  1. I am one of the ridiculously super sensitives and have a predominantly gluten-free house. However, my 5 cats and 4 (yes, I said FOUR!) dogs eat IAMS which has no OBVIOUS gluten. I do have an in-house rabbit who's taken over the dining room (yes, I know I need counseling...) who eats mostly hay and greens but does have a small dish of wheat pellets daily-...
  2. Geez, wow, makes you wonder about the gene pool and Darwin's natural selection and the Darwin Awards and, yikes, are we getting dumber? and Holy Mackerel- is this HARD??!!!!! lisa
  3. Ugh. I could use a little "boost"- I've recently been mysteriously glutened three times in a row- last night after trying a new white wine at a restaurant. I shouldn't complain because this is after a year or more of feeling MOSTLY pretty damn good... Do you guys still find it is often a mystery? There is no question when it's gluten or something that behaves...
  4. As others have noted, your best bet is to buy whole foods and cook from scratch. Most of the super sensitives on here seem to eat relatively close to the Specific Carbohydrate diet- no substitute grains. I would think you could find some meats out in Montana? Buy whole cuts, chicken and any fresh fish? Butternut squash, acorn, zucchini, summer squash- all...
  5. Thank you everyone- I see a Junior Mint in my future! lisa
  6. I wish I knew, too- I love Wolf Blass... Most wines are considered "safe" although there is much controversy re: sealing oak barrels with flour paste. I'm sticking to unoaked wines just now although I LOVE oaked! I am a "super sensitive"- what bothers me may not bother you. Good luck and !Salud!, lisa
  7. After 3 years of no corn I've been enjoying fresh corn on the cob- yum! I just have to be careful not to have too much as I'll get more of an IBSish reaction- it's probably pretty rough. Glad to hear of the soy lecithin thing; I've been wanting to try a junior mint since Patti told me they were okay but I'm afraid of the soy... take care, lisa
  8. Patti, That does sound like a bit much but I think I would trade right now- we're heavily into monsoon season as is so normal for July in Maine... (???????!) And it's COLD! I've had the heat on earlier in July- that's just pathetic! Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread into the weather channel- hope everyone else is having a lovely summer! lisa
  9. Here's how I explain it now: "Forget it, you don't really want to know..." ( sorry, I get tired of people not "getting it".) HOWEVER, it sometimes helps to explain that gluten causes an AUTOIMMUNE REACTION and that is why any amount is bad. Your body sees the tiny amount and sends in the troops (antibodies) to attack itself- SOME people seem to get...
  10. Lancome's Le Rouge Absolu line- pricey but worth it. lisa
  11. Deb, That stinks- I hope you see more progress soon. I have to be thankful for all the time I feel really well, but it is a bit of a drag to fear food and think of it as "the enemy". I have my moments of wishing I could digest food like those all around me. Sigh... oh well..... and then making people understand why you are so paranoid without them thinking...
  12. Jana, I still don't eat legumes- especially soy. I think they were hard for me to digest always which is too bad 'cause I really like legumes. In fact, it's kind of unfair this whole food thing because I am the LEAST fussy eater in my house! I still have some trouble with white potatoes, too... lisa
  13. Holy crap! I meant to say "hello" everyone! Sorry! lisa
  14. Hell everyone, Glad to see the Old Super Sensitives back in action. I, like Patti, have the experience of "getting brave" and putting a little "swagger" into my eating (that would be like actually taking a bite of something made at someone else's house like my sister's who is very "gluten-savvy" but, alas... there's still lots o' gluten in her environment...
  15. Puddy, Man, that must be absolutely miserable and frustrating. Patti, I'm SO sorry! I hope you feel better soon- this CAN still be frustrating, that is FOR SURE! Get well! lisa
  16. Thanks, Patti- sometimes I wonder if I'm nuts! I'm glutened right now from some strange cc place I once again can't pinpoint and it feels like it's never going to stop! It must be very nice not to have this response to even miniscule amounts of gluten! Take care, lisa
  17. When glutened I have left side pain; I describe it as a "stitch" and its severity depends on how bad the glutening is. Before diagnosis this was one of the most intense of 26 lovely symptoms and I would describe it as abject pain. I think it may have something to do with the descending colon being on your left side and, as you may find if you research this...
  18. I am BLOWN AWAY that anyone with gluten issues can or would "cheat"- they CLEARLY do NOT react the way I do because I am AFRAID of gluten, that is how sick it makes me and how much pain is involved- and I have lived through considerable pain before; kidney stones, scoliosis, giving natural birth to a 10 pound son with a head circumference of 12 inches and...
  19. Just a thought: it DOES sometimes seem that many have a "miraculous" response to the gluten-free diet, but, reading here, you may see it's not that common for it to be a long, twisting road to recovery. Be patient and trust your instincts. And if it feels like gluten and acts like gluten, there's probably gluten somewhere you're ingesting. Other intolerances...
  20. Only for 35 years... Yip, that's how long it took- 5 full GI series over the course of about 15 years (upper AND lower- FUN!), diagnoses of colitis and IBS- wow, what does that mean? Until things ratcheted up at the age of 47 and I got REALLY sick after a bout of salmonella and NEVER got well. 26 nefarious symptoms and enough pain and weight loss ( I've...
  21. Welcome. I am unfamiliar with the scale used for your tTg, but it sure seems obviously positive and this is a very reliable test for gluten intolerance. Others will post. If you are going to have a biopsy you need to continue to eat gluten for accurate results. If you are not and are going gluten free you need to keep reading here as this forum will provide...
  22. Hi. Is Advil ibuprofin? Anyway, it's gluten-free and I am highly sensitive and have used it on many occasions and all is well... if there were gluten I would SURELY know..... lisa
  23. Bev, Thank you so much! I WILL try it when I get brave again; I'm one of those unbelievably super-sensitive celiacs and it's no fun- sometimes I'd just rather not eat at all. You are from my Greek grandmother and grandfather's home after Greece- I love Manchester. lisa
  24. Wow! Have any of you guys tried Aneillo's gluten-free cafe? I've been wanting to but still gun-shy.. Right now I've been mysteriously glutened, so it won't be in the near future but I'm SO glad it's there! What ice creams do you eat? (Hope I'm not hijacking the thread-don't mean to...) lisa
  25. Yup! I despise bread baskets being waved around (I have celiac and am ridiculously sensitive). It's SOOOOO difficult to get people to understand this. If only we could do as in the movie "Cocoon" and swiftly "be" someone else for a minute to feel all they feel emotionally and physically- maybe then people would get it. I tell people now that I am AFRAID of...
