ARCHIVED Way To Cure Celiac?
oceangirl replied to Becci's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have a cure but if I say it I might be booted from this forum... tra la la....it has to do with getting your affairs in order. Anyway, kidding, but- Where is the science from this potential charlatan?!!! Does he/she have any? I guess there's no harm in eliminating other things, obviously, but I suspect the legumes might be an issue, too, at least for... -
ARCHIVED Understanding Lab Test Values
oceangirl replied to GlutenGuy36's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm not gifted at this so hopefully others will post, but in the ranges given for my anti-tissue transglutiminase test, 19 and under was in the normal range, 20 and over would be in a the positive range. lisa -
ARCHIVED Cross-contact
oceangirl replied to daviddius's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
No, I trust nothing that says "gluten free" unless it's a known dedicated company, but then, I'm one of those ridiculously super-sensitives. I also don't use many of those "substitute" foods- I cook most everything from whole foods myself. Sticking with whole foods and keeping a detailed food log is very helpful especially for the first year or so. My food... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cosmetics And Toiletries
oceangirl replied to Lisa79's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Not sure about Australia but Lancome's line Le Rouge Absolu is gluten free. Also, Ecco Bella and I BELIEVE a company called Bare Essentials. Others will post. good luck, lisa -
ForbloodyEVER! Okay- about 2 weeks... I also can experience the delay which does make pinpointing the culprit worthy of Sherlock Holmes... lisa

Yes, terrible nightmares when glutened-somehow gluten itself makes its way into the dreams in some nefarious way, too. I have nightmares sometimes without gluten but I ALWAYS have them if glutened. It's interesting to hear others have similar experiences. Sleep tight, lisa

ARCHIVED Low White Blood Count?
oceangirl replied to CMG's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, I had a low white cell count all my life. 35 years later I was diagnosed and 4 years after going gluten free my white count is in the normal range. I believe others on this board have had similar stories. lisa -
ARCHIVED High Fructose Corn Syrup
oceangirl replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Actually fructose is different from sucrose and many people have difficulty digesting fructose. (well-documented) Of course, all carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars in digestion. There is no need for the amplification of sugar value that "high fructose corn syrup" creates. There is a reason it is ubiquitous in marketing. Look into it; it... -
ARCHIVED Iga Anti-t.tg Levels Still High
oceangirl replied to Lisa79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
LDJ, Yes, it is a long road, I must say. But during those initial 2 years and even now I remind myself that I am insanely sensitive to gluten and accidental involvement with it seems difficult to completely avoid. But I feel the best I have in years (except from some annoying menopausal symptoms which I'm trying my best to ignore...) and when I do feel... -
Joyce, I have been gluten free for going on 5 years but, prior to diagnosis, I was in so much agony at night I was certain I had something quite bad. If I ingest even the most negligible amount of gluten I will get that hideous bloat and trapped gas and PAIN! It feels like someone filled my whole insides with cement and, sadly, no, nothing seems to help...

ARCHIVED Positive Blood, Possibly Negative Biopsy
oceangirl replied to Lisa79's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had positive antibodies and a negative biopsy (however, I had been glutenfree/lite for 4 months prior to biopsy) There is NO Question that gluten causes damage to me and genetic testing furthered that proof for me. I think they will understand in the future that there is a spectrum of disease caused by gluten. By the way, the Mayo clinic just completed... -
When glutened the nights are THE WORST! BIG left side pain, bloating to the point I feel I can't breathe and NO relief until sometime in the morrow when, if lucky, I'll start to have a bowel movement. (sorry to be graphic but, there it is...) My left hip is usually in agony as well and I am not talking about discomfort, I mean PAIN! This can persist for days...

ARCHIVED Coffee Processed Without Gluten
oceangirl replied to BuffyWWJD's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have been enjoying a few cups of java a week again for about 2 years and all is well. If there were gluten in it, because of my insane sensitivity, I'm sure I'd have known by now! Yum! lisa -
ARCHIVED High Fructose Corn Syrup
oceangirl replied to no-more-muffins's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
YES! It's ghastly! Read "The Omnivore's Dilemma" Michael Pollan- every American should read it if you want to know what you're eating and what we've done with "modern" agriculture. I eat local whenever possible... lisa -
ARCHIVED Iga Anti-t.tg Levels Still High
oceangirl replied to Lisa79's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi. It took two FULL years for my antibody levels to get in the normal range- AND, during that time, I ate ONLY whole foods I cooked myself from scratch. Because I am ridiculously sensitive (something I would never have believed until living through it) my family ultimately went gluten-free (two teenagers and my spousal equivalent) AND the 4 dogs, 5 cats... -
ARCHIVED Yogurts And Milk
oceangirl replied to Heidismom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi! I'm on the east coast so won't be any help. There is another Greek yogurt called "Cholbani"/(??) I think that's okay. Good luck! lisa -
ARCHIVED Yikes! How Did My Personal Phone # And Address Get Onto My Personal Profile?
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Tiffany, I've never filled in those spaces but in order to first post (or something- kind of fuzzy here as Michael is the computer whiz in this house and I didn't do this...) I had to log that info somewhere- that's why it was so surprising. Thank you everyone for the clarity! lisa -

ARCHIVED Yikes! How Did My Personal Phone # And Address Get Onto My Personal Profile?
oceangirl posted a topic in Board/Forum Technical Help

ARCHIVED Roasted Nuts/sunflower Seeds O.k.?
oceangirl replied to David's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ahorsesoul, Yes! It's unbelievable, isn't it? I really thought I was nuts with this but there is NO question in mind that the guilty culprit was the burger- I only introduce one new thing at a time. I was miserable for a week with that one. Steak and chicken and roasts are fine. Take care, lisa -
ARCHIVED Question To Specific People?
oceangirl replied to oceangirl's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Thanks, Patti- I just tried sending you a message to see if I got it right. (I know, pretty pathetic, huh?) lisa -
ARCHIVED Supposedly Gluten-free Spices
oceangirl replied to kdonov2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It took me a couple of months to figure out that I was reacting to McCormick's GROUND spices. I've eliminated them and eat only freshly bought and dried spices. (Dried by me I mean.) It was a bummer. I don't THINK I reacted to McCormick's plain dried spices (not ground) but I've eliminated them altogether anyway- it's not worth it to me. I am one of those...
