Hubby Has Crossed Over To The Dark Side

When I took the kids and myself off gluten, the house pretty much went gluten-free by default. Hubby keeps a couple packs of ramen noodles around for a quick meal and tends to eat gluten when we're away from home, but has otherwise been gluten-free for a couple of months now. He has been VERY supportive of the kids' and my gluten-free diets (especially when we really started seeing changes in DS's behavior!) but not interested in going gluten-free for himself at all.

He used to have chronic heartburn and "potty issues" (I never really pried into this one, but he'd spend forever in there!) Lately I noticed that he only seems to have heartburn when he's eaten a gluteny meal. I pointed this out to him a few times, when I'd see him rubbing his chest and realize that he'd eaten ramen or a sandwich that day, but he kinda blew me off and tried to attribute it to something else.

Today we had a birthday party for our son, where I served a spread of gluten-free snacks (chips, lentil crackers, cheese, veggies, hummus & fruit), and I even made gluten-free cupcakes (LOVE the betty crocker mixes! Srsly!) But being the wonderful passive aggressive person that she is and refusing to acknowledge our gluten issues, MIL brought cream puffs. Hubby ate more than his fair share, and not much else today since he was kind of running around all day.

Tonight hubby asked me how my tummy was feeling. Fine, said I. Why? He told me that he was feeling really gurgly and had bad heartburn and said "I'm beginning to think that there's something to this gluten thing." Wow. Finally he's putting two and two together! Yay! I'm really excited and hopeful that he will consider sticking to a gluten-free lifestyle. I can't wait to see how his health improves if he does.

Yea if he is eating mostly gluten free he is doing little mini challenges everytime he eats gluten. Those challenges seem to be positive. Hopefully he will stick with the diet but if he is going to be tested make sure he knows that on a low gluten diet his chances of a false negative are really high.

I don't think he's interested in doing any testing. For us, the diet is enough of a test. Someday if it becomes necessary to have "test results" for whatever reason we'll deal with it then.

Today he's finishing off the cream puffs... agh! lol

Congratulations! My dh went gluten free just like yours. Took 8 years but that's ok.

Hi everyone  This has been a crazy year so far... How many people actually get entire sensory overload from gluten or something similar ?  My jaw is going nuts ..and that nerve is affecting my upper back and so on ...  Bones even hurt.  Brain fog. Etc  I had eggs seemed fine.   Then my aid cooked a chicken stir fry in the microwave because my food order shorted a couple key items .   I was so hungry but I noticed light breading and some ingredients with SOY !!! Why are we suffering with soy ? This triggered a sensitivity to bananas and gluten-free yogurt it seems like it's a cycle that it goes on.  The tiniest amount of something gets me I'm guessing the tiny bit of breading that I took one tiny nibble of ...yikes ..im cringing from it .. Feels like my stomach is going to explode yet still very hungry 😔  How long does this last?! Thank you so much

This is an older article, but may be helpful.

I have had orthodontic work done. The 3M invisalign material was no problem. BUT my retainers are another matter. They seemed okay for a few months. Now, however, they cause a burning sensation on my tongue, gums and insides of my lips. The burning sensation is now spreading to my throat. I notice it when I breathe. This is annoying and interferes with my enjoyment of eating. I am visiting with my provider tomorrow. We'll see where this goes from here.

Exactly which blood tests were done? There are a few different ones and some docs don't do them all. Also, your results and reference ranges for each?

Thankyou so much for your words. Its a hard battle when a supposed well known hospital whose celiac " specialist " has down played me because my colon looks fine and put it in my medical and so pcp doesn't take seriously. In their eyes we all carry that gene.Im having alot of bad days trying to be positive because of it.
