  1. Sorry, "...when THAT might not be true." is what I meant to write- yikes, I'm losin' it- what I had, anyway... lisa
  2. Patti, Your "cyber hug" was EXACTLY what I needed- thank you! More information does seem to be better than less, yes. (Although I can think of some times when they may not be true...) Hugs back, lisa
  3. Patti, Thank you! Your thoughtful response means a lot to me on this particular day. Hope you are feeling well, lisa
  4. Clearly if one is not having a problem, one should not sweat the details. Everyone is different and it is wonderful if you have had not issues with cc with some companies. That has not been the case for me. My reaction to gluten is dramatic, specific, horrendous and absolutely unique so when cc is a problem, I know. That said, I also eat almost no grains...
  5. Since you are new to all this I thought I'd offer my take. Gemini is correct that many people seem able to well tolerate just "switching over" to substitute grains to replace the beloved gluten. Unfortunately, there are many of us for whom that just didn't work. First, there is an issue with cross contact in non-dedicated companies for those of us who sadly...
  6. Lavendeldame, Hi! Wow, here's a blast from the past! Thank you for your information posted today. That is tres interesting. I wonder if the gliadin molecule actually gets near the growing mushroom. These are the kind of scientific questions that make me wish I had a head for organic chemistry! From what I currently understand, it is deep inside the wheat...
  7. Thank you all for this thread. I have been trying to get help for my son who has complained of intense joint pain for 2 years. (He's 16 and a big guy-6"2" and 225lbs) He is a lobsterman and spends a lot of time on the water in the summer, fall and spring. He's been repeatedly tested for Lyme, rheumatoid (in the family) and other things. We've seen 2 orthopedic...
  8. That is grim! It's horrible to feel symptomatic when something claims it is gluten free. Have you thought about possible other triggers for reactions? I will report that I am a SUPER DUPER sensitive and I've used Lancome's Le Rouge Absolu line of lipsticks for 3 years and NEVER had an issue. It's pricey, but it is worth it. It also tends to last well...
  9. My experience was that I caught many colds and bugs prior to gluten free and that now, over 4 years in, I have been fortunate not to have any viral thing for a year and a half. I work in a high school and someone is always sick; that said, that may have helped build immunity. as well over the past 8 years. I do think getting rid of the damaging gluten has...
  10. Yes, for the most part it stopped once the evil gluten was omitted. I understand the angst over it! lisa
  11. Bea, I am super sensitive to gluten and do better with less grains. The only grain I eat is Tinkyada pasta- I can't eat cooked rice, though- weird, I know. And I eat it sparingly. I was somewhat "scd" for about a year or more- I do think it can be helpful. But I have been able to tolerate nuts and raw sugar. My mom used to make all our yogurt growing up...
  12. I am a super sensitive. After a year of me continuing to get sick (make all our own food from whole foods mostly) my two teenagers and Michael told me they'd go gluten free in the house. This was 4 years ago or so and it made a HUGE difference. There is NO obvious gluten in our house. If I entertain and friends and family bring potluck, we're all EXTREMELY...
  13. Well, I'm a bit boring because it's taken a long time to figure out what other things I react to. (was gluten, soy, corn, dairy, nightshade, egg and legume free for over 2 years. Now I can eat whole corn and dairy.) I am a SUPER sensitive! Here it is: Greek yogurt (Fage) brown raw sugar milk (no additives) coffee (on occasion-Maxwell House) bananas...
  14. Tinkyada rules- even for a "super sensitive". Tell everyone. lisa
  15. 2 YEARS! for my tTG to get into normal range. That is with never eating out and making ALL my meals from whole foods. From scratch. AND with a home that went "gluten free" with two teenagers, a spousal equivalent, 3 dogs, 5 cats and a house rabbit. (God, I must be talking about someone else from a bad novel...) That said, I was still discovering sneaky...
  16. It took 2 years for my bloodwork to get into normal range and I cooked everything myself from whole foods and never ate out. So, I think it can take some time. That said, I was still filtering out sneaky areas of gluten contamination. Still am...sigh. lisa
  17. I love wine. Isn't it the food of the gods? Along with garlic? And fresh basil? Let's see, how can we change this? "a loaf of bread"... NO! "a rice patty???, a jug of wine and thou?????!" !Salud! lisa
  18. I am a super sensitive and never eat out, although I have on 2 occasions in the last year at a restaurant my daughter works at and where she watched them prepare my food. I always end up sick and there are just too many variables. So, it will depend on your discovery of how sensitive you are. If you can eat things made on shared lines I would think you'd...
  19. I love Larabars. But then, I've never been a Burger King, McDonalds, donut, All American junk food junkie. I grew up in the sixties and seventies with an "organic French mom", raised on a farm. Processed food was never on the menu although plenty of gluten was. And, as a super sensitive, I don't even attempt to do 'replacement foods". Whole foods for me...
  20. Thanks, Patti and rbeccatexas! lisa
  21. Hi everyone, Planter's nuts (not roasted) are still okay? Yes? I eat the South Beach Diet mix... Thank you! lisa
  22. Where does one find "Afterglow'? I just re-researched a bunch of Lancome products 'cause I needed/(wanted) some new lipstick and Le Rouge Absolu, Color Design and L'Absolu Rouge are still gluten free. lisa
  23. How about a skull and crossbones? Or the international symbol for radioactivity? Or a picture of a black hole? Sorry, I'm just trying to make you laugh because I don't believe there is a good way to help anyone understand something they either are incapable of understanding or they have their heels dug in against, and, weirdly, this affliction falls into...
