Froyo

So, I am sitting here feeling like an idiot in between trips to the loo  I went to a luncheon today, and the only thing safe to eat was steamed carrots and zucchini. Good thing I paid $40 for the lunch, right?

So, I go in search of something to fill the screaming void in my tummy. Went to Cherry on Top, a Frozen Yogurt chain. Now, before anyone says "I told you so," lots of Froyo chains use all kinds of artificial junk in their froyo, not actual cookies or cake. I looked up a few, and felt safe having cookies and cream. Had it before with no issues (artificial crap). Whowouldathunkit that Cherry on Top uses actual COOKIES???

So here I am, glutenated :(

Beware! Some froyo places use actual cookies, cheesecake, etc.

Dude!

I have never been to a frozen yogurt place and don't know of any around here. But all of the ice creams I have seen have real pieces of cookie or pie or whatever in them. To be safe I would have picked another flavor like vanilla.

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
