and this is why, my dear girl, we are Warrior Princesses! ;)

For all I lost the past few years, I never lost my sense of humor or my joy for life. Even on the darkest days.

To us! I am sipping champagne with my love right now--who has thanked me repeatedly for fighting so hard and saving my own life---and I toast you and your equally devoted husband as well!

This was a healing year for us both--slow and steady---and I fully intend to get it all back. Keep that courageous spirit you have. ;)

Do NOT listen to nay-sayers and pessimists!! They said I needed a "scooter" to get around back in 2008--but I do NOT and I just danced a few minutes ago with wild abandon in my living room!!--as I have done my whole life. :)

We push on, you and I!

Best wishes for a happy and healthier New Year!

Cheers,

xxoo IH

Ya all probably know about these Rolator walkers already, but that won't stop me from posting a link to a video on them! They are supposed to be really handy for people and light weight etc. And not too expensive either. So just for info, I am not linked to them in any way. There are lots of people who sell them also, this was just an easy video to find that shows the setup/unboxing.

Another thing that might be handy is a trike. Trikes are stable by comparison to bikes and they can get you around and also get some exercize for your legs. The Zigo leader is one option but there are others too. Zigo is a bit pricey I think. We were going to get one for my dad but he had an accident and broke his hip so no go. His house had wide doorways and he could have ridden it from one room to another instead of using a scooter. When I worked in the Pentagon years ago as a hammer procurer (joke) they used trikes to get around the building and carry mail and parts etc. A trike with a big basket can be real handy for that and makes no noise or pollution inside a building, so good stuff.

Ya all's goals are too much for me. Quilting, gardening, reading, feeding a goat, (they eat about anything including rotting veggies), speaking Croatan, learning to waltz, (I am sure somebody must have that planned), crow-stitching, laying in the sun, shoveling snow (not sure we are going to get any here this year), reaching level 85 in WOW (horribly importante of course), dancing in a can-can lineup, (I'll watch if you will do it :-) ), reading the bible front to back again, and catching a falling star. :)

Well, I may have mixed a few of my own in there. Hmmm, now my own would be: get back to painting and making art like a normal person is supposed to do, I kind of stopped this past summer due to being yickly and too busy and tired at work, but feeling better now so am getting riled up again. Visiting my sister and her DH in New Mexico and painting a desert landscape or two, taking most of my vacation allotment instead of letting most of it expire, applying for a patent, (not saying get one, but at least apply), clean my house and get organized in a big way, go out sketching more and maybe take a glass making workshop (there is a great glass studio here in the DC area), make a bow and arrows from hand for the SCA group and get more involved with them, make some mead, do a better job at work, write something for M-Lee's book on celiac (probably borrow shamelessly from the Warrior Princesse's life stories - kidding!), get glutened zero times, visit my relates more, sell more art, encourage people, save some money for a change and pay off more debt, control my blood sugar with diet and the E word. Some of this may take more than the winter to get done tho... :D

Is the SCA still active in DC area? I loved it when they had live chess matches on the Mall, near the White House. Can just see you in chain mail, blowing glass and drinking mead.

Its mid summer here:) But my project is to make some quilts for the first time. I need to - we have moved and it gets far colder here than where I am originally from. Its hard to get into the frame of mind of making quilts when its so bleeding hot!

Doing some upgrades in the kitchen. Tile backsplash, new flooring, new dishwasher. Can you guess? Yup. Dishwasher cracked and caused some damage to the floor. One thing always leads to another.

I want to practice knitting, so I will make some hats to donate to charaties for Christmas time next year.

Looking forward to watching my kids in their sports. Gymnastics and baseball. I will try not to hold my breath the whole time.

My dad is terminally ill. So I will make it a priority to enjoy the "little" gifts of each day. :)

Well that's the plan for now. ;)

um....If this suggestion was for me?--thank you, but no thanks!-- you may have missed the point of what I said in my post to LOVE2TRAVEL. I was encouraging her to not listen to those who say we cannot rehab and be well and that I do NOT need a scooter. (And neither of us can sit comfortably for long--much less in one of those things anyway because of lumbar, spine and sacroiliac issues--but you could not possibly have known that if you did not know our stories) My deteriorating health and brain function and crippling pain was dismissed by many doctors and the suggestion for 3 years was "just take these drugs, take some more drugs -- and learn to "live with it" <_< ....if I had not figured out it was celiac causing all that destruction, I might not be here typing this message nor would I be walking at all. ;)

But it was thoughtful of you to suggest it. :)

Happy New Year! Cheers, IH

Hah! Yep, The SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism) is still active here. I am a subject of the Barony of Storvik. They are based in Maryland but DC is part of the barony. They are under the Kingdom of Altlantia.

