Cold Meds

Does anyone have recommendations for good cough syrup, throat drops, cold medicine, etc that are gluten free?

I usually use Drixoral or Halls Echinacea cough drops, nasonex spray, robitussin or Nyquil when I'm sick and I'm wondering if they are gluten-free. I can call the companies but I figured I'd ask since some of you might already know just off the top of your head.

Also, any suggestions for other meds that you think are better for colds would be great!

thanks, Jennifer

These are the three lists that I have printed out for gluten-free medications. You can check to see if the meds you normally take are gluten-free, and see which ones are. Still check ingredients on over the counter stuff, and if you have a reaction to a medication make a note of that on the list, so you can avoid it next time. I also try to stick with the meds that are on at least two of the lists. Remember that there aren't any lists out there that are 100% accurate, just general guidelines. These lists also have many of hte company phone numbers, so you can call the verify yourself.

We mainly use Dimetapp for our family. it is the only one the kids will take and it is gluten-free. They have cough and cold formulas too.

Robitussin is also gluten-free.

God bless,

I have used Robitussin without a problem. Hope that helps.

I eat sugar free halls and drink TONS of orange juice for colds. I find that lots of fruit juice really helps, for me anyway... I also take lots of vitamins.

I believe that only the sugar free halls are gluten free (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

That's so funny Molly. My kids only like the Robitussin honey lemon cough drops. They only use the cherry flavor when we run out!

I wish we had a walgreens near me. I haven't seen one in so long I forgot they even exist. How do you get their gluten-free list? I could maybe find one in a town we occasionally visit, and then I could stock up on our regularly used meds. I could save a little money that way...

God bless,

Mariann

I asked my cardiologist about stopping vitamins.  He said his tests account for all detectable vitamins from sources other than food.  I only need to stop them for a couple of days.  He has me keep records of meds and vitamins I've ingested over the past 10 days and prior and he does his calculations.

Reply to treats I try and eat to bring up the glucose. Sometime I get up 3 times a night and eat something. I don't think food is the issue. A lot of the food they say should help doesn't.  Many mornings my level is 59 and I feel sick, sometimes for hours. It has been recommended I go to an Endocrinologist.

Many years ago yes, after eating and going to bed, apparently my esophagus filled with food that my body rejected, the esophagus would lay against the Heart sack (pericardium?) and the heart would respond by becoming arrhythmic. That went away with the strict diet.

I was commenting on the report saying it did not mention migraines! Yes it does last paragraph says have not seen any evidence that Celiac cause migraines! I thought this was about truth?
