DESSA :

You make a very good point... I think that if I am honest I am the same way...the last time I did WW I had a hard time figuring out how to balance my points throughout the day...because I was just trying to figure out what I could eat a lot of with low points...a friend that I saw doing really well on the program was doing that...a whole bag of popcorn, 2 liter bottel soda in one day, several fat free jellos, a spoonful of fat free cool whip if she wanted sweets....she said that she was a snacker anyway and that she found that most of her calories were in beverages so that is why she would down so much diet soda.

I also am a snacker...but I notice that now that I am gluten-free I only am constantly hungry when I have been contaminated. ...oh, and also during my period...

Anyway, I see your point in that if it is going to be a continued change then I should be more reasonable with portions because after I get to my goal I will be more likely to control myself and even if I do fluctuate it won't be extreme.....

At first when I read that you said that I shrugged and thought about how desperate I am to do this quick and get results quick and if I spend each day surviving on low pt snacks until I get home and have dinner with my husband and hope I can afford the pts...but that is NOT realistic....and anyway, isn't that like the actual definition of INSANITY...to keep doing the same thing expecting different results....?

WELL...I will try to be more reasonable...thank you dessa

OOPS MISTAKE SORRY LET ME TRY AGAIN...

FOOD QUESTION

Fat Free Pringles

heard they were gluten-free

Cool Whip

heard it was gluten-free BUT is the fat free one gluten-free?

Skinny Cow Fudge Bars

heard they were gluten-free...sort of tastes like a wendy's frosty on a stick...and it is big!

Jolly Time Healthy Pop

heard it was gluten-free

Jello snacks

heard it was gluten-free BUT is the fat free kind gluten-free?

Regular Pringles are not, so I doubt the fat-free is.

Cool whip is made by Kraft--just read labels to determine if fat free is gluten-free.

Don't know about the Skinny Cow or Jolly Time things...

Jello is made by Kraft--again, read labels.

GOAL # 1

I agree regular pringles are not, label on fat free original does not seem to have anything...and the list I got it from did specifically note "fat free original ONLY"

Fat Free Cool Whip has MODIFIED FOOD STARCH in it ....I remember that....so I guess no-go

Skinny Cow also was specific on the list "ONLY the fudge bars," and lable appears safe. I think also their sundae cups were on the list...but they are not at local supermarket anyway...

Jolly Time Popcorn was on the list except for the new one that is made with extra butter or something like that ...but I was only interested in the lighter one anyway....

I guess the fat free jello is safe too :-)

FOOD SUGGESTION

Thai Kitchen

makes these little packages of soups...they are rice noodles with seasoning packet and oil packet and they are VERY flavorful, satisfying, and even MARKED gluten-free!!!!!

I think they are only about 2pts. and less then a dollar a piece. My favorite is the spring onion flavor....the chili lime is a little much for me... I have used them as lunch with fruit, or you can use it as a snack I guess...

Glenny's Soy Crisps

Really yummy as well, pretty sure they are gluten-free

They are healthier then other chips and come in chip like satisfying flavors...there is also a apple cinnamon flavor which I had as an on the go breakfast one time with some tea.

Kozy Shack Pudding

There is a new type out that is specifically less calories and less sugar it comes in snack packs only...not sure what the pts. on that are but it is a healthy, gluten-free , choc. treat ( also comes in other flavors).

Modified food starch doesn't make it automatically bad--just questionable. But with Kraft, if the modified food starch has gluten in it, they will say so. See this article put out by Kraft--you need Adobe to read it and it takes a little while to open, but it's worth it. Basically, any gluten would be put in parentheses. For example: modified food starch (wheat), artificial flavors (barley). Since Cool Whip and Jello are made by Kraft Foods, they follow this labeling policy. Here's the article. By the way, just check the label to see if it's made by Kraft:

I am trying to be reasonable with this, too. I discovered that using the flex points, I would eat my points in ice cream and chocolate bars. I really need to eat healthier foods, and lose weight. Sometimes I think I am obsessive about food. >sigh<

what list are you talking about. I would like to have it also. :D

This mainstream list is quite a book! It is useful however with grocery shopping. Of course it is still important to skim the ingredients on the actual product...just incase it has changed...but this is still a convenient giude...

