Paroxetine Hydrochloride (paxil) & Gluten

I've just started this new medication and have reached a dead end in finding out if it contains gluten. It is manufactured by CarilaHealthcare, Ltd. in India (they don't list this med on their website and their e-mail address is no good.

It's packaged by International Labs in St. Petersburg, Fl, but they only package it after its manufactured.

Anyone know?

Tell me if I'm wrong, MommaGoose--this site says that Paxil (the name brand) is gluten-free as is Paroxetine made by Apotex. Now, I'm not taking the name brand and my generic is made by Cadila (as my previous post said) in India. Wouldn't that be a different drug and therefore I still don't know??

Please tell me I'm wrong as that would make it a lot easier.

Please, if you haven't looked into the risks of Paxil, please look into them. I have known two people who went through a terrible withdrawal trying to get off it. There are other medications that are not so dangerous. :)

I'm not MG, but you're right. Just because a name brand drug is gluten-free, it doesn't necessarily follow that any generics will be also. Each should be checked.

I tried to find out some info for you, but that company is very difficult to get contact information for. Can you phone the pharmacist where you purchased your prescription and ask them if they have an 800 number or a better email address for them? I've always been able to get this info from the pharmacist.

Thanks, gals, I shall check with my Wal-Mart pharmacist where I got it. This pill was manufactured in India, packaged in Florida by a different outfit, and distributed by Wal-Mart. Scary, ain't it?

Thanks so much, Rinne, for your concern. I wonder if the people you knew who withdrew from Paxil did it gradually (like you're supposed to) or tried to do it cold turkey? None of these meds should ever be stopped abruptly, but I shall heed your advice and keep an eye on things.

It sure is! Please let us know how you do.

I use a Wal Mart pharmacy and they have always been most helpful to me for checking out the gluten-free status of meds. Hope they can help you out with this. :)

Also be on the lookout for unusual side effects and ideation. There have been folks who have had psychotic episodes while on the drug and it can increase the impluse to harm ones self. Not saying this will happen to you but for my family this drug was a nightmare in a bottle and almost cost me one of my children. Use caution.

I did check with a Wal-Mart pharmacist. Evidently, they were able to get to a database that I couldn't get to and told me that this particular generic did not contain gluten. Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

Sorry to go of topic but thought I'd throw this at the end incase anyone would like to hear my 5 cents.

I've been on Paxil, Welbutrin and effexor (generic and brand-name). Don't know about gluten contents for any of them but... if you, anyone else wants more deets about the differences in side effects, withdrawal, and what side effects last after drug is removed and for how long I can give you my experiences. You probably know this, but everyone's sensitivity is different. I am one of the sensitive types, although I don't have a ponytail. Me and two of my friends were all put on some of the same drugs about the same time.

I just called Zydus about their generic paroxetine. Over the phone, they said it is gluten free.

I about lost my mind going off Effexor. I had to buy empty capsules from the health food store and I was counting the little beads for weeks and weeks tapering the dose. Every time I tried to stop I was getting "brain zaps". Ugh. I think I could finally quit when I got down to three little beads in the capsule. :blink:

And yeah, SSRIs are brutal if you're on them for a long time.

      Please read the original post--they are looking for a gluten and milk-free treat to replace Tootsie Rolls for their child who loves Tootsie Rolls, but can no longer have them due to a dairy issue--they are not looking for M&M's.

      I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets...

Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver.After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.
