Can't Figure Out

Noah has had diarrhea off and on for a couple of weeks. I can't figure out where he is getting gluten from. He is going to school now, but I really don't think he is eating anything without telling me. He is at the OVERLY truthful stage so I just don't think he would sneak it.

I did get a couple of new things at the grocery store, but I check ingredients thoroughly. so I am just having a really hard time with it.

Rice Dream milk (instead of our usual Almond Milk)

Chex Rice cereal

and Oscar Meyer honey ham ( I usually get the Oscar Meyer Naturals Ham)

Has anybody had any experience with these foods causing glutening???

My bet would be on the Rice Dream. If you do a search for it here, you'll see there's been lots of discussion about it being processed with barley enzymes, so even though it says 'gluten free' and it likely meets the new standards for it, really sensitive people may still react.

I noticed I was still having some issues a week or two ago, and I was still drinking this stuff.......I switched brands and haven't had any further issues.

Hope you get it figured out!

tired is right. Many react to Rice Dream. I would nix it. Have you tried the hemp milk. It is very good.

Definitely stop the Rice Dream - has low levels of barley that cause issues with some people.

I'm going to strongly agree with the Rice Dream. I gave it to my son for 2 1/2 or 3 months without realizing that it had the low levels of gluten / barley. We used it to cook with and for my son's cereal since we were also trying to keep him off of dairy. We stopped the Rice Dream and within a week his stomach pains were gone. We had tried to figure it out for MONTHS!! He's now back on dairy and has no issues!!

He also eats Rice Chex with no problems, but we haven't tried the ham.

Good luck! Margaret

thanks everyone!!! Out it goes!! I will go back to the almond milk. I only got rice dream because they don't sell almond milk at the store I usually do my shopping at (commissary, we are military) and I didn't want to have to keep making an extra stop. Almond milk was the only thing I was going to the other store for. I had not gotten it before just because I didn't think he would would like the taste. I never would have thought it had gluten in it. But I am glad to know that it was one of these products... And not him getting gluten at school, THAT is a lot harder to control.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
