Gluten Free Protein Shake Meal Replacement

I stumbled across this website and to my surprise they make gluten-free meal replacements and protein powders. The nice thing is you pick the ingredients so for example if your allergic to soy, you can tell them to leave it out. (this my understanding) I'm getting ready to order some to try it out. It would have been nice to have something like this back in college, it was hard to get the calories when I was playing basketball. More would have been healthier than eating a box of Pamela's cookies everyday after practice. :) Anyways hope this helps, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has been looking for something like this. If you can please post feedback if you try this, thanks.

I have always worked out with weights, played basketball among other things. I am 27 now and learned I have celiac about 6 months ago. I have dropped to 165lbs from normally 180-185lb with working out and muscle. Now with my diet restricted I am eager to find a protein powder or shake that I can take after workouts that is glutenfree. Let me know how it goes or if you come across any other and I will do the same.

I use the Biochem Raw foods and whey vanilla powder religiously after my workouts (I'll even mix up the night before for the early am workouts). It tastes great too. We have a health food store here (Portland) that has individual pkts of different brands so you can try them out for a dollar or so before you spend a fortune on the canisters. It was by far the best one I tried.

I believe Allmax is a brand available in Canada, and they are gluten free (Check individual flavors though to be sure-I am dying to try the peanut butter chocolate whey isolate!)

I also believe that True Protein ships to Canada. I use Beverly International, chocolate and vanilla flavors are gluten free, not Cookies N Creme.

Unfortunately, PVL Whey Gourmet products are NOT gluten free, at least as of when I emailed them about a year ago. They have some awesome sounding flavors.

For a straight protein I prefer Natural Edge Whey Protein Complete Blend. It's all natural, gluten and soy free and it's sweetened with Stevia. Stevia has such a small impact on blood sugars.

They have vanilla, chocolate and orange cream flavors.

For a meal replacement there is vanilla and chocolate meal replacement, as well as a Fat Burner meal replacement.

Great stuff.

      Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

      This is a solid, well-reasoned approach. You’re right that “koji” by itself doesn’t indicate gluten status, and the risk really does come down to which grain is used to culture it. The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
