Minute Rice And Perdue Chicken

Okay, probably a dumb question, but are Minute Rice and Perdue Chicken gluten-free? Perdue seems to be okay, but I'm not sure about Minute Rice. I had a gluten reaction last night and I'm trying to pinpoint what I got it from. I made chicken rice soup yesterday with Minute Rice, Perdue Fit and Easy chicken, celery, onions, and carrots.

I picked up a premade salad (no croutons) at a pizza restaurant yesterday. Maybe I got glutened from that?

Minute Rice is made by Kraft, so they will not hide any gluten ingredients in their ingredients list. I eat Minute Rice without any problems.

I would suspect the salad; even without croutons, there is always a chance of someone cross contaminating you if someone used the same utensils on the salad that had touched croutons, bread, etc.

Hope you feel better soon!

I also ate purdue chicken last night and was okay.

Thanks for getting back to me on that. I think it was the salad. I've been really careful about what I've been eating at home, but it is hard to know how something is prepared in a restaurant.

Minute Rice, Purdue Short Cuts and a frozen vegetable make a great quick gluten-free meal! :)

Oats naturally contain a protein called avenin, which is similar to the gluten proteins found in wheat, barley, and rye. While avenin is generally considered safe for most people with celiac disease, some individuals, around 5-10% of celiacs, may also have sensitivity to avenin, leading to symptoms similar to gluten exposure. You may fall into this category, and eliminating them is the best way to figure this out. Some people substitute gluten-free quinoa flakes for oats if they want a hot cereal substitute. If you are interested in summaries of scientific publications on the topic of oats and celiac disease, we have an entire category dedicated to it which is here: https://www.celiac.com/celiac-disease/oats-and-celiac-disease-are-they-gluten-free/
