Do I have to worry that my gelatin capsules might have glutin in them?

Also, what is the deal with cross contamination? When the item is glutin free but made in a facility that also produces wheat products, how likely is it that the produce would be contaminated?

Also, is soy milk or rice milk a problem?

Thanks!!

Hi Fritz,

Do I have to worry that my gelatin capsules might have glutin in them?

You need to check the ingredients on medicines. Probably your gelatin capsules are ok, but this is a general statement and is only good for generalities. In your specific case, you will need to check the item you are using. You could contact the manufacturer and see what they say. Or try a search on this board to see if other people have found out about the product.

Cross contamination is variable. I got some plaintain chips a few months ago and had no problems with them. A couple weeks ago I ate the same brand plaintain chips and got sick. So it is kind of risky each time. Some manufactures take extra care to prevent cc, and you might find that stated on the package.

Also, is soy milk or rice milk a problem?

I haven't tried Rice Dream milk in a long time, since it made me sick. There are other brands available that you can try though. Soy bothers some people. Personally I avoid it, after reading up on it on the web. But I don't have an intolerance reaction to it. I just don't think it is good for people.

Thank for the input. This all so complicated!

Hi Fritz,

Yes, it does seem complicated at first. That's why it is helpful to simplify your diet to begin. Eating foods you cook yourself at home from whole ingredients, like potatoes, rice, peas, beans, carrots etc, with some chicken or other meat. Not eating pre-packaged meals and boxed foods can save a lot of time on reading ingredients lists. Whole foods don't have ingredients to worry about.

Some of us have problems with dairy also, so you might want to consider removing it if you continue to have reactions after going gluten-free for awhile and can't figure out why. If dairy doesn't bother you though there is no reason to eliminate it.

Don't worry, it takes time and is a learning process just like learning anything else. There are lots of people here to help with questions, and you can find many questions already answered by reviewing the forums or searching on items you want to know about. I am still learning things after a year and a half.

I have the same questions??? I have been gluten-free for almost 4 weeks. Last night I made rice pasta organic sauce and Maglio broccollirabe sausage...stomach pains bloating this am. I couldn't determine the culprit...oh and red wine.

Any clue???

I noticed eating gluten-free or CGF foods have higher sugar and sodium some. No added sugar protein bars I found better with plant fiber. I wanted to know what are you go to besides whole fruits/veggies that you find are healthy for you where you can feel eating normal without hurting yourself or health. I was looking into subscription based like Thrift to see if there is something that is healthier CGF that can make me feel normal. Thanks

Thankyou because I met up with K B with well known bay area hospital once and she said she knows I don't like to take meds, I said thats incorrect, I have issues.Thats the one that said I was deemed " unruly " when she admitted I was celiac when I asked why am I going through this.

Cristiana, that sounds like a great approach and I will be looking forward to the results. I am in the same boat as you. I don't experience overt symptoms with minor, cross contamination level exposures so I sometimes will indulge in those "processed on equipment that also processes wheat . . ." or items that don't specifically claim to be gluten free but do not list gluten containing grains in their ingredient list. But I always wonder if I am still experiencing sub acute inflammatory reactions. I haven't had any celiac antibody blood work done since my diagnosis almost 25 years ago so I don't really have any data to go by.
