I have a casein allergy. Is it possible for casein to flare up DH? I had some milk and butter and got my usual reaction but now since my DH is flaring on my elbows and pits again, I am thinking I had to have been glutened.

Anyone know?

From what I have read, I do not believe casein causes eruptions.

Excerpted From Celiac Disease: The Hidden Epidemic. Dr. Peter H. R. Green and Rory Jones Chapter 11

..."DH is very erratic. Since the skin may not be rid of IgA deposits for more than 2 years after starting a gluten-free diet, flare- ups occur without obvious gluten ingestion.

It may take patients a substantial amount of time to erase years of IgA buildup in the skin."

A flare could also be due to inadvertent gluten ingestion, iodine, or the use of NSAIDS. Opinions vary as to whether topical lotions and creams have ingredients that might trigger a reaction and stress may exacerbate the flares, although there is no science behind the stress link.

If the patient has DH, it may take years for it to get better. (Green )

I know that some people also report a huge improvement following a low salicylate diet .

Thanks.. must have been the sals or I was glutened and mistook it for casein. This stuff is so hard to figure out! Since my gluten, corn and casein reactions are all the same, sometimes I never know!

I found this on some literature from a neuropath.

A milk-free diet may improve symptoms of dermatitis herpetiformis. The intake of milk products intensified symptoms of DH in two patients despite adherence to a gluten-free diet and a milk and gluten-free diet was effective.

- Since I already had a Dh flare from the NSAIDS I took a few weeks ago, maybe this just made it worse.

I found anything that "irritates" me irritates DH if it's flaring.

In the beginning I had neuro + DH aggravated by MSG and that was awful. How do you deal with your armpits on fire when your brain doesn't function and your heart is going 100 mph and you're paranoid and angry???

OMG.

Yes, Mo, until you get DH to lay down a gnat fart will probably make it worse. I'm sorry, it sucks.

Thank you that’s really helpful, hopeful won’t have to have a biopsy.

That means the normal range (i.e. not celiac disease) would be a result less than 14.99.  Your result is WAY above that. Some gastroenterologists would diagnose that as celiac disease even without a confirming biopsy because it is more than ten times the top of the normal range.

Hi everyone. Back in 2022 I had blood work drawn for iga ext gliadin. Since then I’ve developed worse stomach issues and all other health issues. My doctor just said cut out gluten. He did no further testing. Please see my test results attached. I just need some direction cause I feel so ill and the stomach pain is becoming worse. Can this test show indications for other gastrointestinal diseases?

Thank you. These were the results TTG ABS NUMERICAL: > 250.0 U/mL [< 14.99]  Really don’t understand the results!

Clearly from what you've said the info on Dailymed is much more up to date than the other site, which hasn't been updated since 2017. The fact that some companies might be repackaging drugs does not mean the info on the ingredients is not correct.