Go to Open Original Shared Link

(make sure you type in the whole address)

then scroll down to celiac option

then scroll down to Partial Mainstream Product list

it is printable on Adobe Acrobat

I don't remember where I got it from but thank God there was a web site on the packet itself!

MEAL CHOICES/ GROCERY SHOPPING

First of all this is hillarious to me because I am quoting myself...hehe...anyway though...I went grocery shopping and here is the gist...

I have gluten-free cereal for breakfast, which is by envirokids. Gorilla Munch and Koala Krisipies with fat free lactaid milk= 2pts. for cereal and 2pts. for milk

For lunch I have the Thai Kitchen soups=2pts.

Snack options are Sugar Free Jello (0pts.) Kozy Shack by Request No Sugar added ( 1pt.) Jolly Time Healthy Pop Butter Flavor ( 0pts. but that is for 1cup popped...eventually it would cost you...) Skinny Cow Fudge Bars ( 2pts.)

For Drinks I have diet coke, and diet snapple peach tea (0pts.)

Dinners with husband will have to be modified of course...we usually have meat/veg/ starch...and this is fine as long as my portions are reasonable and they are simply cooked.

ON ANOTHER NOTE

I also found my small arm-band radio for walking....(negative points there BABY!) ...hehe...

Also found my getting started book which has a small food list, and .....I FOUND MY POINT SLIDER!!!

--but thank you so very much to talsop...for if you did not send it to me I would have assumed I couldn't do it...

Looks like somebody else had the idea of starting a gluten-free Weight-Watchers support group as well :D. This one is on Yahoo...you could start your own (free) if you have a Yahoo e-mail account (also free), or you could join this one, which already has 48 members.

WOW!

celiac3270 thank you!!

Hey what do you think Dessa and Talsop?

-erica

plantime Contributor

Thank you, celiac3270. Some day, you'll have to explain to me how you manage to find things like that!

It is worth looking into. I went and applied for membership, I want to learn more about it before I truly commit. I want to know if they do a weekly weigh in, trade recipes, and such. I encourage each of you to look into it for yourselves. I can't say whether you would like it or not! I will let you know what I think of it after I get to look at it!

celiac3270 Collaborator

Oh, you can opt out anytime you want. With many groups, you need to join to post or even read messages. I've joined a couple Yahoo groups (but I read more than post)...anyway, I joined one for the New York area--then discovered that there are virtually no posts made and a lot of spam...so I unjoined...it's not a big commitment.

plantime Contributor

I was approved, so I will spend tomorrow reading up on the group. Thanks for the link!

Guest talsop

Hi all,

I checked out that yahoo site, I'm waiting for approval. Once approved I want to spend some time reading it before I decide to commit. I did weigh in today :( @ 219.6. I will start off with yogurt for breakfast 2pts. Apple for mid morning snack 1pt.

Lunch will be Chicken stir fry with rice & 2 servings of veggies 6pts. Afternoon snack - gluten-free crackers & 1 slice cheese 3pts. Dinner will be oven fried pork cutlet with gluten-free flour 6pts. green beans 0pts. mashed potatoes 2pt. applesauce 1pt, maragine for seasoning 2pt. with 4pts left for some kind of snack. That should take care of my 26 points. I would have gotten in 2 dairy , 5 fruits and veggies. And I will drink lots of water today.

I go tomorrow for my 6 months scope and another biopsy to see if my gut is healing after going gluten-free. Keep your fingers crossed. I really hate this test. Can't stand anything done my throat. First test they didn't put me out which was horrible. 2nd. test I was out and it was alittle better. I told the doc then that if he didn't knock me out I would knock him out after it was done :D

My goal is to lose 21lbs. then i will concentrate on losing the rest until I reach my all time goal of 160. 59.6 lbs to goooo.

And thank you celiac3270 for taking the time to find that site :) your to sweet!

Militarymomof3 Newbie

Good Morning! B)

I'm new to this gluten free lifestyle (1 month) and before that I doing WW. I lost 37 pounds and now I'm trying to incorporate Core with my current eating. I'm bouncing around the scales (3+ pounds every week). I started out last year at 240 and now I'm at 210..so first I have to relose the 7 pounds Ive gained.

I would love to follow this and see how everyone is eating. I have so many questions and hope you can help me get motivated. I still have 50 pounds to lose.

