Is it just almonds he is allergic to, or other nuts as well? If other nuts are fine, I would just use ground hazelnuts. I have substituted ground hazelnuts many times, and it turns out fine.

I was going to suggest hazelnuts. But if it is ALL tree nuts...you could try corn meal. But I would soak the corn meal for 30 minutes prior to using. I am thinking this in my mind as I do when I experiment all of the time with baking. I am not saying it would work, but if he tolerates corn, this is what I would try.

OR you could buy hulled hemp seeds and give em a quick whirl in the coffee grinder or food processor. This would give the same consistency.

Both of my sons have mild peanut allergy. Hubby is allergic to almonds and sunflower

Thinking i'd do the hemp seeds.

Peanuts are a legume and hazelnuts are tree nuts. People with a peanut allergy shouldn't have any problem with hazelnuts.

One of my daughters is allergic to almonds but fine with hazelnuts, the other is allergic to hazelnuts and is fine with almonds. I think that using hazelnuts should be safe.

But hemp seeds might work, too.

I interchange almond meal and ground flax seed...

For challah bread, I don't know if flax seed would work since you want to have that nice potato flavor and not a nutty flavor (in my opinion, flax seed is stronger tasting than almond meal). I made this gluten free challah bread found on the website www.glutenfreeinthegreens.blogspot.com . It was delicious, especially when it was cool all the way. She recommended using dry milk powder or almond meal, so maybe you could try that instead:

I am wondering if ground flax seeds would work in place of the almond meal?

In Carol Fenster's Cooking Free book she says as a sub for corn flour you can use almond flour, bean flour or chestnut flour. So depending on the recipe you could sub one of those. I like to make 1/2 of a recipe to see how it turns out first.

I used the recipe above and used hazelnuts instead of the milk or almond and it turned out great!

Thanks everybody, it was a big hit!

They may want to also eliminate other possible causes for your symptoms/issues and are doing additional tests.  Here is info about blood tests for celiac disease--if positive an endoscopy where biopsies of your intestinal villi are taken to confirm is the typical follow up.

In the Europe the new protocol for making a celiac disease diagnosis in children is if their tTg-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) levels are 10 times or above the positive level for celiac disease--and you are above that level. According to the latest research, if the blood test results are at certain high levels that range between 5-10 times the reference range for a positive celiac disease diagnosis, it may not be necessary to confirm the results using an endoscopy/biopsy: Blood Test Alone Can Diagnose Celiac Disease in Most Children and Adults TGA-IgA at or Above Five Times Normal Limit in Kids Indicates Celiac Disease in Nearly All Cases No More Biopsies to Diagnose Celiac Disease in Children! May I ask why you've had so many past tTg-IgA tests done, and many of them seem to have been done 3 times during short time intervals?

@JettaGirl, "Coeliac" is the British spelling of "celiac". Same disease.

This may sound ridiculous but is this supposed to say Celiacs? I looked up Coeliacs because you never know, there’s a lot of diseases related to a disease that they come up with similar names for. It’s probably meant to say Celiacs but I just wanted to confirm.

I was told it was to see how much damage has been caused. But just told CT with contrast not any other name for it.
