My boyfriend just got diagnosed with celiac disease about 1 month ago, so we are still getting used to everything. I was curious to what others see or what types of reactions people are having when they accidentally eat something with gluten in it. I am just wondering what the normal reactions are, although I know they do vary from every person. One thing I have noticed with my boyfriend when he has reactions is that he of course has terrible stomach aches, sometimes vomiting occurs, headaches, and one of the main reactions is that he has trouble breathing. Sometimes theses reactions last all night and sometimes they only last for a few minutes. I am still learning about all of this, so any advice is much appreciated! Thank you!

Rashes, hives, constipation, depression, sore joints.

And I never actully eat gluten food, this is all just from accidental cross contamination.

I get a mysterious gurgling sound and sensation under my right rib cage about an hour or two after being glutened. My stomach gets sore. My mood falls and I seem to get pretty morose and tired, then after a day or more I get a terrible bout of diarrhea.

I seem to have not ever broken out with DH, Vomiting is rare. No headaches. and no trouble breathing.

Migraine (sometimes for several days), nasty mood swings (one of the earliest symptoms), stomach gurgling (several days), bloating, constipation (a couple of days) followed by diarrhea (a couple of days), extreme fatigue, acne breakout. I've never vomited but did get the dry heaves from migraine pain the last time I took a really bad CC hit. These are all CC or accidental glutening symptoms; I don't ever knowingly eat gluten.

CC will usually give me a burning feeling in the stomach/belly plus nausea, diarrhea, brain fog and fatigue for a couple of hours or the rest of the day. If I actually have a bite of something containing gluten, it feels like I drank bleach! Terrible "cramps" for a couple a hours (like burning with spasms; can barely walk or move), diarrhea followed by constipation (for a couple of days), extreme fatigue, depression, bloating, sore joints, mouth ulcers, and I might be forgetting a few more(very intense for 1-2 days and usually goes away after 4-5 days).But, put short, it's something you just really don't want to happen.

Really gassy, feel like i'm sleeping while i'm awake (no focus, foggy head, colours and lights are brighter but more demanding and tiring), bloating, bad circulation like my legs fall asleep really easily, palpitations, heart pain, sweating badly for the next 2 days, constipation and then diarrhea for the next 2 days, depression and extra anxiety, irrational anger, joint pains, stomach gurgles a lot, and a funny feeling in my legs just above the knee where it feels like the veins are being constricted or something..I have no idea what that last one is and I've never seen anybody else have it...

I have many of the same reactions named here and trouble breathing is one of them... but usually after I have been CC'd or glutened a few times within a short period of time.

I will sometimes have trouble breathing after a glutening, but it is usually caused by bloating which creates pressure on the heart and lungs, espeically when lying down.

Major D about 30 mins after being CC'ed headache, swollen stomach (I usually got up 4 pant sizes) burping, mood swings, intense anger, so far I've only broken out once....

The swelling in my stomach doesn't go away for about a week...

And joint pain :P

It seems to be different every time for me and how the cross contamination occured or if it outright my own fault. Randomly being sick after eating- I used to think I was preggers and get paranoid about that for a while because of the vomiting (and irregular periods did NOT help with that paranoia). Stomach pain, depression, anxiety, constipation and diarrhea (flip flops between the two), mood swings, lack of motivation/ energy, fatigue, joints will hurt sometimes, massive acne issues, irritability, twitchy legs as I drift off to sleep at night, tooth pain (the wisdom teeth that have decided to not grow- so it's pain that stretches from my gums to my sinus).

Good for you for being so supportive! Everyone's reactions are different, and sometimes individual reactions can vary in the individual. For me, I'll usually get bloating, gurgling stomach, cramps, diarrhea or over-active bowel (lovely, I know) and really intense sinus pain. Sometimes it lasts a short time, sometimes longer.

Example: Before going gluten-free, I got 1/2 way through a pancake and got really intense stomach/bowel cramps. I stopped eating it, and ate some fruit and drank some juice and water - the cramps stopped when the eating did.

Yesterday, I stupidly ate some ice cream without checking the label - yep, I glutened myself. Intense sinus headache came on about 1/2 an hour later, and stomach cramps...still there today. Thankfully the headache has calmed down, but my stomach/bowels still feel iffy.

Ugh!

Thiamax (TTFD) plus a B-complex, and if you want benfotiamine, the Life Extension formula covers that at ~100 mg.

      High fiber can definitely cause sudden GI distress especially if it’s a new addition but accidental gluten exposure can feel similar. Keeping a simple food/symptom log and introducing new gluten-free foods one at a time can really help you spot the pattern.       sorry a bit confused so I should take my B complex along with Objective Nutrients Thiamax for TTFD but what about a Benfotiamine to take. The Life extensions contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine together or im confusing myself. I am trying to see if I take Thiamax what should I take for Benfotiamine. Thanks EDITING after further research I see ones water soluble ones fat soluble. So I guess 100MG as you suggested of Life Extension contains Benfotiamine and Thiamine Hydrochloride. and the Objective Nutrients Thiamax contains TTFD.     would work for me.

      I put on over 12kg by eating protein with every meal, 3 to 5 times a day. Eggs, Chicken, Tuna, Turkey etc. I stay away from too much red meat as it can be inflammatory. Scott is correct. I've come across a bunch of Coeliac PT's on Tiktok and Instagram. They all say the same thing, the key is getting enough protein and consistency.
