Finally Got Diagnosis For My Bladder Issues

I went over the symptoms with my OBGYN and he diagnosed me with Interstitial Cystitis. I am on medicaid and they won't pay for the test or the medication needed so he diagnosed me based on symptoms. I have to follow yet another strict diet. I can't have anything high in acid, any preservatives, nitrates, or artificial colors. It seems pretty similar to gluten free with added restrictions on fruits and other foods. Can anyone help me with what I can eat?? I am going shopping in a few days. I am wondering about tomatoes. On the sheet the doctor gave me it says I can have homegrown tomatoes but not storebought. Can I have organic???

This is a great source. This was posted in 2006, but I assume the diet is still appropriate:

So glad that you've found out what the problem is. Hope these changes will relieve you of your discomfort.

That is a good list, but I was looking for more in the area of brands for bottled water that are pH neutral, cereals that are both preservative free and free of any artifical ingredients that are also gluten free, deli meat brands with same requirements, and candy with same requirements. I cannot have chocolate or coffee either.

Were you already gluten free previous to this diagnosis of IC? Could the IC be from sneaky gluten?

We have a family member who was diagnosed with IC and after reading the post written by Ravenwoodglass on the subject she went gluten free and all the IC stuff went away. She has tested it twice (chicken McNuggets and pizza) and yep it was just the gluten. She didn't have to worry about the acid stuff as long as she was really careful about gluten (she lives with me, eats what I cook).

No one else in my house is gluten free so I cook my own food. I sometimes don't eat cause there is nothing in the house for me to eat so I highly doubt the IC is due to gluten issues.

Are you being really careful about cross contamination both in processed foods and in the home? I know when I feel really stressed or tired I have a tendency to eat more processed and thus more risky foods. I used to grab Amy's stuff a lot but my store now carries the Glutino frozen entrees and they don't seem to have the CC issues Amy's does. I don't know what your other restrictions are but I really like the chicken alfredo and the mac and cheese. I try hard to keep them on hand for days when cooking is physically or mentally out of the question. You would be surprised how little gluten can keep some issues going. It seems sometimes the antibodies don't care whether we have a crumb or a gobs of the stuff the reaction is the same.

This treatment looks promising. Its aim is to provoke immune tolerance of gluten, possibly curing the disease. It passed the phase 2 trial with flying colours, and I came across a post on Reddit by one of the study volunteers. Apparently, the results were good enough that the company is applying for fast track approval.  Anokion Announces Positive Symptom Data from its Phase 2 Trial Evaluating KAN-101 for the Treatment of Celiac Disease https://www.reddit.com/r/Celiac/comments/1krx2wh/kan_101_trial_put_on_hold/

BTW, we've done other articles on this topic that I wanted to share here (not to condone smoking!):

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.
