Curly's Baby Back Ribs?

Hey, does anyone know if Curly's Baby Back Ribs are okay? I ate some tonight thinking they were (DH is usually really really careful about label reading) but now have terrible heartburn, aching, exhuastion. Now it could be a coincidence, and I am only about one month gluten free so it's still up and down anyway (plus I've just recently gone dairy free as well). But I checked and it seems Curly's has "modified food starch" (which I would not have taken a chance with if I'd seen that, obviously).

Anyone have any experience with this product? If I did accidentally get "glutened," might I feel better say, tomorrow? Or does it always kinda' last a long time?

Thanks!

I've been eating Curly's for several years now with no problems. I originally had emailed the company and received a reply that they were definitely gluten-free - the modified food starch is made from corn. I recently re-emailed them because they seemed to change to "new improved" this summer. Again they replied the same reply -gluten-free with Mod. Food Starch from corn.

So chow down!

Always keep in mind that gluten reactions can be delayed so it isn't always the last item you ate that got you. Modified food starch in the US is safe unless it has (wheat) after it. Have you deglutened your home? New dedicated toaster, replaced scratched pans and wooden utensils etc. If your DH is not gluten free is he consuming gluten and then are you kissing without him brushing his teeth first? Have you eliminated gluten from toiletries? Do you have a pet that eats gluten food? They can transfer gluten to their coat and then onto your hands or can gluten you through kisses. There are many ways gluten can get into our systems and it can be very hard to figure out at first. You also have not been gluten free for very long and the ribs may just have been too harsh on your system.

So I am now CONVINCED that the Curly's ribs from Costco have glutenated me many times over.  I have been suspicious for about a year now but what led me astray was that not every package caused symptoms.  With this last package that was just purchased, I ate some on 2 separate occasions and got sick both times.  Since it is always very hard to tell what exactly the source of the gluten was (since I usually eat these ribs with a meal that has other items) it wasn't until last night that I confirmed it was the ribs.  I had not eaten all day (at least 12 hours) and then I had 2 of them, only.  Within 15 minutes, my tummy was cramping and gurgling - my normal symptoms of being glutenated.  Within 2 hours, I was having intense cramping and diarrhea and I now get to suffer for 3 days until my body recovers.  Thus, in my own study of 1, I know that Curly's ribs are absolutely NOT gluten free.  Beware.

This is how I do my ribs at home and for catering, get smithfield baby back ribs, the Natural ones have less crud in them and are labeled gluten free.  Find these at most walmarts Open Original Shared Link
Preheat oven to 275F
Salt and Pepper the ribs and rub with a bit of Colgin Liquid Smoke (this is a gluten free brand), and wrap tightly in foil, place on baking sheet (lipped one so no joices leak) in oven for 3-4 hours.
Remove ribs from oven and crank it up to 450F
Now slather the ribs in BBQ sauce, I use Open Original Shared Link
Now place them back in the foil but leave the top open and place in the oven for 10-15mins
Will make some of the best fall off the bone ribs sometimes I mix in a few tbsp of apple sauce with the BBQ sauce and it makes them really sticky as it glazes to the ribs during the high heat.

Hello. How are you feeling? Did you find out the cause? I have the same symptoms, but I'm still going through the diagnostic process for celiac disease.

I'm confused about these results. We are not seeing the GI doc. He's totally out of our price range. We can just do gluten free like we do for my daughter who was off the charts on all of these. Any thoughts? Maybe we caught it early? He's only 5.  His EMA was negative. That got cut out of the photo.
