First Time Glutenated After 8 Days Gluten Free

I went out to dinner. I had previously looked up the gluten free menu, and also called the restaurant. On my way out, I forgot the info at homeg (I wrote it down) and thought I'd surely be able to rely on my memory (I'd been over it several times.)

I was getting the salmon, veggies, and mashed potatoes and it was confirmed to be free from gluten.

After dinner, and right before we left, I had to go to the bathroom (probably 45 minutes after eating my meal.) Interestingly enough I had the same BM types that I had prior to going gluten free. Malformed, a bit foul smelling, etc. I wasn't in pain, and it was certainly better than it ever used to be, but still I found it odd that it happened b/c it hadn't happened at all since going gluten free (ok sorry if that was TMI!)

So I get home and look at what I wrote down, and sure as you-know-what I WAS glutenated because the mashed potatoes had gravy (and I wrote NO gravy on my paper, and I remember them telling me that also.)

When I ordered though, I had remembered wrong, I forgot about the gravy

Furthermore, strangely, shortly after I went to the bathroom, I became ravenous for food, almost like I hadn't even eaten (again, something that hasn't happened in that manner, since going gluten free, but became a regular occurance over the last six or so months.)

I found it all so amazing - in almost a good way, that my body responded that way because the proof's in the pudding so to speak. Crazy, interesting, huh? LUCKILY .... other than having malformed and loose stool, and being pretty hungry, I am not having any pain - so that's a good thing, and now I see a bit more clearly that all of this may not be coincidental and may seriously be part of the problem. There are many "ifs" and "borderlines" and "coincidences" that seem to be pointing in one direction - the big "G" (gluten)

Has anyone had a similar experience to this? I am so new to all of this, I'm interested in hearing from others who've "been there" a bit longer than me.

Live2BWell - That is exactly how I feel right after I am sick with D, I am ravenous like I haven't eaten in days. It's such an odd feeling. Since I've been gluten free I haven't had that feeling. I have had D but I don't feel like I need to eat a horse afterwards. I wonder why that is?? Does anyone have input?

I have had similar things happen, although different also. I can't sleep after getting glutened because my thyroid goes crazy. Also have gut issues including some pain in LLBB (lower left of belly button). I do get extra hungry for some reason and I Can't explain that at all. Lately I had been eating less, feeling less hungry but glutened myself this week and got the hungries again. Not sleeping well started the first day and is still not totally resolved after 3 days. Pain is not bad though, and gut issues generally not too bad either.

I feel your pain. Grain and gluten intolerant. Hang in there. This forum is very helpful

IDK how common it is but it does happen. I'm celiac, allergic, and intolerant to the fiber in grains. (Fodmaps) So not only do I get sick from cross contamination, also gluten free wheat statch/fiber, and beauty products with wheat will get me. While I don't stop breathing the full body hives and short breath are not fun. Then once I make through that me and the bathroom become reacquaint. Sigh if I didn't feel so much better with the restrictions on my diet I'd feel sorry for myself. Least it makes for some good jokes about how the gremlin that lives in my gut really hates wheat.

Hi Dora77. “Questions I Need Help With” “1. Is it realistically safe to eat food my mom cooks…” YES - you wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for your mother. Trust she still knows how to take the best care of you in her own way. Mishaps and cross contamination may happen - will happen on occasion, in fact - that’s life. But for the bulk of it as long as you’re aware of cc and try to avoid it for the most part, don’t sweat the small stuff! See the gluten free diet as a process. Own the process, Do Not let the process own you! “2. Do I need to worry about touching doorknobs, fridge handles, light switches, etc. that family members touched after eating gluten? What about public places like bus handles or...

Unfortunately not going to be able to let you know how Amneal is working because I still have almost 3 month supply of Mylan.  Had annual appointment with endocrinologist last week (though get scripts for blood work more often) and since was on my last refill, she sent new script to pharmacist.  Staying on my Mylan until it's gone.  (I tend to build up a supply because after trying a couple of endocrinologists for my Hashimotos, one finally got my thyroid regulated by my taking only six days a week instead of adjusting the strength which had me constantly up and down.  Will be forever grateful to her.  Apparently high percentage of folks with Celiac also have Hashimotos so all this...

Thanks for sharing this! Have you started taking the Amneal? I'm curious how it's going for you. My pharmacy gave me the option of Accord, Macleod or Amneal. I didn't realize that Amneal was formerly Lannett, or I might have chosen that one. However, I did read some anecdotal reports that some people had side effects with Amneal, so I chose Accord. I have been taking it for 3-4 weeks and the past 10 days I have developed extreme fatigue/sluggishness, joint pain and some brain fog. I don't know if it is the new levo med, but nothing else has changed. Has anyone else taken Accord levo? Any issues? It seems to fall into the "no gluten ingredients, but we...
