ARCHIVED Research Paper On celiac disease
oceangirl replied to definedheart's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Defined Heart, My story will be the oldest in the celiac book, but, good for you writing a research paper on our favorite disease! My story is after 35 YEARS of an IBS diagnosis, more upper and lower GI series than I care to recount, and with a high tTg (positive bloodwork) but a negative biopsy was sent on my way to eat gluten as I wished no matter... -
Hi. You've gotten great advice. I used to make all our bread, too, but, nothing, NOTHING could make me purposely put one crumb of gluten in my mouth the pain is so bad from it. I guess if you have enough pain it's a pretty good deterrent. Right now I'm suffering from a blind glutening (this happens about every two monthe, mysteriously, and I've been gluten...

Hi Gluten 15, A few things... Yes, please post the brand name of that sockeye in a can. I eat fresh Alaskan sockeye every week but the price kills me. Tom's of Maine dental floss is gluten-free. Toothpaste, too. I'm not sure about Pantene; I used to use it all the time but I stopped and switched to Fructis as I was certain it was gluten-free. Also...

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Else Have These Symptoms
oceangirl replied to newceliac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, welcome, The pain you describe sounds very similar to some of the pain I had before being gluten-free. I could not possibly sleep on my left side at night it was so excruciating. I didn't have the pain in my hamstring (had horrible pain in my left hip though). I know OUTBACK is supposed to have a gluten-free menu but, frankly, I haven't eaten out... -
Hi. The camera thing is to check your villi in your small intestine to see if damage is visible. Although most people here have an endoscopy (I think) (they stick a tube down into your small intestine to do this- I chose to be sedated 'cause I have choking issues) This is to do a biopsy of your small intestine and is considered the "gold standard" diagnostic...

Jason, Sorry you're having a rough time. Can you elaborate on what types of alcohol cause this reaction? Some here react to all grain alcohols and, while I've been a "wine with dinner" girl from way back, I just found out many wines are aged in barrels SEALED WITH FLOUR PASTE??!!!!! Anyway, looking for some un-oaked wines now. Not to sound harsh...

Phew! I'm glad to hear that! lisa

Hi Gluten 15. Did you say you're drinking lots of "BARLEY JUICE"?!!! I don't know what this is but if it's made from barley, barley is glutenous!!! No celiac can have ANY barley, wheat or rye- or oats from the U.S. I would stop that right away if I were you. Anyway- the reaction in your throat to foods- YES! I have had similar symptoms; my sister...

ARCHIVED Interpretation Of The Blood Tset
oceangirl replied to Curious5's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Curious, Nikki gave you good advice. Lots of people feel better with little to no gluten even w/o celiac disease- my daughter is one. Take it out and see how you feel! good luck! lisa -
Hi Gluten 15 and Welcome! I have spent 2 years gluten, soy, dairy, egg, nightshade, corn- free. I am now able to tolerate cheese and some milk; I've put corn back in and I eat tomatoes and red peppers again! It may take you some time, but you may be able to expand your diet once you heal. Hang in there and good luck to you! lisa

Hello Fellow Runner, Very good advice thus far. Did your doctor order the full celiac panel? It includes 5 blood tests. Probably shouldn't get off the old gluten until you get results. The best pasta is Tinkyada brand (Whole foods, Wild Oats, some grocery stores...) . It's made with rice and is quite delicious. Many of us, however, stay away fro most...

Flourgirl, Hi. I have had low blood pressure and VERY slow heartrate( halter monitor recorded me at 33 beats per minute during one phase of slee- average is 56 BPM) and just got a work-up by cardiologist (again- had it 15 years ago) because a Naturopath I'm seeing to help me with celiac (I'm 2 years gluten-free.) got worried about my irregular heartbeat...

ARCHIVED Celiac Board- My Sincere Thank You
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you, Patti and Jenny! Patti- you moved? I thought you lived in New Jersey? I hope you are both well, too! I will definitely not be a stranger; I just wanted to say "thank you" and let you all know why I haven't been posting! Take good care! lisa -
Hello everyone, I haven't looked at the message board in months which hopefully means I've been doing mostly better but also is because of extreme busyness! I am now in grad school for my Master's while still working full-time in Special Ed and always working as an actor as well and helping my daughter look at and apply to colleges and my son to navigate...

Hi. I'm sorry you are having a tough time- it can be so incredibly frustrating! I am almost 2 years gluten-free and it has only been since last week that my tTg number FINALLY is in the normal range. (High normal, but normal) During all this time I have been gluten, soy, corn, dairy, nightshade and egg free. (Yes, I've eaten rocks...) And I STILL have...

ARCHIVED What Happens To You When You Are Glutened?
oceangirl replied to tbradley93's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My symptoms are almost exactly as Emily Elizabeth without the foot cramps. I also have alternating D and C and horrible joint pain (particularly my left hip bone). Also, big abdominal pain to go along with the horrible bloat and distention of my abdomen. Wish I could cut out my intestines! My stomach itself doesn't hurt; it's once things hit my intestines... -
ARCHIVED Purell Hand Sanitizer
oceangirl replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes! Hand-washing is best! As the daughter of a chemist and two parents who are great fans of good old-fashioned hand-washing ( and many other common sensical remedies for things) , I agree, that is what's best, and, yes, people do get a false sense of security from many things today including hand-sanitizers. (Don't get me started about cell phones..... -
ARCHIVED Purell Hand Sanitizer
oceangirl replied to Nic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Perhaps a scientist could chime in here, but, I think alcohol isn't the problem with bacteria's increasing resistance to antibiotics- anti-bacterials are. I work in a school and, while hand-washing (LONG hand-washing) is the best preventitive against contracting germs, it is not always feasible in a busy school day- in fact, it rarely is for both teachers... -
ARCHIVED Dannon Plain Yogurt- Is It Okay?
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow! Being half Greek I am fascinated with this "Fage" brand. I have never seen it- I suspect it's not an East Coast or up here in Maine thing? I'll look for it. As far as the pectin goes, it's not a gluten issue- I just don't tolerate a lot of pectin well. It occurs naturally in fruits such as apples, I believe. Thank you again, lisa -
ARCHIVED Dannon Plain Yogurt- Is It Okay?
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thank you, everyone. Hmmm.....not sure if I dare risk the old Dannon plain. Yes, it is the only one lately I can find sans pectin. I am a yogurt eater from way back in the late sixties- and have made it, too- and there never used to be pectin in it. It's not necessary like most of the extra things that are stuck in our food today! Thanks for your... -
ARCHIVED Dannon Plain Yogurt- Is It Okay?
oceangirl posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi. I think I saw something here about Dannon yogurt not being gluten-free. Does this include their plain yogurt? Is it a non-dedicated line issue? I would like to attempt yogurt after 2 years without and just want a plain one (WITHOUT pectin- when did they start putting pectin in yogurt?!!!) Any suggestions welcomed. Dannon's plain lists only milk... -

ARCHIVED Safe Dating? Any Safe Brands?

Hi Everyone, Does anyone know of a company that has dedicated lines for their either pitted or unpitted dates? Dole says wheat is used in their factory. Really need a date! Thanks! lisa -
