Steroids & When Cravings Attack...

How do you handle it when severe cravings attack? I've had this terrible crud that's been going around and had to do 20 days of antibiotics and the 12-day steroid pack. On top of the steroids it is PMS time. The cravings are killing me. How do I handle this? I'm trying to be good but I haven't been. I know that is a major no-no. But I don't know how to cope!

Any and all help is appreciated.

Are you saying that you are craving gluteny foods?!

If so, when I get that way. I usually make up some Betty Crocker gluten free cookies, cupcakes or brownies. If you can do dairy, ice cream is good! For something salty, I make popcorn or have Lays Stax. You can make pancakes or pizza out of the gluten free bisquick or make some tacos or something.....What exactly are you craving? There is pretty much a gluten free substitute for everything.

The best way to handle the cravings is to keep 'treats' that are safe on hand. My go to is chocolate. If you give in to the cravings for gluten they may continue as gluten can be an addictive substance for us. Just as an alcoholic can not have 'just one drink' safely or an exsmoker can not have 'just one cig' we can not have 'just one gluten treat'. Try to be strong and be prepared as best you can for when cravings hit. Most importantly don't give in to them.

Thanks for the support. I am craving all kinds of gluten containing foods. It isn't just the flavor I'm craving, but the texture and everything. Texture is something I'm having a difficult time with. I need to not be so dang picky!

The Betty Crocker gluten free brownies are pretty much like the real deal texture wise. They are a chewy brownie. Why don't you make some of those and have some vanilla ice cream with it! :)

There is also a sugar cookie recipe on the Betty Crocker gluten free website. They taste exactly like regular sugar cookies.

Supplements.

Calcium citrate. Magnesium. B 12 complex. And blackstrap molasses for the iron.

Chocolate.

Cheese and plain rice crackers. Crunch. crunch. crunch.

And.... I can make bread pretty fast. I can't do much sugar, but there is a lot you can do with flavored quickbreads. Microwave - bun. Pancakes or flatbreads on the stove top. I made a mock pumpernickel yesterday, took toasted buckwheat, fresh grated orange peel, cocoa, caraway seed, cumin, agave, I can eyeball this now in a bowl. Sliced in half, made a deli sandwich. Poor me. Who needs white bread. :P

I will also force myself to eat more vegetables, because they are better than getting on that roller coaster of blood sugars going up and down.

Soup is good, too. Curry with coconut milk. Side of rice.

Maybe boil up some rice pasta and throw some safe sauce over it.

Thanks everyone!

So I've been dealing with chasing the name celiac because of my body actively dealing with health issues related to celiac though not eating. Diagnosed in 1994 before foods eliminated from diet. After 25 years with former pcp I googled celiac specialist and she wasn't because of what ive been through. I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

I've noticed with my age and menopause my smell for bread gives me severe migraines and I know this. Its alarming that there are all these fabulous bakeries, sandwich places pizza places popping up in confined areas.Just the other day I suffered a migraine after I got done with my mri when a guy with a brown paper bag walk in front of me and I smelled that fresh dough bread with tuna, I got a migraine when we got home.I hate im that sensitive. Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.
