Eee Gads, I buy a big container of this every week, prefer it to OJ because it isn't so sweet. DP announced that Diane Sawyer was on national news outside Ocean Spray due to the arsenic posioning and reporting how many people have become sick from it.

I didn't see the news release myself, but thought you'd be interested in case you didn't see the news, especially since we don't need another "arsnic" ... already have our gluten rat poisin.

Is it only a certain batch or flavor or the sparkling? I have 4 different flavors at home plus the sparkling.

Subject to earlier news:

The subject of the article was naturally occurring arsenic in apple juice. Some brands tested higher than others. (I don't have the primary data). It was suggested that children under the age of seven, have the apple juice watered down. But, the alarm bell was not ringing.

It's a fluid story so let's wait for the facts. I have a two year old grand daughter who's drink of choice is toddlers apple juice. I can assure you, I will stay on top of this. :D

I was not aware of the story of Ocean Spray Sparkling . Humph, just bought it for the girls this weekend. It was consumed. Wonder if Vodka dilutes the arsenic.?

If your great-grandma didn't serve it to HER childern why would you serve to yours?!? Too easy peasy to make your own. You won't feed your kid gluten but you would pour sugar down their throats? If you made your own juice you might know what goes into it.....

I don't know about for everyone else, but in our case my children get maybe half a cup a day of juice and the rest of what they drink is water. And it may not be difficult to make juice, but with taking care of 2 young children who I am homeschooling it is too time consuming considering that we have to make almost all our food from scratch also. So in our case, it would come down to having time to make them juice or something else like schooling suffering. Sometimes things just have to be bought when you have young children.

I do make my own juice, and while it is easy, it is very time consuming. It's not for everyone.

You've got your facts all wrong. Ocean Spray wasn't even one of the brands named in the study and nobody has been arsenic poisoned. The low levels of arsenic were in apple and grape juice. Most of the apple juice concentrate comes from China, so it's partly another big Chinese food safety issue. (surprise, surprise) There is also natural arsenic in the groundwater and soil in some parts of the US that gets into trees.

Ocean Spray has a big voluntary recall of craisins because of the possibility of metal shavings in them. Perhaps you got the two mixed up.

Thank you for the info Skylark, I wasn't able to find anything about the Ocean Spray thing when I tried searching online.

I have a friend with a 22-month old who is working hard to find apple juice for her son that only uses US apples because of this article. She's buying Tree Top brand. That's how I happened to know about it.

Hmmm I wonder if Simply Apple would be made with US apples, I know the apples are the only ingredient.

Celiac disease requires both genetic potential and a triggering stress event to activate the genes. Otherwise it remains dormant and only a potential problem. So having the genetic potential is not deterministic for celiac disease. Many more people have the genes than actually develop the disease. But if you don't have the genes, the symptoms are likely being caused by something else.

Yes, i pulled raw ancetry data and saw i have 2/3 markers for DQ2.2 but have heard from friends in genetics that this raw data can be wildly innacurate

Thanks, I’m still dealing with the pain and tingling and itching and feeling like bugs or something crawling around on my face and scalp. It’s been a miserable experience. I saw my eye doc last week, the eye itself was okay, so they didn’t do anything. I did take a 7 day course of an antiviral. I’m hoping for a turnaround soon! My life is full of stress but I have been on / off the gluten free diet for the last year , after being talked into going back on gluten to have a biopsy, that looked okay. But I do have positive antibody levels that have been responsive  to a gluten free diet. I can’t help but wonder if the last year has caused all this.

I don't think any apps are up to date, which is exactly why this happened to you. Most of the data in such apps is years old, and it doesn't get updated in real time. Ultimately there is no substitution for learning to read labels. The following two lists are very helpful for anyone who is gluten sensitive and needs to avoid gluten when shopping. It's very important to learn to read labels and understand sources of hidden gluten, and to know some general information about product labelling--for example in the USA if wheat is a possible allergen it must be declared on a product's ingredient label like this: Allergens: Wheat.

What is the best gluten free scanner app? I have the "gluten-free Scanner" app. I scanned an almond joy and it says it contains gluten when the package is labeled gluten free
