Hi I was wondering if anyone knew of any good nutritionists in the Ann Arbor, MI area. The first nutritionist was of no help as the handouts she gave me were not up to date and she could not help me figure out what I should be eating. I have now moved and am finding myself eating less and less foods as I end up getting overwhelmed when I go shopping. I need someone who can help me figure out what I can eat that will provide me with the nutrients I need. If you know of anyone that would be great. Thanks.

Have you tried contacting the University? I spoke with a Endocrinologist the other night for two hours and she helped me immensely.......with education about celiac. She's from the U. If you haven't found anyone I could ask her who she recommends. If you want me to, email me....mlowler@bairdandlowler.com

Happy to help.!

I'm at Eastern so I have to go through their system. I was hoping I could get a name that they could refer me to as I don't know what their nutritionist knows (I assume they have one). But I do know that Us medical center is not in-network for Eastern's insurance. I just don't want to have to make multiple appointments at the health center to get it all worked out. (I hate going to the doctor).

Do you consume dairy? Have you recently had an infection or cold? Do you have digestive symptoms?   Do you eat processed gluten free foods? What is your Vitamin D level?

@lizzie42, How are your daughter's bowel movements?  Does she have gas, diarrhea or constipation?  Does her squeezing feeling move around in her abdomen or is it consistently in one spot?  Is she dehydrated? How much fruit does she eat?  Fruit juices? I'd recommend cutting out the cheese for a while, till you get it sorted.

If you're more comfortable starting slow, that's fine, but do increase your dose to 500 mg per day as quickly as possible.  The World Health Organization recommends 500 mg thiamine HCl per day when deficiency is suspected.  Dr. Lonsdale had researched high dose thiamine for decades, and he has used higher doses, 1 to 3 grams in some cases.   Like I explained above, it's at that 500 mg level or higher that passive diffusion happens and thiamine can get into cells.  Inside the cells, thiamine turns the mitochondria back on.  Mitochondria produce energy the cells use to function.  I had been taking a multivitamin containing thiamine HCl regularly and still had become deficient.  Malabsorption of celiac disease really affects vitamin absorption.  I bought a bottle of thiamine HCl.  I was skeptical, too. I thought it couldn't be that easy.  I took 500 mg all at once.  I had improvement within minutes.  I couldn't believe the sensation of energy spreading to all parts of my body.  My brain felt like it was lifted out of a sub-sub-basement by an elevator and lights were coming on, floor by floor, of a skyscraper.  It was mental improvement, mental clarity.  Thiamine is needed for nerves to transmit electrical impulses, so the more nerves transmitting electrical impulses, the more my brain started working better.  The better my brain started working, the better I felt physically.  My muscles had more energy.  I wanted to get up and do stuff.   P.S. Questions are welcome.  "there's no poverty like ignorance, no wealth like knowledge". Keep learning!
