How about MSG? Does that bother you?

hannahp57 Contributor

Could definitely be msg. it is often added to chicken. msg makes me sick. it gives me stomach cramps, indigestion, headache, fatigue and a fuzzy feeling. it usually only last a couple hours because i never ingest very much at a time

VERY unlikely that it was gluten.

What is the likelihood that gluten would be in chicken? Especially at a restaurant? Just curious -- thanks! :)

Do not they use wheat to make things weigh more? Resturant meat is not always the highest grade. JMO

they have a list of gluten free meats on internet....do I have to question all these list, they are not all safe I presume.

Plain chicken from a store -- virtually no chance it will have gluten.

Seasoned chicken from a store -- you ALWAYS must check.

Seasoned chicken from a restaurant -- you ALWAYS have to check. Some do and some don't. When KFC came out with a grilled chicken many of us thought we might have something to eat there. Nope. Spices or marinade have wheat.

I would think adding wheat, which is one of the eight main allergens and not disclosing that fact, would be, in the least, against the law.

If you have supportive documentation of this, please post it.

Thank you, thank you!

And as I am new at this, are other meats risky as well? If unseasoned -- fish, steak, beef, turkey, etc? Just curious. Thanks much!!

Hello, I was very stick,  with flu like symptoms, but my virus panel came back negative and we couldn’t figure out what’s going on. The doctor then added a celiac panel.  Has anyone ever had such a dramatic change?  What are the odds this is true celiac I am going to have an endoscopy, but it’s expensive and I just feel like why can’t the labs be enough?

Eating out in general is full of risks, but this article may help:

This kind of question is always difficult to give a definitive answer to because of so many variables. One such variable is the sensitivity of the individual celiac to small amounts of gluten cross contamination. An amount that causes a reaction in one celiac many not in another, or at least not be discernable which, of course, does not exactly equate to being "safe".

I don't live in the US, but based on this thread, I wouldn't risk it:   https://www.reddit.com/r/glutenfree/comments/1n2ehw8/cracker_barrel/   This app is helpful: https://www.findmeglutenfree.com/

I see that Cracker Barrel restaurants have a gluten free menu (not all locations, but one confirmed that they do). I was wondering if it is safe for my 5 year old son with celiac disease?
