B12 And Folic Acid

This is so important that it bears repeating. Please have your B 12 and Folic Acid levels checked. My husband's levels started to interfere with his homocystine level. But after daily supplementation he feels better.

I didn't feel a big difference but fortunately my doctor did check my levels. He found that the B12 was low. He recommended B12 1000mcg. 2x/day. I started with 1000mcg. 1x/day. Right away I felt a slight increase in my energy level.

B12 assists folic acid in the formation of red blood cells and the uses of iron.

B12 is found in clams, eggs, herring, liver, milk and dairy, seafood, brewer's yeast and soy beans, kelp, nori and dulse.

BE WELL!

When my doc did my blood work for Celiac, it came back that I was low in Folic acid. He put me on prenatal vitamins, and about 3 days later, I suddenly felt more awake, and less depressed. I didn't think it could work that fast, but maybe it did, and maybe that is what the problem was. He said I wasn't even that low, I was on the low end of normal. But since taking the vitamins, I've felt much better.

I went to an internist today and discussed low vit. counts. He told me that until the small intest. heal, nothing will be absorbed. He will recommend shots until healing can be noticed.

This might be good info. for those just beginning the gluten-free diet.

You could also try sublingual B12 rather than the injections. It is given to people that lack the intrinsic factor and is absorbed under the tongue. Just make sure it is gluten-free of course.

Welcome to the forum, @yellowstone! The most common ones seem to be dairy (casein), oats, eggs, soy and corn. "Formed" meat products (because of the "meat glue" used to hold their shape) is a problem for some. But it can be almost anything on an individual basis as your sensitivity to rice proves, since rice is uncommonly a "cross reactor" for celiacs. Some celiacs seem to not do well with any cereal grains.

What foods can trigger a response in people with gluten sensitivity? I've read that there are foods that, although they don't contain gluten, can cause problems for people with gluten sensitivity because they contain proteins similar to gluten that trigger a response in the body. I've seen that other cereals are included: corn, rice... also chicken, casein. I would like to know what other foods can cause this reaction, and if you have more information on the subject, I would like to know about it. Right now, I react very badly to rice and corn. Thank you.
