Rash Caused By Iodine In Thyroid Meds

Okay, I've controlled my DH very well with diet for many years; however, because I really react to iodine, I've avoided every source of it. That, apparently, caused my thyroid to fail beginning list July. Unfortunately, all thyroid meds contain iodine, and that has caused an itchy rash across my upper back (not DH, though, just a regular "allergic type" reaction), a constant sore throat, and an inflamed thyroid. Also, if I encounter even the smallest amount of gluten contamination, I break out in DH all over my face, neck, and sole of my right foot. So.....does anybody have any advice? I've tried N.A.E.T., which supposedly is the only real solution to an iodine allergy, but after five treatments, there has been no improvement. Can anyone suggest a possible remedy for this? Has anyone out there ever had this problem? And, remember, I'm not talking about DH in this specific situation--it's an allergic reaction to iodine. Help, please!!

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. However I do know that your thyroid needs iodine to function (which you probably knew) but the amount is small. Maybe talk to your doctor about dietary sources of iodide in which the amounts are big enough to help your thyroid but not so big to cause a reaction? I don't know how much that helps you. You could also look into compounding pharmacies, that might help to.

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?
