Scared Of 3rd Diet :(

As u guys all know I'm goin to be startin a 3rd diet, for gallbladder problems. I set my date for Dec 27th because by then anythin i made for xmas would already be eaten so I can begin cutting out anything fattening.

I'm not terrified of missin the food or goin nuts from eatin almost nothin, it's the Celiac part of it all that's got me soooo scared!!! Cuz I'm not sure if u can remember this or not, but I'm one of those Celiacs who lost weight, and a great deal of it, if it wasn't for eatin more than i wanted to, eatin when not hungry, and not goin easy on the things like butter or anythin nicely fattenin (this was a dietician's suggestion a few years ago).

That worked...I regained a bit of weight and was able to maintain it.

But then came the Crohn's diet which I started this summer (which is hard enough on its own to follow)...and I lost a little weight cuz of it.

Now with this one? I don't even want to imagine what its goin to do to my weight situation. :( . No gluten, dairy, meat, vegetables, or anything containing fat...

Pretty sure its not goin to be as bad as Celiac where I lose over 1 pound a day and lose 25% of my weight in 1 1/2 months, but that thought still haunts me, knowin that i CAN drop it that easily.

How do u suggest I don't let this get the best of me???

I am so glad your doctor finally figured out what the problem is. He should have referred you to a dietician, with all the diagnoses you have gotten they are going to be your best bet to get this under control. You should follow his prescription for your diet strictly, with no cheesies cheating :) Make sure that whatever food he and the nutritionist prescribe that you always have something with you so you don't get stuck starving and have to eat stuff you shouldn't. I hope this gets under control soon and you are feeling better.

Well he HASN'T said it specifically, but remember that it is his idea right along and I talked to a few others who had the surgery and they all told me the same thing -- no fats. My auntie even described it perfectly: pain under the boob. Which makes me realize this has started awhile ago, I started having these pains in the summer yet! And believe me, I am going to be waiting at least 2 more months before I can SEE a specialist, nevermind get tested to verify, and there's no way I can suffer for that long without trying to ease it somehow on my own. My usual IBD pains are too much to handle as it is (and that's almost 2 years straight of them!).

I do hope the diet helps a bit. One good place for info would be WebMD's message board. Post your questions under the digestive disorders section. Many of the folks there are very helpful. There are a lot of us who have dealt with gallbladder stuff and I am sure they will have some good info for you also. Take Care.

I had to eat very low fat when before I had my gallbladder out. I wasn't able to avoid fat altogether but limited it as much as possible. After it was taken out I was able to add fat back into my diet.

I don't see sugar or fruit on the list of forbidden items. Both fruit juice and soda will add calories to your diet but not much in nutrition. Also, you might want to look into products like Ensure and SlimFast (liquid only). I believe they are gluten free. If they meet your other dietary restrictions they would add calories and nutrition to your diet.

I have no advise to offer but my heart goes out to you. I had my gallbladder removed many moons ago. After that oddly enough the one thing that gave me the most trouble was green peppers!!!! After about a year I could eat them again..

I just wanted to say you are always in my prayers, you are a sweet person & my hope is that the doctors are on the right path to make you feel better......You certainly deserve some medical relief......

If you cut out everything, for sure you are going to suffer in both weight loss and nutrition.

Why in the world would you need to cut out vegetables? You also need protein from some source or your body cannot possibly heal or even do normal regeneration and I've heard that's how cancer starts, so I think you need to rethink what you are doing or get a doctor's help.

My vegetables are limited and well since you're not supposed to eat pepper for gallbladder I guess I'm left with only lettuce and cucumbers now. Everything else makes me sick. And I'm not talking about cramps or bloating, I mean actually SICK. I know plenty of people who can't eat any, either (with some form of IBD).

It doesn't matter if it's raw or cooked, I just honestly can't stomach them. Whatever diet I've been on following that book I bought on IBD is good enough for now, it at least helps me get out of bed or be able to eat somewhat. Only time I haven't learned to handle it is when I get flareups. So I don't want to alter that diet any.

Good Luck with your dr's visit, no fats will help the symptoms till your able to get it taken care of. It's very common to lose a little weight avoiding fats and dairy while awaiting surgery so if you do lose a little you will gain it back eventually.

Blehhh I had another attack during the night, nearly threw up a couple times and felt like someone took a giant knife and stabbed me under the boob...I didnt fall asleep until about 6:30 am :huh:

(and by everyone, that means those who i see face-to-face)....Hard to believe I lasted exactly 23 months without truly losing belief in myself... :(:(:(

Also look into a product called Benecalorie. It is specifically designed to combat unintended weight loss, is lactose-free, and suitable for gluten-free diets. It isn't easily found locally, but there are many places you can buy it online. I have not personally used it (losing too much weight is SO not my problem!) but I am told there is no after-taste, which is a big turn-off with both Ensure and SlimFast.

Lisa, I don't usually post on these 'support only' threads, but some of them I do follow. I, too, find it amazing that you've done so well with all that you've gone through.

It's unfortunate that your face-to-face contacts have such a hard time believing in you, but ultimately it's belief in yourself that gets you through life. And you have shown, with all your willingness to buck up and look these people in th face and say "no, I'm right about my own health" that you believe in yourself.

I'm sorry that at 23 you have to face situations that would floor a much more experienced person, but you are doing an amazing job. Hang on and keep fighting for what you know you need. The world needs people with your strength and determination.

If you can tolerate fruit juices, drink as much as you can. Liquid calories can add up quickly, which is why they always encourage you to cut them out when trying to lose weight.

What kind of fruit juices do you mean??? Because of my hiatus hernia I have issues with anything acid-y...would something like tropicana be good?

Hi, have you ever been given digestive enzymes? I think it's worth considering rather than resigning yourself to not eat a lot of foods that normally are essential for good health. Besides, the inability to digest some foods usually leads to more and more intolerances as time goes by. I had this happen to me shortly after I had my son (25 years ago...), the number of things that I couldn't digest and/or tolerate kept growing and then one night I spent more than an hour doubled over with pain while sitting on the toilet after having had a bowl of oatmeal with milk. Luckily for me I was already into nutrition so when I got a recommendation for a nutritionist I immediately made an appointment and he prescribed some good multiple enzymes and I began to feel better the very first day and eventually was able to eat everything again. I was able to understand how this worked when I read in "Let's Get Well" by the late Adelle Davis that insufficient enzymes caused proteins in our food to not be properly broken down and absorbed and, since enzymes required amino acids as time went by we would produce even less thus aggravating the problem but taking them in supplement form for a few weeks usually corrected the problem.

I just found this Open Original Shared Link which mentions allergy to a number of foods as the culprit for a lot of "gall bladder" pain. Adelle Davis also wrote that allergies are caused by undigested proteins entering our blood. She also mentioned that allergies are stress diseases and recommended taking B-complex vitamins, specially pantothenic acid, and Vit. C among others. Because of your Celiac and the restrictive diets you've been on before, it would be a safe assumption that you've both may have developed multiple deficiencies and that your body has been under quite a bit of stress (not counting whatever else may be going on in your life...) so those should be addressed first in order for your general health to improve.

Therefore I highly recommend that you seek the advice of a holistic nutritionist (NOT a dietitian as it's not the same thing). Meanwhile please go to Open Original Shared Link and look up liver cleansing as many people have avoided gall bladder surgery by doing those; avoiding fats is really NOT the solution to this problem, it can actually make it worse in some cases.       Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

      Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

      Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

      Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
