Inin Need Of A Current Gluten Free Product List (Canada)

Hi there I am very new at this and am wondering if there is an up to date gluten free product list. I found one on here from 2004, but I am sure things can change. It would be handy to print off a list to take to the grocery store. Are there certain brands that are better than others at not hiding gluten in products and displaying it on labels? Are there certain brands that I should stay away from even if it does not list gluten in the products? How do you know what companies are using the same equipment to produce foods with gluten as to produce foods that are not containing gluten? Any specific companies to avoid- even if they don't list gluten on the package but are cross-contaminating? Also can anyone recommend gluten free mixed nuts as well as almonds.We use presidents choice organic peanut butter, I am not sure if this is gluten free. Can anyone recommend a peanut butter? Is vh soya sauce ok? Also any recommendations for shampoo and bodywash. One last question what spice brand is gluten free? Ok I lied does anyone know if Montreal steak spice is ok? We are lucky to have Knickknick here in Edmonton but it would be nice and save some money to be able to shop at the grocery store as well and be confident I am choosing gluten free products for our son. Any suggestions are much appreciated. I feel quite overwhelmed and this forum is really great. I just want my two year old to feel better and I want to make sure I am making sure to eliminate all of the gluten from his diet. Thank-you, Mya

Kraft and ConAgra will list wheat and maybe gluten on their allergy statement.

I posted about peanut butter in your bacon post so look there.

I buy plain nuts from Superstore or Costco and make my own mixes. I freeze them if the bags are too big.

VH soya sauce is gluten-free. Also, Braggs from Planet Organic is gluten-free.

Not sure about Montreal steak spice. I stick to McCormicks in the small glass jars with the green labels since they are all gluten-free. They are expensive but I don't like to get sick and small amounts of spices stay fresh.

If you are in Edmonton, it's great because you can shop right at the Kinnikinnick factory which is slightly cheaper. I miss that.

When I lived in Edmonton I went to Save-On Foods, Sobeys, Superstore, Costco, Safeway and Planet Organic. I looked for the sales especially on things gluten-free pastas and things like that. I bought large bags of plain rice either at Superstore in the Asian aisle or at Costco. If you eat deli-meat then prepackaged Freybe is safe. The Strathcona Farmers market is awesome. Sunworks Farms is owned by a celiac family and they are certified organic and humanely operated. Their sausages are all gluten-free. I love Sunworks!

It's very overwhelming at first but it does get easier with time. You are lucky to be in Edmonton; it is a very easy place to be gluten-free. Join the celiac association of canada and the Edmonton chapter. They will send you a beginners package with a booklet to take to the grocery stores (like a little gluten-free dictionary) and other great info.

ConAgra -- be careful. I had a VH Teryaki Sauce that looked safe but I called just in case and sure enough the VINEGAR I questioned them about was Malt Vinegar!! They don't always state a gluten ingredient. This right after the lady tells me that they will list all glutened ingredients on their labels. It angers me that companies can't just say what kind of vinegar are in their products right on the label! It would save us so many phone calls.

OP - Uniliver will list a gluten containing grain. Also, see their website. They have a list of no gluten added products -- you can refer to it for your question re: body lotions, shampoos, etc

      Rectal pain

      When I have had what I think are episodes of this (I've never had a formal diagnosis for PF) it seems to be triggered by bloating caused by something I've eaten - a friend had an episode of this after eating too many apples, for me corn and rice cakes seemed to give me IBS and trigger this. I am not a medical person but it seemed like the extra pressure...

And using their organic products has been helpful. and yet you are not able to work enough to support yourself when, if you were healtht, you could work for another 20 years.       Thank you for all the excellent information. I moved from Wyoming to California. May be its where I am located but So far none of the Costco Kirkland brand I have looked at is labeled gluten free. Same with the Sam's Members Mark. The Kirkland nuts you mention all say they are processed in a plant that processes wheat. I am going to keep checking. Thank...

      When I have had what I think are episodes of this (I've never had a formal diagnosis for PF) it seems to be triggered by bloating caused by something I've eaten - a friend had an episode of this after eating too many apples, for me corn and rice cakes seemed to give me IBS and trigger this.  I am not a medical person but it seemed like the extra pressure down there perhaps added pressure to already sensitised pelvic and rectal muscles. Coeliacs can suffer from bloating when they are first diagnosed due to the inability to digest food properly.  Lactose for me caused a lot of bloating and when I came off it temporarily after diagnosis it helped reduce bloating.  Iron supplements and the timing of taking them also caused discomfort and I had to experiment a bit with type and timing before my gut felt comfortable.   Maybe something to think about?   Some coeliacs suffer from constipation - again, just a thought, but perhaps if you had issues with that it might be a contributor.

      Hi jmartes, I brought up doTerra's website and see that they do have many supplements, offer  support and help. And using their organic products has been helpful. and yet you are not able to work enough to support yourself when, if you were healtht, you could work for another 20 years. It does not seem that they offer a program to follow and instead are offering supplements for your symptoms. This has helped you but you are not able to work very much.  The Programs I have seen  online usually have 3 parts. The first is a Parasite cleanse. The 2nd is the Kidney cleanse and the  3rd is a Liver cleanse and gallbladder cleanse. You need to doall these cleanses to have your whole body functioning well. I can only reccommend the program I gave you because that is the one I used and still do. (drclark.net)  When I see a newprovider and tell I have Celiacs and they look skeptical I tell them that when I am gluttoned the reaction happens 8 or more hours later with intestinal painful cramping followed by diarrhea. Providers are willing to accept tha I probably have Celiacs and are more likely order tests such as vitamin levels. Is this what happens if you eat only a small amount of Gluten? You mentioned going to Mayors. 20 years ago many Dr.s wanted to include a celiac screening as a standard test so that more people eould diagnosed and not become disabled. It did not happen but the Federal levgislature did pass a law so that Celiacs could claim deductions for the gluten free food they bought. What were you going to ask the Mayors to do?
