Substitute For Pretzels To Help With Nausea

I'm just starting a gluten-free diet and realized I need to find a good substitute for the pretzels I use when I get hit with nausea. This usually only happens in the mornings after I take my meds that have to be on an empty stomach - I get hit with a wave of nausea and if I don't eat a few pretzels and sip some Coke or Sprite, I will throw up. :(

I think it's the blandness and saltiness of the pretzels that helps. What would a good substitute be?

Snyder's of Hanover make REALLY good gluten free pretzels that taste just like gluten ones! Even my family can't tell the difference. Glutino also makes pretzels but I haven't tried those. You could also try glutino's table crackers which are kind of like saltines or their round crackers which are kind of like ritz.

I highly recommend the Snyder's pretzels though because they're almost identical to regular pretzels.

We like Rice Chex when our stomachs are upset but need a little something. What about applesauce? Some meds you can take with it. Ask your doc or the company that makes them.

I like the Glutino pretzels very much, my family fights me for them ( )

and I also like the ones that come in little bags- Wylde? I forget, anyhoo,

the round crackers from Glutino are also very good.

Wow, thanks so much for the responses!! I didn't even realize they had gluten-free pretzels (just getting started with this)! Guess I need to keep reading. I've been reading non-stop since Sunday when this first came to my attention that it might be my problem for so long, but boy do I have a lot to learn!

Glutino and Ener-g have gluten-free pretzels that are very good. I can get them at larger regular grocery stores, and of course Whole Foods. Bananas, baked or mashed potatoes, gluten-free toast, and peppermint/plain tea are all helpful to me when my stomach is upset.

Would Walmart carry the Snyder's pretzels?

Some might. The ones around here have the gluten free stuff together and you have to look for it. I have seen the Snyders with the regular pretzels, too.

The Glutino pretzels are good. I have also found that Snyder's makes a gluten-free pretzel and they are awesome and I usually don't like pretzels at all. I just made a whole batch of the pretzel with Hershey Kiss and M n M on top for Christmas. they are yummy and best of all--gluten-free!!! Yeah!!!

Janice1014 Newbie

I think they do. Weis Markets carries them. They are great!!

I can second this... In fact I'm eating them right now :D I'm on a trip overseas and they ordered pizza for lunch. I had packed my gluten-free pretzels and some Lara Bars thankfully. My family loves the Snyders too, but I don't share LOL

I find this thread interesting...with each pregnancy - long before I was dx'd I could only keep "oatzels" down -- they don't sell them anymore to my knowledge.

Our family likes glutino pretzels very much, but have heard many times Snyder's are the best.

The glutino pretzels are good and also there are quite a few good rice crackers that are great for the belly.

Have you ever tried crystallized ginger? That almost always helps my nausea.

Please read the original post--they are looking for a gluten and milk-free treat to replace Tootsie Rolls for their child who loves Tootsie Rolls, but can no longer have them due to a dairy issue--they are not looking for M&M's.

They both do.  The peanuts add nutrients to the treat. Tootsie Roll: Sugar, Corn Syrup, Palm Oil, Condensed Skim Milk, Cocoa, Whey, Soy Lecithin, Artificial and Natural Flavors. M&M Peanut: milk chocolate (sugar, chocolate, skim milk, cocoa butter, lactose, milkfat, peanuts, soy lecithin, salt, natural flavor), peanuts, sugar, cornstarch; less than 1% of: palm oil, corn syrup, dextrin, colors (includes blue 2 lake, blue 1 lake, red 40, yellow 6 lake, yellow 5, yellow 6, blue 1, yelskim milk contains caseinlow 5 lake, blue 2, red 40 lake), carnauba wax, gum acacia. glycemic index of Tootsie Rolls ~83 gycemic index of M&M Peanuts ~33   The composition of non-fat solids of skim milk is: 52.15% lactose, 38.71% protein (31.18% casein, 7.53% whey protein), 1.08% fat, and 8.06% ash.   https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/9781118810279.ch04  Milkfat carries the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. But M&M's contain milk, and would not be at all like a Tootsie Roll.

I appreciate you validating me because medical is an issue and it's not ok at all they they do this. Some days I just want to call the news media and just call out these doctors especially when they are supposed to be specialist Downplaying when gluten-free when they should know gluten-free is false negative. Now dealing with other issues and still crickets for disability because I show no signs of celiac BECAUSE IM GLUTENFREE! Actively dealing with sibo and skin issues.Depression is the key because thats all they know, im depressed because medical has caused it because of my celiac and related issues. I should have never ever been employed as a bus driver. After 3 years still healing and ZERO income desperately trying to get better but no careteam for celiac other than stay away frim wheat! Now im having care because my head is affected either ms or meningioma in go in tomorrow again for more scans.I know im slowly dying and im looking like a disability chaser

M&M Peanuts. About the same calories and sugar while M&M Peanuts have fiber, potassium, iron and protein that Tootsie Rolls ("We are currently producing more than 50 million Tootsie Rolls each day.") don't. Click the links to compare nutritional values.  Both are made with sugar, not high fructose corn syrup.  I use them as a gluten free substitute for a peanut butter sandwich.  Try her on grass fed, pasture fed milk. While I get heartburn at night from commercial dairy milk, I do not from 'grassmilk'.
