Hi Everyone!

I went to the doctor on Thursday to get the results back for my endoscopy/colonoscopy, and didn't get the results I expected. I told my doctor I had been on the gluten free diet for a couple weeks and the pain was pretty much gone, and he said okay we'll go with celiac disease. Okay...? Anyway he said that my white blood cell count was way too high and we weren't really sure why so i had to do another blood test to check my antibodies. (First of all what does this mean lol) He then told me to lay back and was mashing on my stomach and didn't really say much then he was at the sink washing is hands and got completely serious and asked when my last pap test was...3 years ago hehe and he just looked at me and was like Wendy you really need to go get this test done and get your cervix looked at. He kind of scared me a bit, he then asked my history of it...mom, 3 aunts, grand mother, great grandmother... were all diagnosed with cervical cancer around the age of 20-25 (I'm 20) My aunt Rachel died of it when she was 29. Anyway, why would he say that before he ever knew my family history, could he have felt something in my lower abdomen? I mean I checked out the symptoms of cervical cancer and lets just say I have many but I don't know really just stumped on the entire issue, any advice would be greatly appreciated! Sorry just seems like a giant leap for me, you have a wheat allergy....or you might have cervical cancer? lol excuse me?

I dont think he was connecting the two.

With your family history, I do have to ask why you dont get annual pap smears?

Cervical cancer is the easiest to treat when found early.

He may not know jack about Celiac, but I think his advice to get your cervix checked wasnt something he "mentioned in passing".

Go get it checked!!!!

If you feel better off gluten, then stay off of it. But dont ignore your cervix.

please, get a pap smear as soon as possible. Borrow the money, call around and find a cheap place. Clinics are helpful and will tell you the cost and give you a discount for paying cash. There is absolutely no reason with your family history to not be getting one every year.

white blood cell counts can mean there is an infection present.

maybe he felt something in your abdomen. Health is always a one issue thing, we can have two things(or more) wrong with us.

What did your colonoscopy/endoscopy results say?

Are you in college? Student health centers usually do them for very cheap. Your local health department can do it inexpensively. You could apply for medicaid. Just because you use it once doesn't mean you'll be on it forever. They have temporary authorizations for certain things. You never know...

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
