Adelaide Newbie

Hello. I am suer this has been covered many times, but if someone knowledgable could comment on this celiac panel I would greatly appreciate it.

RESULT REFERENCE RANGE UNITS OF MEASURE

GLIADIN AB IGA 31 (<20) KEU/L

GLIADIN AB IGG 5 (<20) '

T-TRANSG'MASE AB 32 (<20) '

Interpretation - POSITIVE FINDINGS OF IGA ENDOMMYSIAL ANTIBODIES (IGA TRANSGLUTAMASE) ARE ESSENTIALLY DIAGNOSTIC OF CELIAC DISEASE OR DERMATITIS HEPETIFOMIS

Of course I understand what this says, I am more looking for comments on the validity of these specific tests.

Thanks for any and all comments.

Hello and welcome!

if you look around the forum (search "blood test + results") you'll see that it's generally accepted that there is a high probability for a false negative in blood tests but a very low occurrence of false positives.

Yep--false positives are rare. Welcome :)

Let us know if you need any help navigating the diet.

Thanks. So just to simplify with those results is there a 95 or 97% chance that I do have Celiac? I am a numbers person and from what I have been able to surmise there seems to be somewhere in the range of a 95+%chance that I have it. Would you agree?

Thanks

I would say there is 100 percent chance that you will benefit from a gluten-free diet! Welcome!

I agree with the others. You should get onto the diet.

Thank you. I must have misinterpreted a study or something. Thank you for the clarification. Much appreciated. Almost three years into my celiac diagnosis and I'm still learning new things.

I wasn’t clear, glucagon and gadolinium were intravenous. I drank about 5 cups of the prep during 45 minutes. I feel very tired now, probably partly because I was nervous, and partly because I had to fast for 6 hours beforehand and wasn’t very hungry when I got home.

That seems at lot of solution to have put threw you when you already have bowel issues , I will phone them tomorrow because it's sorbitol I have reactions too, thankyou for the input how do you feel now ? I'm not sure I can keep still for that long with my back issues either unfortunately I didn't know it could take that long 😕

The solution I had to drink contained sorbitol and mannitol. I was in the MRI, lying on my back, for about 40 minutes. I was given glucagon partway through, and a gadolinium contrast agent. After I got home there was some diarrhea from the prep solution.
