble and easily excreted if not needed. Interesting Reading: Clinical trial: B vitamins improve health in patients with coeliac disease living on a gluten-free diet https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19154566/ Safety and effectiveness of vitamin D mega-dose: A systematic review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34857184/ High dose dietary vitamin D allocates surplus calories to muscle and growth instead of fat via modulation of myostatin and leptin signaling https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38766160/ Safety of High-Dose Vitamin D Supplementation: Secondary Analysis of a Randomized Controlled Trial https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31746327/ Vitamins and Celiac Disease: Beyond Vitamin D https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11857425/ Investigating the therapeutic potential of tryptophan and vitamin A in modulating immune responses in celiac disease: an experimental study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40178602/ Investigating the Impact of Vitamin A and Amino Acids on Immune Responses in Celiac Disease Patients https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10814138/

Thank you so much @knitty kitty for this insightful information! I would have never considered fractionated coconut oil to be a potential source of GI upset. I will consider all the info you shared. Very interesting about the Thiamine deficiency.  I've tracked daily averages of my intake in a nutrition software. The only nutrient I can't consistently meet from my diet is vitamin D. Calcium is a hit and miss as I rely on vegetables, dark leafy greens as a major source, for my calcium intake. I'm able to meet it when I either eat or juice a bundle of kale or collard greens daily haha. My thiamine intake is roughly 120% of my needs, although I do recognize that I may not be absorbing all of these nutrients consistently with intermittent unintentional exposures to gluten.  My vitamin A intake is roughly 900% (~6400 mcg/d) of my needs as I eat a lot of sweet potato, although since it's plant-derived vitamin A (beta-carotene) apparently it's not likely to cause toxicity.  Thanks again!
    • knitty kitty
Hello, @Jane02,  I take Naturewise D 3.  It contains olive oil.   Some Vitamin D supplements, like D Drops, are made with fractionated coconut oil which can cause digestive upsets.  Fractionated coconut oil is not the same as coconut oil used for cooking.  Fractionated coconut oil has been treated for longer shelf life, so it won't go bad in the jar, and thus may be irritating to the digestive system. I avoid supplements made with soy because many people with Celiac Disease also react to soy.  Mixed tocopherols, an ingredient in Thornes Vitamin D, may be sourced from soy oil.  Kirkland's has soy on its ingredient list. I avoid things that might contain or be exposed to crustaceans, like Metagenics says on its label.  I have a crustacean/shellfish/fish allergy.  I like Life Extension Bioactive Complete B Complex.  I take additional Thiamine B 1 in the form Benfotiamine which helps the intestines heal, Life Extension MegaBenfotiamine. Thiamine is needed to activate Vitamin D.   Low thiamine can make one feel like they are getting glutened after a meal containing lots of simple carbohydrates like white rice, or processed gluten free foods like cookies and pasta.   It's rare to have a single vitamin deficiency.  The water soluble B Complex vitamins should be supplemented together with additional Thiamine in the form Benfotiamine and Thiamine TTFD (tetrahydrofurfuryl disulfide) to correct subclinical deficiencies that don't show up on blood tests.  These are subclinical deficiencies within organs and tissues.  Blood is a transportation system.  The body will deplete tissues and organs in order to keep a supply of thiamine in the bloodstream going to the brain and heart.   If you're low in Vitamin D, you may well be low in other fat soluble vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin K. Have you seen a dietician?
    • Scott Adams
I do not know this, but since they are labelled gluten-free, and are not really a product that could easily be contaminated when making them (there would be not flour in the air of such a facility, for example), I don't really see contamination as something to be concerned about for this type of product.