They do fighter practice every Monday night at a church. Kind of funny, all these guys in armor whacking each other on the head in a church parking lot! The fencing and dancing is done inside the church though, nice and proper like. I haven't been to but a couple events so far, but once it gets warmer want to go out to them. They have camps most every weekend somewhere in the area. And at night they sit around in bardic circles telling stories and singing songs and drinking mead. It's really a hoot.

Since they try to recreate medieval times and processes, they do classes on making all kinds of things. I am interested in their historic pigments for inscription. But they make all kinds of things including weapons, clothing, food, drink (lots), art, tools etc. Anyhow, all good fun M'lady.

Sounds like lots of fun?! My son's persona was a gypsy, so I was able to make his garb without killing my budget.

We went to a drum circle around a campfire at one of the events and it was blast.

I can just picture the guys in the parking lot. What must passers-by think? :D

GFinDC Veteran

Yeah, it's fun. Nice people too. I haven't been to a drum circle yet. The church is near a college so the passersby are mostly students. They probably think it's normal church social therapy or something. Except for the rattan swords. :)

Have you tried Pure Encapsulations supplements? This is a brand my doctor recommends for me. I have no issues with this brand.

plant sources of calcium, such as spinach, have calcium bound to oxalates, which is not good. best source of calcium is unfortunately dairy, do you tolerate dairy? fermented dairy like kefir is good and or a little hard cheese. i do eat dairy, i can only take so much dietary restriction and gluten is hard enough! but i guess some people do have bad reactions to it, so different for everyone.

i take b12, folate, b2, b6, glycine, Nac, zinc, vk2 mk4, magnesium, coq10, pqq, tmg, creatine, omega 3, molybdnem (sp) and just started vit d. quite a list i know.  I have high homocysteine (last checked it was 19, but is always high and i finally decided to do something about it) and very low vitamin d, 10. have been opposed to this supp in the past, but going to try it at 5k units a day. having a pth test on friday, which is suspect will be high. my homocysteine has come down to around 9 with 3 weeks of these supplements and expect it to go down further. i also started on estrogen/progesterone. I have osteoporosis too, so that is why the hormones.  anyway, i think all celiacs should have homocysteine checked and treated if needed (easy enough with b vit, tmg). homocysteine very bad thing to be high for a whole host of reasons. all the bad ones, heart attack , stroke, alzi, cancer..... one of the most annoying things about celiacs (and there are so many!) is the weight gain. i guess i stayed thin all those years being undiagnosed because i was under absorbing everything including calories. going gluten-free and the weight gain has been terrible, 30#, but i'm sure a lot more went into that (hip replacement - and years of hip pain leading to inactivity when i was previously very active, probably all related to celiacs, menopause) yada yada. i seemed to lose appetite control, like there was low glp, or leptin or whatever all those hormones are that tell you that you are full and to stop eating. my appetite is immense and i'm never full. i guess decades or more ( i think i have had celiacs since at least my teens - was hospitalized for abdominal pain and diarrhea for which spastic colon was eventually diagnosed and had many episodes of diarrhea/abdominal pain through my 20's. but that symptom seemed to go away and i related it to dairy much more so than gluten. Also my growth was stunted, i'm the only shorty in my family. anyway, decades of malabsorption and maldigestion led to constant hunger, at least thats my theory. then when i started absorbing normally, wham!! FAT!!!

Great advise there I agree with the aniexty part, and the aura migraine has I suffer both, I've also read some great books that have helped I'm going too look the one you mentioned up too thankyou for that, I find a camomile tea just a small one and a gentle wind down before bed has helped me too, I suffer from restless leg syndrome and nerve pain hence I don't always sleep well at the best of times , racing mind catches up I have decorated my whole house in one night in my mind before 🤣 diet changes mindset really help , although I have to say it never just disappears, I find once I came to terms with who I am I managed a lot better  , a misconception is for many to change , that means to heal but that's not always the case , understanding and finding your coping mechanisms are vital tools , it's more productive to find that because there is no failure then no pressure to become something else , it's ok to be sad it's ok to not sleep , it's ok to worry , just try to see it has a journey not a task 🤗
    • nanny marley
I agree there I've tryed this myself to prove I can't eat gluten or lactose and it sets me back for about a month till I have to go back to being very strict to settle again
