Oops. Mixed Up Doritos

Man, what was I thinking! I goofed and ate Doritos Nacho Cheese. A friend offered them to me, and I was so hungry I forgot it was not the Nacho Cheese, but Cool Ranch and a few of the other Doritos flavors that are gluten-free. My dd with celiac had them also! That was Wednesday. Then Friday afternoon I was eating more Doritos Nacho Cheese from the leftovers she gave me and happened to flip the bag over to see the word "Wheat" glaring at me. What! How could I have been so careless; I'm usually so careful! Did Doritos Nacho Cheese used to be gluten-free?

Now it's Saturday, and my stomach is in knots; I've been exiled to another room in the house due to the noxious fumes escaping from my body. I dread how my dd will feel! I usually have reactions faster than this. I ate from Chili's gluten-free menu today, and I don't think that was the problem. I've never had a problem with Chili's gluten-free menu. Does it sometimes take one day or more to start having noticeable reactions? Anyway, I'm dreading what the next few weeks will bring! I guess it's time to rest up.

I'm so sorry about the Doritos. I hope that you get through this with lighter symptoms. I'll be joining you. I've got that old familiar feeling again after eating at a friend's house. How is your little girl feeling?

My daughter's doing okay. She didn't eat many Doritos. In fact, I ate my serving Friday and most of hers. Thank goodness it was me rather than her!

Thank you for posting this! I'm new to the disease/intolerance (haven't exactly figured it out yet) and I remember a friend telling me Doritos were okay (she has 3 kids with Celiacs). So, on a binge I grabbed a small bag at the gas station this afternoon and scarfed em down without even bothering to look at the ingredients . Then, as I'm down to the crumbs I decide to take a look, mostly just out of habit now (although I need to make it more of a habit to look BEFORE I indulge) and that darn word "WHEAT" just jumps right out at me. Incidentally, a half hour later the darn chips are causing pain, nausea, and fatigue...I am miserable and at work for another 4.5 hours and then have to go to a second job at 6:00

Sorry..just had to get that off my chest. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who has made that mistake...

Yeah way back when I started, I remember being told Doritos were safe as well. So I went to a vending machine once, optimistically bought some...and then, since I usually like triple-checking always, noticed the "wheat" thing. And then I think I just left them in the machine. <_< Waste of money.

Not sure where the "Doritos are safe" myth comes from...unless, like you said, because some flavors ARE safe (which I was unaware of).

Dorito's "Cool Ranch" flavor is gluten free last time I checked just aa few months ago. However the "Nacho Cheese" flaor is not. Some other flavors are in fact gluten free as well. I have a list from Frito-Lay which I printed off their website to keep on hand of their gluten free snacks. Just copy and paste the link below or go to their website most likely under allergens. I wish they would make the nacho cheese flavor gluten-free since it is my son's favorite and only kind he will it. Thank goodness for Cheetoe and Cheesepuffs!!

And oh, anyone with kids looking for a GREAT nutritious snack bar that is gluten free and actually tastes GREAT, Try "CanDoKid Bars", they actually taste like a candy bar with 9 grams of protein, free of high fructose corn syrup and 70% organic. I had a hard time finding a bar my child would eat. These are great, my hubby and I eat them!

Your response on this matter is what I expect. You’ve had a similar episode years ago, but this one is lasting longer!

I'd like to clarify: Is the pain you describe in the area just below your chest constant, or does it only appear when you start moving?
