Fairly New At This And Very Frustrated Right Now

About 2 months ago, thanks to process of elimination and an opened minded doctor, I discovered had celiac disease. I've not done any of the testing due to my doctor saying that it'll be a waste of money when it's very clear that I have it and me agreeing.

My health has improved greatly since I've stopped eating gluten, but on some days I just feel plain ol bad... like today!

Here are my symptoms:

Heartburn

Gastritis or Ulcer, although im thinking the first due to the cramping and pain going away once I release air (burp or pass it) :P

Depression

Anxiety

Moody and irate

Tingling in hands and feet. Used to be my whole body until I completely stopped eating gluten

Congestion! So badly congested :(

Cold

Here's my dilemma. Today I'm having one of the worst days I can remember having health wise in over 2 months.

I use a separate oven to cook my food, I've gotten rid of all of the allergens in my bathroom. I use Nature's Gate Deodorant, Tom's of Maine toothpaste, and none of my shampoo's have gluten.

As far as dietary goes, I still eat corn, dairy, soy, etc. The only thing that I have completely cut out is the gluten.

Like I said, today I feel really bad. Most of my symptoms are running rampant and I feel piss poor.

Here is what I ate yesterday. with whatever could cause a problem after.

2 pork sausages from whole foods - Natural Flavor - New to diet

A box of rice crispy snacks from envirokids, so about 6 bars - New to diet

2 servings of Corn puffs from envirokids - Corn - New to diet

A gluten free pizza from pizzafusion - Dairy

1 box of Mary's gone crackers - Safe

Rice milk labeled gluten free

The newest things I've added to my diet are the bars and cereal

Could it be that I need to drop the corn completely? I feel so bad today. :(

Anyways, like I said I'm fairly new at this and I need any advice that could help me recover that you guys could suggest.

Clearly I've continued to eat dairy and corn, so do I need to eliminate these from my diet?

What are the steps I need to take? What foods are totally safe?

I'm pale, people notice somethings wrong, I want to quit my 30 minute away job for something closer because I feel weak, etc.

I'm tired of my health holding me back from my true potential.

Thank you.

Just a quick response before others who are more familiar with the foods you listed jump in.

First of all, I would not recommend adding more than one new food at a time. When you add several new things at once and then feel awful, you have no idea what caused it.

Second, if the rice milk was Rice Dream, they can legally claim to be gluten free even though they really are not, because the amount of gluten the product contains is under the legal limit. But it is still there.

Many newly diagnosed people have to give up dairy until they heal because the villi in the intestines that digest dairy are what is destroyed by the body's reaction to gluten. You may be able to add dairy back in later.

Perhaps not all of your symptoms are caused by diet. You may just have a cold!

I think it's good to keep an open mind about multiple causes... maybe you DO have a cold, or you're intolerant to corn, dairy, etc... It takes time to figure these things out :(

My suggestion is to forget about the grains for a while and focus on whole, nourishing foods: fruit, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and a moderate amount of meat. Unless there were vegetables on your pizza, you didn't eat ANY fruits or vegetables yesterday! Your body is probably making a desperate plea for some real nutrition!! :o:ph34r: Celiac disease can cause malnutrition even when you're eating a perfectly healthy diet... don't make it worse by eating tons of heavily-processed grains. Even for a "normal" person, these foods are difficult to digest and don't have many nutrients.

I know some people get ill from pizza fusion, not all of this chain is gluten free savvy!

I agree if you are super sensitive adding more than one food a week isn't a good idea. plus you could be having a reaction to rice or corn or anything else that doesn't have anything to do with gluten. Many have other issues that crop up as an allergy.

Plus I find that sometimes I feel differently when I combine certain foods in one day. I can eat something by itself one day but when I eat it the next day with something else I get a tummy ache.

another thought , a box of Mary's Gone Crackers has flax seeds which means fiber .I'm not sure you meant to say you ate a whole box in a day?!?! If so it could be the fiber that your body hasn't adjusted to as yet. A whole box of rice crispy treats in one day?!?! That is alot of sweets for one day as well.

