Always Blisters?

I've had celiac disease for the past year, and this past weekend, I started to spontaneously break out in welts. I wish that I had a picture, but I know that it's not insect bites or poison ivy, because they haven't started to blister. The itching is unbearable, and new welts keep popping up everywhere.

Is DH always characterized by blistering?

Could it be hives? I had hives all over my body, including my face once. I never found out what it was from though. Itches like crazy.

MY DH is not always "blisters".

Sometimes, they look more like bug bites or even "clear acne"... and even "welts at times....

MY DH did not really begin to disappear for 2-3 years after going gluten-free (well, I thought I was gluten-free, but I was pretty ignorant of cross contamination issues.)

Anyway, now it crops up every once in awhile (I think it is impossible to avoid gluten 100% of the time -- especially if you eat out). -- Having said that , Dapsone (prescription) helps out alot.

I think it is pretty normal..

I have little red bumps all over my upper arms (from the elbow up). I've had them for years, but have just recently been dx as a Celiac, although after talking to my mom, I had signs as an infant. Can DH look l ike this? What medicines work? I want this cleared up so I can wear a sleeveless wedding gown.

It sounds like DH to me. I also have had symptoms since I was a baby-my parents thought I was allergic to talc for a long time. I went to numerous doctors to no avail. It started getting worse and worse until, as a young adult, I started breaking out on my hands. Since I worked in a grocery store handling people's food, this was not acceptable. After threatening my dermatologist, he took quick action and did a biopsy (I'm still upset that it took him ten years to think of that!). He put me on Dapsone, which really helped. Cleared it right up. It wasn't until I started researching DH that I learned of celiac. My doc had never mentioned gluten intolerance or the relation to celiac at all! Just prescribed the little pill. When I asked him about it, he said that I probably didn't have celiac, since the symptoms are chronic diarrhea (which he never asked if I had). He also said the gluten-free diet was pretty much impossible, so that's why he never mentioned it. Luckily, I have since moved to a bigger city where I can choose from more than one dermatologist!

All of that to say.....Dapsone works great.

I get these things below my lower lip, between the lip and the chin or all along the bottom of the lip. They look like clear acne or little blisters that don't break. They itch but don't hurt. They appear then disappear in a few days and sometimes it takes even longer. Would these be DH?

Thanks,

Rusla

since how long has this been happening

if this is happening since a long time then you might be havng an allergy

even i have such a similar type of allergy

i advice you to go to a homeopath and let him check it out

he will definitely give a good prescription to you

I have only had DH a couple of times and both times it started on one elbow and mirrored itself on the other elbow in a few days. I am told that DH always does this, mirror images itself. Check your soaps, shampoos, lotions, perfumes--anything you may put on your body as well as in it. I break out from any of those items if I am not extremely careful. I have told this before--I use shampoo to wash my car--it does an excellent job, even on the windows. One day I used the Tresseme that I cant use on my hair because it does have wheat in it. I never thought about splashing it on my legs. In 20 minutes, I broke out in hives. So, check everything--ok. Deb

What are your daily meals? Guilty pleasure snacks? Protein bars? I feel when looking for gluten free foods they are filled with sugar cholesterol. Looking for healthy gluten-free protein bars. Something to fill since sometimes I feel like not to eat anything. Especially if on vacation and unsure of cross contamination I figure go with a salad and protein bar to fill and play it safe.

Unfortunately, there is presently no test for NCGS. Celiac disease must first be ruled out. NCGS is thought to be much more common than celiac disease. We know that celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder but the mechanism of NCGS is less clear. Both call for an elimination of gluten from the diet.

Thanks for your reply Trents…most appreciated.  I am unfamiliar with celiac labs terminology so I wanted to know if the presence of HLA variants (DA:101, DA:105, DQB1:0301 and DQB1:0501) that the labs detected had any merit in predisposing one to be more sensitive to gluten/carbs than the general population?  Also,  I found what you said about NCGS very interesting and I appreciate you mentioning that.  I’ve worked hard to research and advocate for myself with my Hematologist and now with a new GI, since my bowel surgery and to maintain my Vitamin B12 health concurrent with keeping my levels of Iron in the optimal range. I’ve been tested for SIBO (do not have it), biopsy showed negative for HPylori, and have had Fecal studies done (nothing showed up) and I understand how a loss of a large amount of bowel could be highly impacting re: SIBO, malabsorption and motility issues. So I’ve managed pretty well diet and elimination-wise until just recently. That said, this new problem with extreme bloating, distention and upper girth, NAFLD just occured over the last 4 months so it is new for me and I thought celiac might be a possible issue. I’ll probably just continue on in this less gluten/carbs seem to be better for me and see how reintroducing certain foods go.  Thanks again.

Thanks bumped it up and now take all 3 vitamins 2 capsules each with the super b complex at breakfast. I will give it some time to see if I notice a difference. I am going to track my eating daily diary on a myfitness pal app to see if the "claimed" gluten free foods bother me or not.

Please can anyone help. I was diagnosed on 23rd December and I am trying my best to get my head around all the things to look out for. I have read that yeast extract is not to be eaten by coeliacs. Why? And is this all yeast extract. Or is this information wrong. Thanks.
