My oldest is going into 6th grade. He will be 11 in October. I would like to get him interested in posting here, so he could talk about how he is feeling about the diet, issues at school, etc. but so far no luck. The only other person he knows in "real life" that is gluten intolerant besides his family, is a girl who is also 10 and my friend's daughter. He can't stand to be around her. She annoys him so badly and they fight everytime they are near each other. They actually got into a physical fight on the playground (she grqabbed his shirt and pinched him hard on the back, so he kicked her in the back) and they were told not to play near each other for the rest of the year! LOL, it was two weeks before summer vacation! Certainly they don't confide in each other about how they feel about the diet. I just feel like it is important for him to have other people in the same situation who can understand how he is feeling. It just doesn't seem to be important to him right now.

God bless,

Mariann

Hi gf4life, I can't seem to find anybody on this board my same age. I am going into 6th grade as well and am going gluten-free. Maybe your son and me could PM each other, that way he'd might feel more comfortable :)

Thank you all for welcoming me to the teen boards. I guess I have alot to learn about the gluten-free diet.

I asked him and he sayed, "maybe". He is thinking about it. I'll let you know what he decides (or he will). :) He liked your Avatar though. He thought it was cool!

He can e-mail me if he wants to. There's a bit of an age difference, but not too much and I'd be happy to talk...no pressure, though, it's fine if he'd rather not. :)

Thanks celiac3270. I'll let him know.

I talked to my daughter and she will soon be posting, or at least reading your posts, in this section. I just wanted to make sure it was permitted, since she is not a teenager. I am concerned that some topics might not be appropriate because I do know that sometimes topics veer off course. Not that I think there is going to be anything bad, just not appropriate for an 11 year old. I will monitor her though. I know she will enjoy hearing from other celiacs in the same (general) age group because, as I stated previously, she does not have anyone her age to talk about celiac disease with. She is not too computer savy though, so please go easy on her (haha). She will probably have a name like surfgirl or something so watch out for her!! Thanks! :P

She can absolutely post here and we'll keep an eye out :);) .

Hey, Ben, are you Mariann's son or are you a different Ben?

Yep...those avatars  ...I started with the waterfall a few weeks after I got here. A few weeks later I changed waterfalls. After a few months, I gave up on trying to find a cute, funny, or interesting avatar.... oh well, I figure that at least people know if they see a waterfall, it's probably me. With some of them, I just see the picture and I don't need to read the name...

Feel free to e-mail me! (that applies to you and anyone else)

Teku is the name of a racing team created by HotWheels and their Acceleracers movies. First I got a HotWheels toy called a hyperpod. It came with a DVD and I watched it. It was a prequel and teku was not in it. My brother got episode 1 and teku was in it. Then we got episodes 2 and 3. Which is 1 movie when you watch them together. I like teku out of 4 teams because they have the coolest cars. That weird symbol is the teku's symbol. My brother wants me to put the ninja so I will.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.

Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.

Hi all  I was diagnosed Coeliac a few years ago and follow a gluten free diet. The list of foods that I can eat without a problem grows shorter on a weekly basis. [I also have diabetes and asthma also].  BUT the reason I am posting this is because I seem to struggle with nausea quite a lot, which is really quite debilitating, and I was wondering if others suffer from nausea, even if following a gluten free diet.

@fatjacksonthecat I have been doing some digging about the topic of nicotine and celiac.  I came across many studies that showed that the nicotine patch helped many with long covid and chronic fatigue syndrome.  I have a son who was diagnosed with celiac and his symptoms are severe when he is glutened.  He shows a lot of neurological inflammation and suffered with fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety and insomnia. There have been studies revealing that nicotine smoke actually masking celiac symptoms.  I also read that microdosing with a nictoine patch prevents one from addiction.  We are currently trying this out and so far it has lifted the brain fog and helped with anxiety and mood.  One of the studies I have read showed that it's not so much the dose, but the length of time a person is on the patch that showed improvements.  Many showed significant improvement as early as week 3 and continued through week 12.  We are taking 3 day breaks in between to make sure we don't down regulate the nicotine receptors.   How have things been for you?  Are you still chewing nicotine gum?  Perhaps, try the patch?  And how long did it take to ease up on your symptoms when glutened?