Tam

plantime Contributor

WI this morning is 199. So my short-term goal is to lose 19.9 pounds. I'll make that an even 20! I ate plain M-O-M corn bursts this morning, I will have a cup of 2% milk in a few minutes. My daughter did point out that my weight today is 2 pounds lower than it was a couple of days ago, so I think I will be happy!

Guest michneva

LOL

Hey, I weighed in at 206lbs....don't know where the 3lbs. went but I DO NOT MISS THEM AND THEY ARE NOT INVITED BACK!!

Guest michneva

 I accidentally posted without finishing...

so anyway...I am trying to be reasonable as I said...but truth be told I am a snacker...so I hope that I am okay considering that I am paying more attention to making healthier choices and portion control....

Breakfast

Koala Crispies 2pts

Fat Free Lactaid milk 2pts

Dried plums 0pts

Snack

Kozy Shack Pudding by Request 1pt

Lunch

Thai Kitchen Soup 2pts.

Sugar Free Jello 0pts

Diet Coke 0pts.

Snack

Fat Free Pringles 3pts. ( 1pt. per serving)

WATER -32oz so far

Dinner will be...

Soft shell tacos 3pts. each ( not sure about this ....getting started book says fast food soft or hard taco is 3pts. each, so I assume if I use similar portions then it is the same, but I am not sure)

( made with Mission Corn Tortilla says gluten-free on package)

Desert will be ....

Skinny Cow Fudge Bar 2pts.

The remaining two points may be used by milk,or two cups strawberries, or maybe I'll have another taco and have pudding instead of the fudge bar...I don't know yet...

Oh, and I need to finish that water!

By the way I also was accepted to the other ww site and have been exploring!

If nothing else it is a great tool.

My question is should we start a new thread...e-mail...or just use the already established site....????

Maybe you have a low  intolerance to Wheat.   Rye, Barley and Malt are the gluten in Celiac disease.  It has always been stated Wheat and Gluten, not just a Wheat intolerance.  Barley will keep me in bed for (2) weeks.  Gut, Migrains, Brain fog, Diahrea.  It is miserable.  And when I was a toddler the doctor would give me a malt medicine because I always had Anemia and did not grow.  Boy was he off.  But at that time the US didn't know anyone about Celiac.  This was the 1940s and 50s.  I had my first episode at 9 months and did not get a diagnosis until I was 50.  My immune system was so shot before being diagnoised, so now I live with the consequences of it. I was so upset when Manufacturers didn't want to label their products so they added barley to the product.  It was mostly the cereal industry.  3 of my favorite cereals were excluded because of this. Malt gives me a bad Gut reaction.

Thanks much Scott.  Well said, and heeded.   I don't have Celiac, which is fortunate.

Do you have the results of your endoscopy? Did you do a celiac disease blood panel before that?  Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:
    • Scott Adams
It is odd that your Tissue Transglutaminase (TTG) IgA level has bounced from the "inconclusive" range (7.9, 9.8) down to a negative level (5.3), only to climb back up near the positive threshold. This inconsistency, coupled with your ongoing symptoms of malabsorption and specific nutrient deficiencies, is a strong clinical indicator that warrants a more thorough investigation than a simple "satisfactory" sign-off. A negative blood test does not definitively rule out celiac disease, especially with such variable numbers and a classic symptomatic picture. You are absolutely right to seek a second opinion and push for a referral to a gastroenterologist. A biopsy remains the gold standard for a reason, and advocating for one is the most direct path to getting the answers you need to finally address the root cause of your suffering. Here is more info about how to do a gluten challenge for a celiac disease blood panel, or for an endoscopy: and this recent study recommends 4-6 slices of wheat bread per day:

There is a distinction between gluten itself and the other chemicals and processing methods involved in modern food production. Your experience in Italy and Greece, contrasted with your reactions in the U.S., provides powerful anecdotal evidence that the problem, for some people, may not be the wheat, but the additives like potassium bromate and the industrial processing it undergoes here. The point about bromines displacing iodine and disrupting thyroid function is a significant one, explaining a potential biological mechanism for why such additives could cause systemic health issues that mimic gluten sensitivity. It's both alarming and insightful to consider that the very "watchdog" agencies meant to protect us are allowing practices banned in many other developed countries. Seeking out European flour and your caution about the high-carb, potentially diabeticgenic nature of many gluten-free products are excellent practical takeaways from your research, but I just want to mention--if you have celiac disease you need to avoid all wheat, including all wheat and gluten in Europe.
