Hello!

Im traveling Icelandair in a few weeks and since I chose to have the rock bottom cheap tickets, they dont come with a meal like they usually do when flying to Europe. Has anyone got any suggestions for items to take on board for dinner/breakfast. Im worried about the liquid issue, because Id would like to bring some of those Allergaroo spaghetti pouches or something with me, or at least a jar of peanut butter/almond butter to go along with my bread that Im bringing..

Please suggest anything and everything that you may have found useful!

Thanks!

Haley

If you can have cheese, they have individually wrapped pieces at Costco & I saw some at the grocery. I took corncakes, cheese, deli meat & baby spinach & made little sandwiches. Might get a letter from a doctor incase you get trouble about the food. There are Lara Bars, Kind bars, & different gluten-free granola type bars. I also, took little packs of nuts, dried fruits, crackers. Not international travel though.

Hi Haley:

I usually do the cheapo tickets on Icelandair with no meal.

After my last experience with my beloved Icelandair, I am now ready to fly direct so I booked with Virgin.

Anyhoo .... yes, there are no meal of the IA flight if you book into economy.

Here is the menu that is given on their site:

There **used** to be a sushi option but now that's gone and the chicken breast is only available from Keflavik to the US or Canada. The chicken breast looks gluten-free but you might want to call. As for Keflavik to European destinations you are out of luck.

This is what I would do: call Icelandair, ask to speak to someone in customer service with regard to the meals.

If you can do the chicken breast then you could at least eat after your layover was done. There are a few eateries in the main terminal and there are salad options and even sushi options. So you could eat in the terminal and possibly get an extra salad for the trip to Europe. Sometimes you have to go through customs from the main terminal to the ground floor gates.

I think there is a way around this.

But if you can manage the chicken (leave off the dressing which will be in a packet and avoid the roll they give you, if they give you a roll, or just don't take the roll, as it won't be in the package ... that would be a good question to ask), then from North American to Iceland you are fine and then if you can carry a salad from Iceland to Europe that could be okay.

But call them first and ask them questions.

The general information number is 1-800-223-5500 prompt no. 2.

It's not because of the airline that I stopped flying them. I've been travelling to Europe via IA for about 15 years now. But I just want a direct flight now instead of having a long layover in Iceland now.

If I can be of any more help, please let me know.

And please let me know if they are able to help you out.

I want to know what happens.

~Allison

Yes, I, too, have osteoporosis from years of malabsorption, too.  Thiamine and magnesium are what keep the calcium in place in the bones.  If one is low in magnesium, boron, selenium, zinc, copper, and other trace minerals, ones bone heath can suffer.  We need more than just calcium and Vitamin D for strong bones.  Riboflavin B 2, Folate B 9 and Pyridoxine B 6 also contribute to bone formation and strength.   Have you had your thyroid checked?  The thyroid is important to bone health as well.  The thyroid uses lots of thiamine, so a poorly functioning thyroid will affect bone heath.

That sounds so very likely in my case! I will absolutely ask my doctor on my next bone check coming up in March... Thanks a lot!

Calcium levels as measured in the blood can be quite deceiving as the body will rob calcium from the bones to meet demands for it by other bodily functions. Also, supplementing with calcium can be counterproductive as it tends to raise gut pH and decrease absorption. More often than not, the problem is poor absorption to begin with rather than deficiency of intake amounts in the diet. Calcium needs an acidic environment to be absorbed. This is why so many people on PPIs develop osteoporosis. The PPIs raise gut pH. And some people have high gut PH for other reasons. Low pH equates to a more acidic environment whereas high pH equates to a more basic (less acidic) environment.

Kind thanks for all this valuable information! Since my Folate was/is low and also my Calcium, there IS a chance I am low in B vitamins... My doctor only measured the first two, oh and Zinc as I has twisted her arm and guess what, that was mega low too. So who knows, until I get myself tested properly, what else I am deficient in... I did a hair mineral test recently and it said to avoid All sources of Calcium. But this is confusing for me as my Ca is so low and I have osteoporosis because of this. It is my Adjusted Ca that is on the higher side and shouldn't be. So am not sure why the mineral test showed high Ca (well, it was medium in the test but relative to my lowish Magnesium, also via hair sample, it was high I was told). But anyway, thanks again for the VitB download, I will look into this most certainly!

Hello good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone has ever brought their anti-allergy pills? I have been wanting to use their Cetirizine HCI 10mg. They are called HealthA2Z and distributed by Allegiant Health.I’m also Asthmatic and these allergies are terrible for me but I also want to be sure they don’t have any sort of gluten compound.    I have tried calling them but to no avail. Has anyone ever used them? If so, did you had any problems or no problems at all?    thank you
