Gluten Free 1 Month

Feel so much better havent touched gluten for 1 month though I may still be getting some trace amounts in from who knows where. It seems my stomach is bloated a bit and in alot o fpain when i move around feels like the intestines are stretching and its painful. I get some gas too.

Other then that my skin and bag under my eyes are way better. Energy levels are much better stools are solid brown though it comes in small amounts and somtimes in the monring i pass 3 seperate stools. But at least it all comes out!

Only thing is my stomach is in pain still and still lil bloated does this go way? and anyone know what is the cause of this? Kinda hard to enjoy myself when Im worried/in discomfort. Im only 27 and i really want to move on with this "sick" chapter of my life.

Healing for adults takes 1-2 years, so though I know it is really hard--patience is needed. I went through lots of different phases of symptoms.

I'd give it another couple of months and if you are still making progress, great. Be sure you are very diligent about gluten-free, and check all your kitchen items and personal care items as is commonly mentioned on the forum.

For some of us gluten-free isn't enough. The first thing to do is try eliminating milk which is a common culprit, both lactose intolerance and casein intolerance. That could be the answer for your symptoms. If so, wait about 6 months and then try putting it back in and see what happens. Also try to eat very easily digested food and see if that helps.

There are many other intolerances that are also possibilities.

Also along with the problem of digesting lactose, other carbs may not be digested well until there is enough healing in the villi that you can produce the digestive enzymes for these foods. This is the reason I am on the specific carbohydrate diet now and am finally improving. If you are not digesting sugars, the sugars in your intestinal tract feed bad bacteria and cause many problems preventing healing. Probiotics may help once you reduce the undigested carbs getting through.

Finally there are other conditions that might cause the discomfort. Hopefully others will post ideas.

Really work hard to be 100% gluten-free. Check toiletries like lip stick, creams and such. No old scratched pans or cutting boards/wooden spoons.

Stay the course....it does get better.

Cutting ALL dairy for a few months can speed healing. You may be able to add it back in after that point.

Yes, we have been aware that this can be an issue with mushrooms but as long as they are rinsed thoroughly it should not be a problem since the mushrooms don't actually incorporate the gluten into their cellular structure. For the same reason, one needs to be careful when buying aged cheeses and products containing yeast because of the fact that they are sometimes cultured on gluten-containing substrate.

      The one kind of food I had been buying and eating without any worry for hidden gluten were unprocessed veggies. Well, yesterday I discovered yet another pitfall: cultivated mushrooms. I tried some new ones, Shimeji to be precise (used in many asian soup and rice dishes). Later, at home, I was taking a closer look at the product: the mushrooms were growing from a visible layer of shredded cereals that had not been removed. After a quick web research I learned that these mushrooms are commonly cultivated on a cereal-based medium like wheat bran. I hope that info his helpful to someone.
