Women Only - Mensuration Symptoms

Hi

I am a brand new celiac, who is actually still waiting for confirmation from test results

What I'm wondering about is symptoms with mensuration

When my typical celiac symptoms started to become severe I also started to have a constant period. I mean I am always menstruating, it's so heavy, but it never stops!

Is this a symptom of celiac disease? Or do I have something else too?

I have done every test, changed pills and even gone off hormones, nothing changes. It's been about 2 years now.

I've gone gluten free for around one month now and my period stopped for 3 days and then started again.

I know that celiac disease can have an affect on fertility and I've read that some women stop getting one or have a very irregular period. So what about the opposite.

Is a constant period a symptom?

and what can I do about it.

I'm desperate, this has been by far the worst symptom I've had and it has been disrupting every single part of my life, including what I get to wear everyday to my yoga practice.

Any insight would be great!

Thanks

I think a constant period would warrant a trip to the GYN. I noticed about 16 months ago my periods were acting up- like it would come early and last longer. I've always been super regular too so this was very alarming to me. I was dx'd with celiac 3 months ago and I am wondering if the weird periods were part of celiac. My GYN said no, but I find it coincidental.

Have you had a pelvic U/S?

I don't have the same problem but I can confirm that gluten definitely affects my menstruation - hello gluten, goodbye periods, like clockwork.

The main reason for my reply though is to suggest that your doctor should keep a close eye on your iron levels, because I expect that with constant periods you're at a high risk of anaemia.

I don't have the constant bleeding, but i do have heavy painful periods due to endometriosis. Don't have ins or the money for surgery so I just have to deal with it. I had the test that shows i inherited this from both sides of my family. My mother is 69 years old and she has all the symptoms of celiac. But she refuses to go gluten free or get tested even though she lost 4 brothers, 1 sister, her father and 3 of his sisters to cancer. She bled constantly from the age of 10 until she had my brother at the age of 30. She had about 3 days out of the month that she didn't bleed. She said she had all sorts of tests and the dr's told her that it was due to endometriosis. A few months after my brother was born her thyroid went out of whack and they had to totally remove it plus she had to have a hysterectomy at the same time.

You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
