Yes. After trying mayny different things, I have come to realize it's the carmel coloring in soda. Yes, it causes me leg cramps and makes me hurt almost all over. I am so senitive now that diet soda is a no go too. Sure do miss a diet Pepsi.

Jacqueline

That does not mean there is gluten in the soda. You can certainly react to an ingredient.

People sometime have issues with caramel color, not gluten but other it could be from other sources.

ooops, Karen just said that. B)

It doesn't look to me like she said that it was gluten. She just said that she reacts to carmel coloring.

Here is something to mull over:

That could be the reason for a reaction to carmel color.

My son 7yo and I both are celiac. My older son wanted me to stop at tacobell and get an application for work. So I thought I'd just get us all a drink. (I'm very strict to stay away from gluten but still new at it). Within 15 min cramps and D hit me. And about 5min later it hit my son who was curled up on floor crying with belly aches. My question ...is there gluten in the glues of the cups? Cross contamination? Since it was both of us I'd think it was gluten and not other allergies.

Hi - I recognize that this is an older thread but saw your post about the cup.  I was at a convention this past weekend and got a cup of coffee with cream in one of those paper cups.  Oh my goodness - I got VERY sick.  Immediately.  For awhile I thought there must have been something in the coffee or the machine wasn't washed properly....but that would be so very far fetched.  Anyway - after I stumbled across your post here, I think it probably was the cup!  I never thought of that.  Will have to do some research on that.

Gluten is not. Common ingredient in cheap glues these days. Partially because it would be expensive and because it wouldn't be water proof.

People always mistakenly assume there is gluten in glue.  Nope. Not in stamps, not on envelopes. not on toilet tissue rolls and not on paper cups.

something made you  sick, I do not doubt it, but gluten in adhesives is a myth.

Read this, please--it explains it very well.

I think I even react to carbonated water.  I left root beer and coke behind a couple decades ago.  I like to make smoothies with coconut milk and frozen fruit.  Oh, I put in a little of home-grown honey if I feel like it.  Tonight's was fresh raspberry and it was delicious!  I wasn't even sad seeing someone else having ice cream.  Mine tasted better!

Yes, @trents is right, ascorbic acid can be irritating.  Do you take it with food? Do you take other supplements or vitamins? Do you eat processed meats?   Is your diet high in carbohydrates?

Be careful with C supplementation. It's ascorbic "acid". Too much can cause stomach and gut irritation.
