First Time Drinking Alcohol After Symptoms Clearing

About a week ago, I was glutened, and was over my symptoms and back to normal feeling, aside from a few body aches yesterday. Being that I was feeling better, I decided to move back to normal life, how I would have been pre-glutening (before being glutened I was completely gluten-free for about 4 months). So I made up a batch of margaritas a few hours ago, and they were delicious. I used Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila and Dekuyper Triple Sec, both of which I'd had before with no issue. The one change I made was using Kroger brand limeade frozen concentrate, rather than Meijer brand (Meijer lists theirs as gluten-free on their website). I went to bed a bit after having the margaritas, feeling a bit buzzed, but not too bad.

Fast forward to now, it's about 3 hours later, and I just woke up in a cold sweat, with terrible acid reflux, which seems to be subsiding. Am I just reacting to the alcohol so soon after a glutening, or did I get glutened again? When I went to bed, I was barely buzzed, but fell asleep within minutes, and woke up very hard, and like I said, in a cold sweat, and with bad acid reflux. Those appear to be my only symptoms thus far.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I'm not sure about but you could have gotten gluten. Since being gluten free I react badly to most alcohols except rum. I'm not a big drinker in the first place but the first time I drank vodka after going gluten free I was sick with in a couple minutes. I've also noticed that a lot of time store brands of things will have gluten in them whereas the name brands do not.

Everything in your drink would seem to be gluten-free.

I've been celiac for about 6 years and gluten free about 2 months margaritas, rum and coke, potato based vodka and a beer called Red Bridge made by Anheuser Busch, are the only alcoholic beverages I consume and have never had any problems. The same goes for my mom who was diagnosed and been on a strict diet of gluten free products. The very sight of gluten-free makes her stomach hurt it seems. That being said Sounds like something else got ya.

      You might try Heallix.  It's a silver solution with fulvic acid. I just put the solution on with a cotton ball.  It seemed to stop the nerve pain. Again,  not in your eyes or ears.   Go to heallix.com to read more about it and decide for yourself Also,  I do think nerve and celiac combined have a lot to do with your susceptibility to shingles breaking out.

      Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

      Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

      Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

      I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.
