Statitics Of Accidental Deaths By Doctors.... Hmmm

Okay, I am not doctor bashing here. But am a little leary about them as I walk through this battlefield of Celiac disease vs. gluten intolerance, and of host of a lot of other illnesses that I have had though the years.

This is an article, ( a little tongue in cheek) that was discussed on hsi community talk forums.

Buy a Kitchen Knife Now!

In spite of the way it looks, that's not actually a pitch to purchase kitchen knives. It's the title of a thread on the General Health Topics forum in the HSI Healthier Talk community. And it's also a bit of tongue-in-cheek humor from a member named Jo who spotted an intriguing article in the UK where she lives.

Jo writes: "I think this is health-related as it concerns kitchen and cooking activities. See what our crazy medics are doing now."

Some doctors - or "crazy medics" if you will - in the UK have called for the ban of long, pointed kitchen knives due to the increased number of violent crimes that are committed with this type of knife. Three doctors from West Middlesex University Hospital in London are apparently heading up the drive for this ban, pointing out that kitchen knives are too accessible, "making it unnecessary to look for another lethal weapon."

They seem believe that when the passion for violence is running high and no steak knives are in the silverware drawer, a potential assailant will just shrug his shoulders and let bygones be bygones. Jolly good!

Here's a response from a member named Rosie: "Jo, Please send a copy of this to those idiots at that hospital to let them know that they are more dangerous than guns or KNIVES."

The "copy of this" Rosie refers to is a batch of statistics that starts with these numbers that (we're told) are supplied by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:

(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.

(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.

© Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

The second set of statistics apparently comes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation:

(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million.

(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.

© The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188.

Rosie goes on: "Statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners. FACT: Not everyone has a gun, but almost everyone has at least one doctor! Please alert your friends to this alarming threat immediately. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!"

I hope our HSI members who are doctors will appreciate this gentle jab.

Meanwhile, UK members might want to take Jo's advice: Buy a Kitchen Knife Now! Once the sale of those knives is banned it will be very difficult to cut meat, slice vegetables or launch a violent attack.

Other topics being discussed this week in the Healthier Talk community forums include:

Energy: Coconut oil

Hearing: Ear candling?

Vision: Wheat free with greatly improved vision

General Health Topics: Raw milk: healthy or just healthier?

Cancer: Melanoma - new patient here

Hormones: Hypothyroid

No, I am not promoting this health forum, just found it a little funny

Ohh, sometimes humor can be scary. :o Fascinating stats!

Glad you found that, it's very interesting and funny. There are some of us who could put a few doctors names forward for the first round of banning. Just kidding ... a little frustration coming out here ;)

So what you are saying is guns don't kill people, doctors do.

I'm no fan of doctors but I think the root cause of a lot of problems with the American medical establishment is that it is driven by the drug companies. In my experience if a pill doesn't exist for a disease then that disease does not exist.

Well if I had a choice of getting rid of guns or doctors I'd choose guns. Even with the statistics.

I think in this day and age, we have to be our own health care advocates as much as we can. I know too many people that accept what the doctor or health care professional says like its the law. Double check as much as you can, go online and learn about what's ailing you, make your you discuss your Rx's with your doctor and then be sure they were filled correctly at the drug store... these are just a few examples, there a lots more. But we have to watch out for ourselves. I'm not defending doctors or their mistakes but its how it is and we need to put ourselves first in the instance of medicine. Many times I've disagreed with my doctor and have told them so.

Since many of us have more than one doctor, how much does that multiply our risk? Almost too scary to contemplate!

I would too ;) . The statistics are mere fun, but if you wanted to get technical and tear them apart... : the statistic only represents the accidental gun deaths, not the intentional ones. If you include the intentional deaths it would balance out more. Also, accidental gun deaths are reckless. Doctors are performing surgeries that are extremely difficult and where chances of mortality are greatly increased. Finally, if they're performing these surgeries (I am assuming that that's what's causing the death in the first place, not that he/she accidentally injects poison into you instead of a vaccine, etc. ), it's likely that the person, untreated, would have died anyway, and that the surgery was just an attempt to prevent that.

Yeah, that sounds super familiar. When inflammation levels are high — especially at the start of changing your diet — the body often develops a fructose and lactose intolerance. Unfortunately, the only thing that really helps is cutting out anything that isn’t lactose-free or that contains sugar. So basically, stick to meat, veggies, fish…

I have trouble with nausea. It often starts when I’m anxious about something (home repairs, sick dog) but continues long after the home is repaired or the dog is healthy again. When it happens I eat less and lose weight.  My gastroenterologist suggested ginger or peppermint tea. I don’t know if that will work or not because I haven't had the problem since she suggested it.

Hello  I'm not sure what to think . Seems no matter what I do I get sick. I had some yogurt with only 2 grams of sugar and is labeled gluten free ...the strawberry version seemed to really set me off My jaw is burning as well as my stomach and my feet.  Horrible pain..plus acid reflux and nausea... sensitivity to touch pain. ..yikes !! I don't know if it's from the lactose in the yogurt or if I'm getting an ulcer  This condition can make you question yourself quite a bit.  Then if you are not sure the anxiety comes 😞 Does any of these symptoms sound familiar to anyone? The neuropathy is quite intense.  What do you eat or drink after this happens  Open to suggestions  Thank you

Of course my son is on a 100% gluten free diet.  I wish his symptoms were not debilitating as there are right now.  He cannot work, even when a miniscule of cross contamination occurs.  It's not just GI distress, but intense fatigue, brain fog, depression, anxiety, insomnia, etc.  It's literally neurological inflammation.  Not to be taken lightly here.  We have sought out many other possible ways to cope during this window of time (8 months!!!!)  without success.   AN-PEP does not help and seems like studies on this are not well researched.  So, we are trying this out because research shows some promising results.  And, all participants showed no cravings afterwards, no signs of addiction.  The patch is different than the oral route such as smoking, vaping, gum, pouch, etc.
    • Scott Adams
Have you tried AN-PEP enzymes, for example, GlutenX (who is a sponsor here)? A lot of research has shown that it can break down small amounts of gluten in the stomach, before it reaches the intestines. It might be a better approach than risking nicotine addiction, and the questionable research around this. I also hope that he’s trying to be 100% Gluten-Free.
