Samples For Support Group

tpineo

tpineo Rookie

We have a support group that is about 5 months old and each month I request samples from gluten-free companies. Many companies have been very generous and it has been a great way to sample foods and decide what to buy in the future.

However, we have contacted all the established gluten-free companies (i.e., gluten-free Pantry, Kinnikinnick, Ener-g, etc.) and are now focusing on smaller, less well know companies. We have found 2 real winners lately (Celiac Specialities-great donuts and 123Gluten-free-great mixes). However, we are now searching for other new (or just less well-known) companies. If anyone has a suggestion, we would love to hear it. Thanks!

I wrote to several companies asking them for product samples to use for a support group meeting. I was overwhelmed with their responses!! They didn't hesitate to help out! Here is a listing of the generous companies who supplied the meeting with TONS of good things to eat. Most were not "sample sizes" most were full sized products and they were SUPER generous. I'm sure if you ever needed anything for your meetings, they would be happy to help you too!! -Jessica

Jessica:

When you contacted these companies, did you email them or contact them via regular mail? I am starting a celiac support group next month and want to begin working on getting product samples. Any tips you have are greatly appreciated! :D:D

Thanks SO MUCH for that list. I just assumed leadership of our group which floundered for a few months after the previous leader quit. Last night I contacted EnjoyLifeFoods to inquire about samples, because they previously sent us a freebee box last year. I thought maybe having a new leader meant our group could get more goodies!! Anyway then I found your list. FANTASTIC!! I'll start emailing them this week to request more freebees. Maybe I can arrange for a free goody box to arrive at every monthly meeting!

I would love to hear from other new (or longterm) leaders. If you would like to correspond with me, just pm or email me. I've already received some great feedback from the topic I posted on this site asking for suggestions from other leaders. Maybe we can start a mini support group leaders group!

We're starting one here in LA, kinda informal at this point, but we'll see.

I just emailed Kinnikinnick and Pamelas, and they sent out boxes the next day.

They like two weeks notice, but everyone was super nice about everything.

Actually, do you know the St. John's Listserv? They have a list for just general celiac stuff, but they also have one for doctors, one for support group leaders, etc. You need to provide verification that you actually lead the support group--like, the name of your group, etc. That might be something to look into. And have you been to the Delphi board? I know quite a few people there that head up the support group -- Tim Coda (gfskier), Chris Spreitzer (SPREITZER), and a few others....

Thank you so much for sharing your experience and I found myself giggling with happiness as I read how your body reached such spring! And I hope that your current journey is also successful!! Definitely starting the food diary! So many amazing advices. And it’s very scary. It really hits all our soft spots as well as our confidence system. Most doctors I went thought I was underage despite being in my late 20s. Right now I look like am I twelve, but is also this body that’s taking so much, so I might as well love it too! Going to make the necessary changes and stay in this path. Thank you again! 🫶

Thank you so much for the information and kind message! Reading this transformed how I’ve been viewing my efforts and progress. Guess there’s still a lot to celebrate and also heal 😌  Yes, I’ve been taking it! Just recently started taking a multivitamin supplement and separated vitamin D! I also took chewable Iron polymaltose for ferritin deficiency 2 months ago but was unable to absorb any of it.  Thank you again! Hearing such gentle words from the community makes my body and heart more patient and excited for the future.

Your post demonstrates the profound frustration and isolation that so many in the Celiac community feel, and I want to thank you for channeling that experience into advocacy. The medical gaslighting you endured for decades is an unacceptable and, sadly, a common story, and the fact that you now have to "school" your own GI specialist speaks volumes about the critical lack of consistent and updated education. Your idea to make Celiac Disease a reportable condition to public health authorities is a compelling and strategic one. This single action would force the system to formally acknowledge the prevalence and seriousness of the disease, creating a concrete dataset that could drive better research funding, shape medical school curricula, and validate the patient experience in a way that individual stories alone often cannot. It is an uphill battle, but contacting representatives, as you have done with Adam Gray, is exactly how change begins. By framing it as a public health necessity—a matter of patient safety and protection from misdiagnosis and neglect—you are building a powerful case. Your voice and your perseverance, forged through thirty years of struggle, are exactly what this community needs to ensure that no one else has to fight so hard just to be believed and properly cared for.

I had no idea there is a "Louisville" in Colorado!😉 I thought it was a typo because I always think of the Kentucky city--but good luck!