I guess everyone needs to find their own tolarance when it comes to food. Some are more sensitive than others.

I've never had an issue this side of the pond. If I'm out I drink Bulmers Cider. Sometimes draft and sometimes bottled. The draft cider lines are for Cider only.

Hi everyone do you know whether when you get a draft cider if there is a chance that it runs through the same tubing as a beer did sometime prior?  the reason I’m asking is that I’m trying to eliminate a source of hidden gluten that I think hits me about once a month. And I have a suspicion it might be cider from the draft at certain bars. When I am out, if I decide to drink, I usually order a cider brand that I know is gluten free.    what I’ve noticed is that a couple times when I got a draft cider, I got symptoms of being  glutened that night and the day after. This doesn’t seem to happen with all times I drink cider. I had a draft at a very clean brewery and I didn’t react from that, which is what made me start to wonder. Does anyone know if this is a possible source of getting glutened? I am like 99% sure that this is the cause and I think I’ll switch to bottle/can only from here on out, but would be interested if others experienced the same thing (or work in a bar and know how this works). Thanks!

Hello everyone, I am at struggling finding gluten-free food for my 17-year-old daughter who has celiac disease. she finds things that she thinks she would like she takes a bite and ends up in the trash gluten-free food happens to be very expensive. I collect Foodstamps and I contacted the county to see if I could get extra Foodstamps due to her, so the ex disease, considering the food cost more. I am running out of options. Most stores don’t carry gluten-free stuff and we spend majority of our time looking at the ingredients and get frustrated because everybody’s looking at us, wondering what we’re doing and what we’re looking for so I’m struggling as a mom to find the best options for my daughter that she would like, and I didn’t know that he could also affect her mental health she does get a check up every six months, but our biggest thing is getting her on a good vitamin one that the doctor can call in because we have insurance and just trying to find food that she could eat and not waste we waste almost $200 a month and just gluten-free food that she just throws in the trash or that to sit on the shelf and go to wasteso if you have any ideas, please feel free to contact me with any ideas

Hello, I am new to your forum. I was diagnosed with multiple food allergies including gluten, 20 years ago. I do not have celiac disease. I have been gluten free for over 15 years. My symptoms seem to be very different than others and my doctors have always been skeptical about my condition. When I would accidentally eat gluten, the inflammation would cause my GI system to stop- i.e severe constipation. This eventuality led to diverticulitis which, due to numerous factors, led to abscesses and removal of my sigmoid colon 3 years ago.  Biopsies were done and confirmed that I do not have celiac disease. I do have other autoimmune diseases- Hashimotos hypothyroiditis.  I remain gluten free for fear of damaging the remaining colon I have left. My question to this group is- am I alone in this odd scenario? Does anyone else have this condition? When I lived in Seattle, many naturopaths understood my symptoms and condition but after moving to Kentucky, I can find no one that seems to understand or even believe my condition exists. I sometimes feel like maybe I could eat gluten again because it is so hard to avoid it in this part of the country - choices are much more limited- but again, I am fearful of injuring my remaining, colon. Any insight from others who may have experienced similar symptoms is greatly appreciated since I am feeling vey alone in my crusade to stay healthy.    As an aside, while the sigmoid colon removal left me diverticulitis/diverticulosis free, it also left me with less muscle control, so I now take magnesium supplements (oxygenated magnesium oxides) to  maintain regular bowel function and avoid constipation. Thank you- I appreciate the kindness and support this group brings to people.

Thank you for the update @Rejoicephd it is good to know that you may have some answers.  Keep up the good work with your diet, and do let us know if you do get a firm diagnosis.  I took so long to feel better and for my TTG levels to normalise,  but got there in the end, so also bear in mind it does take longer for some of us.
