  1. Yup! My older parents can't grasp the extenuating circumstances, either. Frustrating- I don't even try anymore. It's hard to imagine walking in someone else's moccasins, I guess... lisa
  2. Thanks, Ravenwoodglass! Yes, I know, it can be so hard to figure out. Over the years I've learned to take the saying "If you hear hoofbeats, think horses" seriously when it comes to gluten because my reactions are so specific. I easily distinguish them from an IBSish reaction. That said, I now include the notion of "if it isn't gluten,it's something that...
  3. Eileen, I could not tolerate any grains for 2 years including rice. I still cannot eat plain rice, however, can eat Tinkyada pasta- go figure. I don't do any substitutions other than the Tinky and that seems fine- but not every day! Tra la la..... Be well, lisa
  4. Thank you, Lisa and Ravenwoodglass, Yes, I am having an ongoing issue now for about 3 weeks after feeling so well for so long! I haven't had any trouble with Planter's and I've been eating them daily for over a year. It's probably something else, but, if I get a minute, I'll call them and report back. Take care, lisa
  5. Here's an annoying question: does one who is very sensitive need to worry about the seal on my can of Planter's nuts? It sure looks like a glue and I wonder if it has gluten? Lately, when I open their cans I can see the sealant and it's kind of flaky. Any thoughts are appreciated. thank you, lisa
  6. I avoided all grains for 2 years while healing and now am able to eat pure rice flour. I do no other substituting as I feel better without grains. Corn and soy were particularly problematic and I still have no soy of any kind. I can handle a little fresh corn. Good luck and feel well, lisa
  7. Yes, check the pet food. I have many animals and recently introduced a new puppy who is spreading his food all over the house and kissing everyone and I've been suffering from some mysterious glutenings. The dog food I use presently is gluten-lite, I think. But I think I might be getting it from somewhere in the dog food... (I, too, have cats all over...
  8. The sweet potato, while good for you, could be too rough for you still. They have lots of fiber. I still cannot eat rice- I get bad bloat and indigestion-however, I CAN eat Tinkyada (rice) pasta. Weird, I know, but I think the Tinky might be processed enough to ease its digestion. In the beginning I had the best luck with plain meat or fish, bananas...
  9. I think you'll find a wide variety of responses to this. I think I used to respond more immediately, however, 4 years in, if I get gluten now, I suspect it's a miniscule amount from cc. I could react right away or take anywhere from hours to days. Makes it sometimes tricky to find the culprit even when I've kept a DETAILED food/symptom log for almost 3 years...
  10. I hope you feel better soon. It took 2 YEARS for my numbers to get down within "normal". And, yes, you may have other intolerances, especially this early in the game. There is a learning curve and no magic pill... Good luck, keep reading here... lisa
  11. You need to continue to eat gluten until you have a FULL celiac blood panel at the very least. Did this doctor order this for you? It is a combination of 5 tests and will show if your body is reacting to gluten with antibodies. If the doctor has not, DEMAND that it be done. However, you need to be consuming gluten for it to be accurate. Depending on the results...
  12. I'm not sure about the pain to the touch so I do think it's a good idea for you to follow up. However, it would be no surprise to hear gluten can cause that, too. You absolutely need a new doctor. take care, lisa
  13. Yes, you may want to get another opinion about what is going on. However! Are they KIDDING?????!!!!! No abdominal pain with celiac? They do not know what they are talking about. The pain for me was off the charts! And, I had given natural birth to a 10 pound baby (and another) and had kidney stones prior to that. I have experience with pain. Get...
  14. Thank you for that advice, Theresa- "Flourgirl/Flowergirl"! I think I instinctively knew that, but, here in the dead of winter I think I just wanted to gaze longingly at summer! Take care, lisa
  15. Thank you! lisa
  16. Oh, and I know I'm a girl, but I've sobbed myself to sleep over the pain many a night- seems like a pretty appropriate response to me! lisa
  17. GlutenGuy, I am sorry you are still not feeling well. You've probably heard the song and dance about a million times about checking all products for hidden gluten? I had HORRIBLE bone and abdominal pain before going gluten free 4 years ago and still can get that if I get accidentally you-know-whatted. It sounds like you have had a pretty thorough medical...
  18. Ravenwoodglass, May I ask what seed catalogs you use? I typically wait and buy my perennials in pots in the spring so I don't have any experience with catalogs. But I'd love to drool over one. In Maine we can't plant 'til Memorial Day. lisa
  19. Wow, I thought Lundbergh was a dedicated company- yikes, that's a bummer. Sorry you are not feeling well. I might lay off the cabbage if my intestines hurt. Just in a roughage kind of way... Whenever I'm feeling glutened I return to ONLY known foods. Then, I add ONE new thing in over a LONG period of time (weeks) to check my reactions. I don't think...
  20. Happygirl, Thank you! lisa
  21. My favorite flower is any one not spelled "F-L-O-U-R". Okay, sunflowers... lisa

    ARCHIVED Caveman?

Hi! I eat pretty Paleo as well and whenever I have symptoms again I revert to it religiously. My diet primarily consists of: Fish, meat, chicken, nuts, greek yogurt, cheddar cheese, (not so Paleo) veggies and fruits and I can eat raw sugar in tea; it doesn't seem to bother me. I eat sweet potato quite often and white potato very rarely. I can tolerate...
  23. CeliacMom, Do you have a dedicated gluten free condensed milk you use? I am HIGHLY sensitive to gluten. I've been CRAVING a caramel for SO long! Thank you! lisa
  24. Thank you- I'm going to make some this weekend! Jestgar and Fiddle -Faddle, That's a very good idea for begging critters; I like that and will give it a try. Besides the new puppy, (Bruce-black lab), I have 2 other dogs, 6 cats (one three-legged one) and a bodacious rabbit that lives with us in the house. Perhaps gluten made me lose my mind.......
  25. Honey is high in fructose. Many people cannot digest this sugar well. Could be the issue as well. lisa
